We test a paintless dent repair kit from Harbor Freight! And it doesn't go very well. Watch this video to see how many tools we break - and whether we still have a dent when we're done.

I appreciate putting yourself out there, and admittedly the HF tool isn't great, but with actual proper technique it works pretty well. 1 - didn't appear to clean surface of car properly beforehand. 2 - dent was really too big for that puller. 3 - used waaay too much glue. 4 - you do NOT just crank down until something breaks free... put some tension, wait... little more, wait... and so on. This takes patience, and several goes at each spot. 5 - on a larger dent you do not start in the middle, start at one end and move as you go, pulling each section a little at a time. Trick is not to make too much change in any one area too fast.

In hia defense, the tool came with instructions that didn't say to do any of that.

Looks like the person that returned it before swapped the hot glue gun for a regular one with normal hot glue stick. Pdr glue guns and sticks are different, with much stronger and usually yellow or black glue sticks

Glue pull isn't for every type of dent but to take care of a crease such as that you want to work from the high spots. You want to work with a body hammer and relieve some pressure around the dented area as you go. It will take more than one pull, just saying.

Believe it or not, tool actually works if you get a NEW one that has not been messed up. Clean all the way around the borders of the dent and all the way to the center of the dented area. I also suggest you use a heat gun to heat up the metal around the borders of the dent and let the glue dry on the warm surface before starting to pull.

You need to scuff up the face of the pullers with some 120 grit sand paper which gives the glue a keyed surface to adhere onto. It also makes the pullers flat which helps as well. Also don’t try and bite off all off all the repair at once ....bodgery (great name btw) is fine but there’s definitely a technique to this method. Finally It is a cheap device there’s a lot better and more reliable units out there for just a bit more money.... good video though thanks for sharing 👍👍

I realise this is an older video, but you really didn't pull it right. First, you need to use the pull tab that matches the dent the best. Apply enough glue, and leave the tab to stick for a few minutes (also make sure only the glue touches the panel). And since that's a large dent, you're supposed to pull it starting on the outside. There are plenty of videos online to tell you how to "read" a dent to know where to pull next.

I've seen other videos where it does work but you have to know the type of dent you're dealing with. You need to use different techniques for different dents. Sometimes you have to tap a dent out (PDR) and not try to pull it. Tapping releases the tension so you don't crack your paint or create more dents. He should have done more research.

Put glob of glue on body, then set the middle plastic dent puller. Let glue harden about 5 minutes then install cross bar and pull dent. It should work just fine IF you let the glue set up.
@vleldaddio2102 жыл бұрын
I tried everything but no go !! Only thing worked was the release agent 😀
@jarmstrong28432 жыл бұрын
@@vleldaddio210 Well, you are trying to pull the dent from the center. You need to start around the edges and work towards the center. The way you are setting things up, you’ll create more problems by putting a high spot in the middle of dent. Your second problem is using Harbor Freight junk. Suggest just spending the $100 or so and have a professional do the PDR In about 45-60 minutes and save lots of aggravation. Doing things on the cheap when you don’t understand dent removal will only create more problems and cost you more in the long run. Just bust open the wallet and spend the $ by having someone with the knowledge and expertise remove the dent. You’ve already seen trying to do things on the cheap has gotten ya. NOTHING ACCOMPLISHED!
