There really isn't anything like the Ranger Raptor, the suspension system is second to none as are the tyres. You really have to drive one but there are some things you need to know, you should watch the film to find out.

Towing capacity is 2.5 tonnes down from 3.5t on the normal ranger because coil springs are used in the rear, not under 1000kg like you said in the video

Correct. Certainly in the UK. But it can't carry a ton even when not towing, which is what rules it out as being a commercial vehicle or 'dual purpose commercial vehicle' In the UK, and possibly in other EU countries, it is also too heavy as a dual purpose vehicle to have the same speed limits as cars. The Ranger is restricted to 50mph in the UK on most roads and 60 on dual carriageways, which is 10mph less than lighter built pickups.

If your porpose is for hauling and other construction jobs you need to buy a pick up with leaf springs. This Raptor is for off roading, sports and more on personal use.

Been driving a Ranger Raptor now for a week - for work. Its a fantastic, absolutely brilliant vehicle! Stunning ride quality, well equipped / comfortable, and it looks handsomely beautiful... And its let down by a stupid, little diesel engine!!! Heard the Aussies is getting a 5.0L V8 - the engine it should have had in the 1st place - lucky bastards! Regards from South Africa.

@@johankriek1306 It's all relative. If you are going from a V8 to anything sure, that anything will feel underpowered. But on its own merits? That is different. And yes, I feel the same way about Ireland. Which is why I don't live there.

Congrats with a very cool truck!🤙😎 Whats the performance like, it has great hp/torque figures!, but it is a very heavy truck though.. compared to.... lets say a Dmax, which comes in around 500 kg lighter! Have a 2017 Dmax Arctic Truck AT35 myself, with a tuning box from Tdi Tuning UK, 215hp/440nm, it goes really well. Cheers.

With even being a 2.0 litre is it still powerful? I drive a 2.8 hilux but this car is so appealing I don’t want to make the mistake of down grading.

@@aurb2582 i understand what you mean but in the lock down months i drove around very much. Mostly on country roads and i can tell you, driven in Sports Mode this truck is for me a very powerful one. In Regular Mode it is good but and relaxed do drive, Sports Mode is the maximum i would want and need to have. So, there is a chance that you would not feel to gotten downgraded. More likely the opposite.

Car is great. And after opening the trunk lid, just jank the leash to the right and your roll cover is unlocked so no keys needed. There are some other things which I have as personal issues or missing. Of which I want to make a video. Tow capacity is 2500kg. 900 as you mention is when you have a B license only. Which limits total allowed weight of car and trailer to 3500kg.

Morocco is as far away from Europe as you can get while still feeling safe and close. The people are lovely although in the area we were in we had a security team following along.

We have Raptor, we use it for some offroad drive and we also have some movies. That car is just great, fast with increadible 4x4 capabilities! I agree there is no car comparable in Europe (exept small scale sale of RAMs or F150s).

I like your reviews, Bob, but you really need to sort out a couple of mistakes, re: max. load weight (620 kg) and max. towing weight (2.5 T), and the possibility of opening the load bed cover without a key. I'm surprised Ford haven't been knocking on your door ;)

Good review other than lack of keys 🙄. If I hadn't watched a lot of your reviews I'd've thought you were being paid by Ford due to your enthusiasm however, I'm trusting you genuinely liked the vehicle. Nice looking truck, too big for my needs, seems quite a lot of money for the blue oval.

One the things I hate about new car launches is they always show the top the range models with every option on them,then you go see one and it's a major let down to see what is standard on mid spec cars

Same as in the UK. It is a minority interest toy. Especially since you can get the Wildtrak, which is very well equipped and comfortable, which will legally carry a ton or tow 3.5 tons at substantially less money after claiming the VAT back. In Ireland it may not have quite that disadvantage because I know that many businesses choose not to be VAT registered, so they would not be eligible to reclaim it even if they wanted to. The price between the Wildtrak and Raptor narrows quite a lot for those potential customers.

The all terrain tyres offer loads of grip in mud, but on wet tarmac, they can loose traction when accelerating and turning at the same time, like when pulling out of a junction. Its very controllable though and you can easilu select 4wd (whilst on the move) if its a problem.

Did you mention that they are guzzlers with fuel, complete guzzlers, €80 to go from mallow to Dublin. You mentioned 8l/ 100km is 22.5 mpg, real mpg websites give 17 mpg U.K. miles that’s from owners.

I love this car...however the leaking mountaintop is a bit of a bummer. I thought you could use it as a regular trunk (suitcases etc.).

Like Bob says, they all leak. Besides which you couldn't carry a tote bag or a couple [up to four in the leaf sprung versions] 200 litre barrels or one 1000litre IBC in an enclosed back. This is what a pickup is for after all, along with towing a plant [machinery], boat or livestock trailer weighing up to 3.5 tons behind.

Trucks like this are better off with a canopy on them. R-raptors aren't really work trucks imo, they're "lifestyle" trucks for whatever you're wanting to do. Throw a canopy on and the dogs in the back and go wherever you want to.

Am open to corrections ,a crew cab in Ireland with a load bed over 1 metro long is taxed at commercial rate.Doesn't say much Ford if Raptor can't make the grade.

Mate. I have had the raptor for a year in Aus. It's Tow capacity is 2.5 tones, people here pull large boats with them. It's carrying capacity is 758KG which includes passengers. It is rear wheel drive in 2H, 4 wheel drive in 4H and 4 wheel drive in 4 low. They come with a tow bar in Aus. Otherwise good review

Ford have done such a good job of the standard new Ranger suspension, even though those have leaf springs at the back, that they all ride and handle better than some SUV's and have less road noise from the tyres as well. Same power and gearbox as the Raptor available. The non-Raptor are also rated to carry over 1000Kgs and tow 3.5 tons, so they are, in the UK at least, officially dual purpose commercial vehicles. The advantage being that the VAT is reclaimable by eligible business customers and it has also massive ordinary tax advantages. The result is that after discounts and claiming the VAT back, a business can buy two Ranger Wildtrak with all the options and have significant change compared to buying a similarly equipped new Defender First Edition 110. The Raptor, I'm afraid, like the Defender, is a rich person's toy and will have limited appeal to the traditional business customer who buys these things in big numbers. I have a deposit down on a Defender but am not going to order one because I am more impressed with the new Ranger Wildtrak for less than half the price and with vastly less tax to pay including relatively cheap road fund license in the UK.

I like your information, and the part on the towing weight / load weight to correct the video. Strange how the Wildtrack having a bigger engine would be less tax than this at a 2.0 litre? though if I read correctly, it's vehicle weight, etc.

It is 4wd but only in low range mode, the on road driving mode is RWD only.

Towing capacity = 2.5Ton. Not 980Kg - thats payload capacity. Wildtrack is 3.5Ton Towing Capacity.

€2.5k in tax... good old irish tax system. Apart from the stupidly high tax rate.. its that below par towing capacity that puts me off. Under 1 ton is ridiculous. My 170bhp Touareg tdi can tow 3.5 ton. Downsides to air suspension i guess

It's 2.5 tons actually, in the UK at least. Still well below class standards but other versions are available which are very nearly as comfortable to drive but do tow 3.5 tons.

@@byrnesy919 The Raptor is limited to 2500kgs. Other versions of the Ranger are rated to 3500kgs. Not all though. There is an alternative 'eco' differential ratio available on all models and if that is fitted then it will also be limited to 2500kgs. This is something to look out for when buying any used Ranger second hand if towing heavy loads is anticipated Towing 3.5 ton loads is not to be trifled with, but the leaf sprung Ranger T6 does it better than most and better even than my Land Cruiser 4.2 turbo-diesel. The Raptor is NOT suitable or legal for such loads.

Think tax is actually €710. Unusualy, commercial pickups used non commercially are taxed at the old engine size rate. In this case 2.0l.

People need different types of vehicles for different reasons. Diesel torque is best for this. Leccy a total non starter - for now at least.

The biggest and most important industry in Ireland is probably its farming. Pickups are just the most useful tools for farmers, utility companies and land surveyors. That's .a whole lot of potential customers right there, that maybe used to buy Land Rover Defenders for their businesses.
