this is by far the best episode yet, totally unexpected for me , but the stories Bod has hit home for me started skating ,being the smallest kid in school ,having no friends or goal in life ,got taken in by the older crew of 5 dudes who changed my life .. , ended up seeing the world ,22 years later still skating hard and enjoying life having met friends from all over the world . SKATEBOARDING SAVES LIVES!

I’ve noticed this before with other successful Pro’s turned business types, they only look forward. Thinking of the future and where they can take skateboarding or where skateboarding is going. Were as a lot of guests talk about the past and how good or big they used to be (Hosoi/ Valley are prime examples) At the very peak of Vert skating Hugh BOD Boyle was The World Champion and never even mentioned it, that is the mark of a truly humble human being and gentleman.

I remember getting my first pro board in 1989, a Bod Boyle Santa Cruz board (Stained Glass). My Dad bought it for me at the local surf shop, High Tide, in the Mojave Desert California. The board was absolute magic. These new skateboarders do all these extreme tricks today, fancy this and that, yadda yadda, but they just do not have the inception magic the old school 1970/1980/1990's guys had. It was more than extreme nutty tricks then, even in the early 90's it was a pure feeling. No tech, no over the top BS, just old school magazines and pictures, sitting on the back streets with every kid in the neighborhood, everyone outside everyday. These guys that added to that magic, Bod Boyle, Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Natas Kaupas, and many more, I would buy them all dinner any day of the week if I came across them in public. Im so thankful for those days.......

I don’t consider skating a sport, because in sports it is mostly competitive and a race to see who is the best. With skating there is so much individuality involved and emotional attachment that is subjective, it is more like music or art where no skater or type of skating is the best, you can appreciate all of them and everyone and choose to do it how you want to do it.

The discussion about getting more pro skaters paid better is a tricky one because it will require changes in the industry people won't want, or don't know they want until it's too late. It's an industry built on the backs of young people chasing a dream who are willing to not only forego looking out for their future selves, but often destroying themselves in the pursuit, and companies will always be glad to take advantage of that. The people who have been through it should be coming together and working out how to make the path better, namely a riders union that has guaranteed minimum salaries as well as healthcare for riders. If a company can't provide the basics for a skater, they shouldn't have that skater on their team. Skating keeps wanting to pretend it's all punk rock bootstraps, but it's time to recognize this is a mature industry and start doing business as such.

Not the right place to post this wheel packaging idea, but it just popped into my head. Cardboard bolt (for lack of better term) that feeds through the wheels to hold them together… maybe minimal cardbord sleeve over them with one or both ends open for graphic reveal. Or just a nice cardboard box to fit wheels with riding surfaces touching. A horizontal window for graphic reveal.
