Because in today's day and age, 60 is way younger than it used to be 30 and 40 years ago. Also, some people eat right and stay in shape and take really good care of themselves. Yeah, anyone that doesn't know who he is would probably think he's 43...maybe younger.

That 35 flew by. I’ve followed Richard now and forever (pun) … I love the guy so much, his songwriting inspired me to write, write WRITE. My song on my KZfaq, Map It Out wouldn’t and couldn’t have been written without listening to Richard and how he writes. Love Bobby too, this was such a great chat! Loved it.

I can't believe how grounded Richard Marx is. Definitely one of my favourites. First memory was "Should've known Better" and still listen this & Endless Summer Nights, Don't mean nothing, Angelina - I actually prefer these to Right Here Waiting. His music was such an important link from the Eagles and a few other bands from the 80's to the new era of the 90's it was uncanny how I immediately detected Eagles sound first time I heard his songs and then bought the album & confirmed it!. He seems so incredibly under rated when you consider the phenomenal success he had. Absolutely loved "Hazard" too -When you combine beautiful lyrics to beautifully composed sound tracks it will always find a home. Richard sounds like he's produced so much great material that it's almost taken for granted. Many writers and performers would kill to have that problem. He mentioned a very important word that you find in true greats and something I always respect - Authentic!

So glad I stumbled on this! I was a big enough fan to get his Greatest Hits CD which is an excellent compilation and I listen to it fairly regularly! Knew about a couple co-written songs with Daughtry and Lifehouse which they recorded and I loved, but didn’t know about Keith Urban, one of the few country artists I’ve purchased music from. Also loved discovering said songs Richard recorded in 2012 on Spotify! (Had Enough and On the Inside) always considered him Super talented and realize now he’s an even more prolific songwriter than I realized!

In the mid 90s I had a job camping outside the doors of record shops to buy top shelf concert tickets for rich people. Sometimes a face from my world would join me in my car or on the pavement - wherever I happened to wind up. In late '95 it was a short-lived girlfriend, Marya. Invariably, passersby would want to know what the hell I was doing just sitting there, and usually I'd just lay it out. With the addition of Marya, however, it took a bit of a spicier turn. After we'd been asked a few times, I believe it was Marya who came up with the idea of telling any future inquirers we were camping for Richard Marx tickets. We even came up with a tour name: The Marx on the Wall Tour. I remember it to this day. We laughed like kids. After. To each other. God. Time flies, people.

Back in 1988 maybe 89, Richard Marx was touring, Wilson Phillips, and the company I worked, for I got some backstage passes for a show in Philadelphia at the Mann music center. While backstage and enjoying crudites, trays, sparkling waters, etc. it was announced to us that “Mr. Marks” will be coming in shortly. Please don’t speak to him don’t ask for any autographs. Everyone will be getting an autographed CD in a little swag bag. Richard then proceeded to stand in line and give the most cold fish softest handshake I’ve ever had in my life. But that’s OK because right after the handshake, I could hear Wilson Phillips harmonizing out in the hallway and I got to peek out about 3 feet away from China Phillips in her thigh high leather boots, and got a little smile. She was gorgeous ! I stayed for Wilson Phillips and left shorty after Marx took the stage.

Thank you for this. Amazing interview. Great questions! Used to play some of Mr. Marx music in piano bars (as well as Billy Joel and Elton John) and people loved them. Also worked as Head of Security for concert promoters and Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers were two of my favorite artists to work with and very sincerely kind and generous people. At shows, we would get mountains of demo tapes from artists and writers that they just didn't have the time or inclination to listen to. Wonderful knowing he came from a talented jazz musical family, as was mine (musicians for Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Dave Bartholomew, Billy Holiday and others). My grandfather played on the first RnR record to sell over a million copies. My uncle, played with Louis Armstrongs All-Stars for 8 years. Ironically, they moved on to solo careers BECAUSE they had gotten tired of playing the standards every night and wanted to venture out on their own. And it was why I stopped playing piano bars... probably because we didn't write those songs and nourish them from beginning. Lol, some of them I'm just discovering that he wrote. But it would be a dick move to not play what people wanted to hear. It takes such talent to do what he does and I'm sure he also understands how differently writing songs can be inspired by guitar vs. by piano. Picked up guitar about 5 years ago and love it I'm 64! Composing comes easier than writing lyrics, so much respect to him for having the full package! Truly a gift.
