In 1968 I had just returned from Korea and had the opportunity to see the group in Baltimore and the Baltimore Civic Center. Will always remember them for the tune "I am your Man". Still play them today and they still sound good.

The surprise for me was Tommy Chong. I never knew he was apart of The Vancouvers. I thought he was just a comedian. I thought I knew a lot about the artists of classic r&b until I watch the mini bios about an artist that Chance B highlights. I love this channel.

I love how you research each of the members of The Vancouvers as well as giving Bobby Taylor his props. It was very inspiring to know that he lived a very fruitful life as an artist and mentor. Yes, the Jacksons 5 never forgot him.

I happen to have the 45 record and picture sleeve Does your mama know about me and had no idea Chong was part of that group. And his name is right there on the record as a co writer. Bobby Taylor was a great talent and somehow never reached the stardom he could have reached. Great show and information, thank you.

I met Weldon McDougall as a teenager, he being a childhood friend of my father. I never knew how but he talked about knowing the Jackson 5. I never imagined how important he was to the Jackson 5 legacy.

Thanks for your efforts and the history lesson. In DC, in the 60's I could never get enough airplay of Malinda. Good to learn the history of the song. And, sSo it really wasn't Diana that "discovered" the Jackson 5. Poor Ed Sullivan. Good to know. Great job.

GREAT SHOW! First I thought Tommy Chong was a stage name because dude sho don't look Chinese to me! The baseline on those songs with the organ was killing it! AGAIN, it's a shame Bobby didn't get his due! The irony of him producing the LP "Diana Ross Presents" when his name should have been on there, is just rotten to the core! Interesting though that he tried out to be a Temptation! I guess he didn't know you had to be over 6 feet to join that group! A story on The Fantastic Four & The Detroit Emeralds would be nice.

Truly "Motowns" Godfather of many Legends to grace the walls of "Hitsville" Mr. Bobby Taylor! We now know the real genius of introduction behind "The Jackson Five" to Motown. For all Eternity God Bless this Master of the Art of Music. He sure had an Ear for Appreciation of talent to come. I truly hope a movie is made in honor of his work before, during and after the Motown years! And surprising to discover that "Tommy Chong" of Cheech & Chong! Was involved in Motown, sung and produced. Thank you for this documentary. A very enlightening piece that puts a lot into perspective.

Detroit was a beautiful city back then.Along with the TOTAL SHOCK&AWE of the 1967 Detroit riots , nature "rioted" ! Massive ELMS lined all of the Detroit streets. Shortly after Detroit riots , the so---called "DUTCH ELM DISEASE"took everyone by surprise ; another "GUT PUNCH" Looking in the background of the 1st riot picture on 12th Street, you can view those beautiful , towering trees. They gave the city's residents so much character , shade, beauty, style, and GRACE ! Most of those beautiful trees on all Detroit streets , including the suburbs . . . . we're whacked !!!

You are telling the musical history of my young `life ..... your video's are treasures and learning the back stories to the music and stars of my 10 year old self. Me and Micheal Jackson were the same age and I remember all of this music... These video's should be in the archives of the national black museum. Terrific job.

Nice story on Bobby Taylor & The Vancouvers!! But here is my question? On such great songs as Malinda are the Funk Brothers playing or Tommy Chong and his band? And I am sure they are not hitting those sweet harmonies backing up Bobby Taylor!! Also Bobby had flat feet to not be in the Temps? Then how could he be a Boxer as an alternate on The 1960's olympic team?

I have a question and concern. Why, when talking about the Jackson 5, and how they were shopping for labels, you didn't mention, how they went to curtis mayfield first. They wanted him to produce them and they wanted to be on his label. But, curtis mayfield turned the jackson 5 down. Because, curtis was already producing a family of teenage singers already at that time, called the 5 stairsteps?????? And then and only then, the jackson 5 went on to record with berry Gordy. Why didn't you mention that? It's a fact. People should know that. Curtis Mayfield was producing gene chandler, major lance, and soooooooo many many many many other artists other than the impressions.

I played bass with Bobby and Cal Green in Houston Tex at the Cindella club and we went on the air at an old theater and I remember having one of Jackie Wilson’s bodyguards coming up to the bandstand and telling us Mr Wilson didn’t want us to play any of his songs so we didn’t

Barry Gordy really didn't push a lot of his artist except for a few some of them did backup Bobby Taylor what's a songwriting some of the guys in the group play instruments everybody at Motown records sang or played on each other's records Stevie Wonder he wrote Tears of a Clown he and his mother wrote until you come back to me that's all I'm going to do he recorded that first but it didn't make any noise give it to Aretha Franklin and the rest is history he was taking to court for that particular song because someone else helped him and his mother produce that song and he didn't give the person any royalties he was sued the person was awarded money that happened in the early '70s that's why you have to be careful these days when you produce or write a hit record stay on top of your royalties recording artist today don't understand the music business it's a business first Entertainment second read the contract if you don't understand what you're reading get someone to explain it to you that is how some artist s get screwed they don't understand what they are reading it took Stevie Wonder Years to make his first million because he was so young a trust was set up for him he was the first Young artist at Motown then came the Jacksons
