This game is definitely a metaphor for something. When people with social problems / overthinkers / introverts fail again and again to make friends, meet good people, overcome their feeling of inadequacy, or fix their personal issues they obviously get really lonely and just end up isolating themselves more. Then they get depressed and lonely, suffer from cabin fever, sleep paralysis or horrific nightmares in a lot of cases, and most of all don't practice good hygiene. The dialogue option being inconceivable nonsense could be symbolism for their inability to communicate, the person throwing up is symbolism for their disgust towards this person, or the person's perceived disgust of themselves through others. The person's body becoming more and more distorted and mutated could be the result of them thinking they're disgusting from their flaws, along with bad hygiene causing them to actually get diseases. Them digging a hole in their basement could be a metaphor for them digging their own grave, it could be symbolism for them spiraling into insanity. Or they could just literally be digging a hole in their basement because they're crazy. The 2 of everything could be a result of a form of OCD they developed from the piling mental instability, or as a result of trying to distract themselves by buying things they don't need. The 2 of everything could also be them trying to cope with loneliness by making it seem like someone else lives with them and needs that extra thing. Or it could be a hallucination for the same purpose. The potted plants becoming people could obviously be from the loneliness and isolation. Their house becoming more and more worn down could be symbolism of their self-neglect, it could literally be them neglecting their living space, or it could be both. Them fighting the flower people could be them lucid dreaming and using that as an outlet to relieve themselves via simulated violence towards people they don't like or the world in general. Their house eventually becoming a laboratory could be their fear of ending up being studied and experimented on in a psych ward due to their degrading mental state and extreme paranoia. The game console being used as a progression tool in the first few days, and later as a teleportation tool could be symbolism for their escapism. I could go on and on about this but I'll stop here.

Imagine if at the end everything was back to normal but you now had TWO PlayStations...

I'm not so sure it's so much tentacles as roots. Makes sense, everything else is a flower, but you're the roots that have to keep digging yourself deeper and deeper. No one wants to see the ugly roots under a pretty flower, I imagine is the logic.

Reminds me of getting violently ill when you live alone. Catch something at a party, every day it gets worse, call out of work, refuse to go to the hospital, become flesh demon, dig pit in basement, wield your infernal instrument of freedom to slay the demonic angels of vanity that plague your soul as you accept your truest self and all its flaws as you carve your way out of the hell that has sprouted within your bones, wake up feeling better.

A kid in my Spanish class vomited all over the place earlier today, so now I have to relive that experience all over again due to this video. Thanks, manly.

Aside from the body horror aspect, this game is truly a horror if you have both social anxiety AND emetophobia.

Huh, was half expecting a chain of party incidents, where people projectile vomited at the sight of you, and you constantly mutated while failing to get away.

Definitely seems like the game is, at least in part, a metaphor for improving one's self-image, specifically, I think, defeating the idea that you have to be perfect. Hence the enemies being these marble-esque, muscular dudes with flower faces, and the protag being this gross, hunched over monster, until the end, when he's overcome it.

I actually liked this game alot more than most PS1 graphics games, there was just something special about this one, the way everything played out/was set out differently and the textures made it super unique, its like a silent hill rpg especially with the fighting mechanics and monsters. Another great video as always 👍🏼

_The moral of so many stories_ Don't have parties with weird people or go to them. Or don't stand next to really drunk girl who vomits. Was she infected, or were you just really allergic to vomit? Idk, but it was very Kafka-esque. I liked how not only you changed by being more tantacle-y every day, but your apartment changed too. Even tho I was reminded of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd with the flower-headed enemies, it was still cool horror.

I feel it looked less like tentacles and more like roots? That paired with the pictures of flowers becoming anatomy and the digging and the garden men make me think its about personal growth and the fraught relationship between the perceived and hidden self. Like a flower and its roots, theyre part of the same thing but we only tend to one of them regularly. Edit: the title seems to refer to a specific french pottery decorating technique, which makes me think of flower pots and outer shells

ive been sick for 3 months straight, each time i start to feel better a new sickness crops up. been juggling between pneumonia, sinus infections, and ear infections. this game is literally what that feels like. yes ive been seeing the doctors and yes i take what they give me, yet still i can't get better.

Well that went from "Typical House Party" to "Papa Nurgle's Funhouse" real quick.

Probably far fetched, or maybe it's even obvious but here's what I got as the gist of the whole thing: TLDR - the character is an alcoholic and the game shows just how bad your problem is getting both physically and metaphorically until an inevitable death, despite attempts at intervention to help. -I believe our character is an alcoholic. The first day shows just how bad your problem is at a party you host. The girl vomiting and passing out foreshadows how bad your problem really is. The protagonist stumbling their words isn't necessarily just awkwardness, but you being too drunk and effed up to even think properly. But you don't care, nobody cares. all they care about is getting alcohol, just like you. The 2nd day you get some water, probably cause you have a bad hangover. -Your alcoholism is slowly starting to manifest itself - your home is getting dirtier and unkept, your appearance is poorly-groomed and your mind is becoming polluted. You can't see things properly around you and everything is twisted and weird. -You are then confronted by strange creatures inside of your home, although they initially seem to not want to cause you harm. The white figures with grass/flower heads symbolize healthy body and a healthy mind built upon a solid foundation. This is where the "barbotine" in the title comes to play. The barbotine used in their body's assembly is strong and stable, like well-crafted pottery. Their minds and spirits are healthy and clean, represented as a budding flower bed in place of their head. But the foundation you are creating for yourself, your barbotine, is more grotesque and deformed, like poorly assembled pottery. The tentacles protruding from you are actually roots, rotting and withering without proper soil and without any flowers or fruit. Essentially, your character is dying. You are a dying flower bed in rotting, poorly made pottery. You are surrounded by healthy flower beds in well-made pottery... normal people. -Whether or not these are just your subconscious thoughts or drunken interpretations of people healthier than you, it resembles a typical type of intervention scenario, with everyone inside the room waiting for you and demanding your attention by preventing you from leaving. These could either be real people, or just persistent thoughts in the back of your mind telling you that you need help. Despite spiraling further into alcoholism, you know that there are internal or external influences telling you to get some help. You choose to ignore the good intentions of this intervention, and continue to dig deeper into your alcoholism. -Day after day, you are digging yourself deeper into a hole. You are becoming more grotesque, both in mind and body, just like an alcoholic would become. Your problem is getting worse and you're only digging yourself deeper into it, indifferent to the world around you. -"You know you can't do that until you look at yourself". This being is giving you a choice, it's trying to help you - don't dig yourself deeper until you realize the consequences of your actions and it won't let you proceed any further with this self-destructive behavior. - You looked at yourself, see yourself spiraling deeper into the hole you've buried yourself into, but you don't care. Your addiction made your choice for you. The external forces trying to help you can see your problem has gotten far too out of hand to simply just stand aside and do nothing, they won't let you dig yourself deeper into that hole. You will fight off any "help" trying to get into your way, push aside everything so you can go back to your hole and dig deeper into it. The shovel is your weapon of choice, cause it symbolizes your choice. You WILL dig deeper downward. -The various organs and anatomical studies you'll find later in the game are representative of how chronic alcoholism impacts each part of the body. When an alcoholic dies, an autopsy would surely reveal the extent to which the frequent alcohol consumption poisoned the body's systems. Speaking of autopsy, the 2nd to last night looks like it takes place more in some kind of medical facility rather than a typical house. It might be a type of morgue. The gallons of radioactive sludge around you in this area the alcohol itself, the thing which destroyed your body and will inevitably send you there. -The water you drank on day two was supposed to help with your hangovers, but you're slowly accumulating more of it day after day as large jugs in your basement. You need as much water as possible to help with the frequent hangovers and help better mask your appearance to others around you. By the end you've got a lot of water in your basement, but its now green probably because it's been mixed with alcohol or your own vomit. -At the end of the day, its become apparent that the vast majority of this was all symbolic for the player rather than literal. Regardless, you've refused all help and succumbed to your inner demons, your worsening weakness, your alcoholism. You take your house key, ready to start the day and leave your home. You might even decide to to pass the liquor store on the way. Hope you drank enough water today. IDK what things like the TV are supposed to mean. Other interpretations of this game are good, but this is just what I see from it. I'm probably completely wrong, idk.

If anybody asks me why I'm an introvert, I'll just show them this. I only deal with GRADUAL mutations and my OWN vomit, thank you.

So... girl pukes on you at party, which causes the character to get body snatched, turning into a flood like creature, then you end up in a place that looks like doom and outlast had a location baby, where you're fighting silent Hill esque flower faced stone creatures, and it was all a dream...? This was definitely an interesting take on self image and confidence. The battle music was fire too 🔥

I can kinda see it.. I had some really... Really horrible things happen to me when I was young.. And due to things I ended up having an extremely negative view of myself.. I also kind of seen myself as inhuman... Sort of like a living Curse. I kept having that view till a wonderful person helped me out of that.. I still get that view sometimes.. I can seem to knock that.. I have some major PTSD and I often go back into that mode when ever it gets triggered.. But yea. For those who might be wondering.. Who have not seen a few comments I have left on past videos of Manly's stuff. I was tortured and had other things happen to me when I was a kid. Seen a lot of horrible things and had horrible things done to me. It can not be helped now obviously as it is in the past. Just got to keep moving. Nothing is easy and if it is its probably not worth it you know?
