As a linguist it's actually historically true that black and white are the first colors to emerge as having words devoted to them. Like, if your culture has two color words it's going to be black and white. If it has 3 then it will be black, white, red. If it has 4, it will be black, white, red, yellow. So he's reflecting a real order of development in human cultures.
