If I could go back in time I would teach all this to my naive younger self so much sooner...
... anyway who used to play Stardoll? That game was my life lol

Wish I could’ve heard this as a teenager! I also idolized models and chased very unrealistic goals. I’m also 5’4 😂😂 I don’t think it occurred to me how underweight the average runway model was with a BMI of about 16 💀 or how problematic maintaining that was for health and how unsustainable

I’ve turned twenty 3 months ago. I’ve become obsessed with regaining the body I had when I was 15-16 and have even resorted to eating only 900 cals a day (spoiler alert: just cuz ur short DOESN’T mean you gotta eat the same amount of cals as a 3 year old toddler: don’t trust the fitness and calorie tracker recommendations on bmi!) I’ve come to realize that the reason why body doesn’t look the same at 16 than now was bc I grew into my hips!! Your body type changes the older you get, but the essence of it is the same throughout your life. Thank you for bringing this topic up! Learning to flatter your own body type is hard but figuring it out is worth it

I hope this video reaches to all teenagers and actually everyone who is struggling to accept their bodies and try to look a certain way. I wish i had a source like you when i was a teen, your videos are teaching so many important points in this culture where bodies become trends. Thank you so much, not only the things you point are important but also the way you talk about things are so chill and ,i belive, good for many peoples mental health❤️

When i weighed 100 kgs for my 162 cm, i could not care less about my shape or size, i didn't even try to look like the skinny girls. After i lost almost 40 kg, i became incredibly nitpicky and obsessive about everything, worry about milliliters on my waist, and grams on the scale. The skinnier you are, the more obsessive you get, i swear.

Well, i disagree. I’ve always been under 100lbs and I’m 5’3. I actually started working out to gain weight and I did, still doing. It may not be much on the scale, but I’m significantly toned and strong. I didn’t care about the milliliters on my waist I still don’t. I think it’s more important to be healthy. edit: now I am 105lbs

Body type has just as much to do with fat distribution as it does bone structure. High hipped women with hourglass or pear fat distribution tend to sharply curve in at the waist, while low hipped women gently curve in at the waist.
@cynicalcenobia

I mean even Bella Hadid at 13:12 does not look like that Bella Hadid anymore; since then she's had multiple procedures done to 'thin-out' her face and add more sharpness and definition to get rid of the natural cheek-fullness that most of us (at her age) still have. You are doing a good job at explaining the limitations our genetics and overall bone-structure put on the type of bodies we are actually able to achieve, however, with these celebs and models, it's worth noting that dieting is not the only tool at their disposal to max-out their appearances, and surgery was precisely invented to counter-act these genetic limitations, i.e. remove fat/re-shape areas that mere lifestyle changes can no longer influence...It's a bit messed up, especially knowing that the majority of these people's followers and target audiences are young girls.
@JessicaVianaa

100% agree - here I was trying to focus specifically on body types as a whole more related to our skeletal structure which is harder to change even with plastic surgery. If we delve into plastic surgery there’s whole channels dedicated to that and we’d be here for daysss, which I agree is very worrisome thinking of today’s teens (and even young adults!)
@cynicalcenobia
@cynicalcenobia Жыл бұрын
@@JessicaVianaa Yep, agreed; like the physical-sorcery that are most modern surgical procedures is a whole other can of worms, haha!😄I do love your explanations in this video, esp. the bit on different body-types and frames that pre-destine us for having a certain appearance, as this is rarely discussed; probs bc in our current culture there is a lot of emphasis on self-improvement & betterment, we rarely talk about the fact that some things about the self (i.e. bone-structure, genes, etc.) are just inherently fixed - they cannot (really) be altered naturally, however dedicated one is. I hope you'll keep on making these videos - irrespective of the amount of views they get - as the messages are always v. useful an informative. 😌

I love this video so much and I relate a lot! When I was 13, I started taking meds for major depression and that made me start gaining weight gradually. Since I was only a preteen, I fully believed that was what my “adult” body was supposed to look like. Then, 8 years later, I finally got off meds and lost over 10kg, and suddenly I became very obsessed with looking as thin as possible. Last year I ate about 900 calories per day for months (whilst also exercising daily), but my waist never got smaller than 58cm, which I realize is rather small but the thing is: I was trying to make myself smaller. Now I try to eat healthier/more and my waist is the same size because that’s just where my bone structure lies lol and it’s so funny because it’s exactly what you went through! Another interesting thing is that my rib cage is ultra flared, so even in my smallest I absolutely do not look small there. Honestly I’ve thought a lot about body image and my deep struggles with body dysmorphia, but this video gave me a whole ‘nother perspective and sense of self. Thank you so much for that ❤
@leaoraissa
@leaoraissa Жыл бұрын
And for the last year, whenever I was having an episode of extreme body dysmorphia about trying to look smaller, my fiancé would say “if you look any smaller, you’re going to become only bones, you’re going to collapse” and I’d think “of course not, I’ve seen people look much smaller than this”, but the thing is this 👏🏼 is👏🏼my👏🏼body👏🏼structure👏🏼 This is how my body is framed! And this video made me realize he was right all along. Maybe someone else can be smaller than me, but I absolutely cannot.

You know what the weird thing is? I'm what people would call a 'skinny girl'. Granted I'm 5ft2 (definitely not model height 😂).. I've been pretty much inundated with people constantly telling me I need to beef up, I clearly don't eat enough. Some comments come from an ignorant yet well meaning place, others come as snide comments from individuals who themselves have been trying to lose weight. I'm healthy. I don't need to justify my weight to anyone. In certain moments, I did let people's comments get to me because regardless of how we look , we all have insecurities. Point is, certain bodies might look ideal to a certain crowd, and not to another. Our bodies are these beautiful instruments that carry us through this life and we ought to be full of gratitude for that ❤❤❤

I didn’t go too much into it but I read some things about how pregnancy can change bone structure, especially the hips. Also if someone develops scoliosis or any other similar condition of the spine. It’s definitely an interesting topic to dig into!
