On 9/4/21, dispatch relayed a BOLO (be on the lookout) for a reckless drivers who was unable to maintain their lane. An officer on patrol observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic, at times almost hitting the curb. The officer conducted a traffic stop and immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the cabin. The driver was unable to multitask and was reluctant to comply with the officer's instructions. Eventually, she stated that she would do the field sobriety tests. Before being able to them, she tried walking away multiple times. The officers attempted to stop her from walking away and she pulled away saying "don't touch me!" and began to fight back. Police gained control over the situation and put her in handcuffs. They charged her with resisting arrest and DUI.

@@bigguy7353that’s quite a flippant statement considering the number of DUI arrests in the US each year. According to FBI data 443,000 people were arrested on suspicion for DUI in 2021. That’s down from nearly 1 million people arrested in 2014. And that’s only the drunk drivers who were caught. So while there may not be “one behind every tree”, the risk of encountering a drunk driver isn’t Insignificant.

I feel bad for the Cops that are brought up on charges for doing whatever was needed to bring these criminals to jail, with SOME LEOs losing their jobs and sometimes their freedom over it. If the perp dies due to a substance they took then that was their decision and it turning bad wasn't the LEOs fault

Although how much do you want to be that some middle class lady in an Audi gets pulled over and they fine _her_ for not having it, the one time she leaves them at home accidentally.

I don't even get that. Are you saying your family reunions are calmer or more chaotic? Is a cake walk supposed to be more or less chaotic than your reunion, or it just bears the same relationship, better or worse that complete chaos bears to this? The logical thing to say would be "if this is complete chaos, them my family reunions are nuclear war", because this relatively calm scene being described as complete chaos is exaggerating the scene, so your reunions, which would normally be called chaotic, are now exaggerated to an absurd level. That's humor. Using a mild, placid event to describe your reunions leaves it very unclear.

These drunk moms never seem to think about their kids at home when they are knocking back drinks then getting behind the wheel. They always seem to think the words, "My kids..." will get them out of much deserved charges. Playing the parent card might work at your employment, but it won't work in this case. If you are worried about your kid so much then you should BE at home with said kid.

My daughter’s best friend was 8 months pregnant when she was hit by a drunk driver while less than 8 miles from her home. She lost the baby. He was the first baby that almost made it to term because all of her past pregnancies never made it past two months. They had his room painted and enough clothing and diapers to last him until he could walk. I hate drunk drivers. Especially since the bitch responsible walked away without a scratch. Meanwhile this poor girl had broken bones and lacerations on her face from the airbag deployment. The husband divorced her afterwards because this was also hard on him. That drunk driving twat ruined innocent lives just because she decided that getting drunk was the best way to celebrate getting a raise at her job.

It’s devastating for both of them.

Another example of why field sobriety tests are a waste of time, if they just used a roadside breath analyser the results would determine whether she goes to jail for a evidentiary breath test or gets to go home after a one way conversation with the officer about her driving skills, but no, let’s waste time doing a test that she would obviously fail and then bring up some mysterious physical disability that resulted in her failing the sobriety tests, those tests are a waste of time.

Those that have been caught driving under the influence should face much harsher consequences especially when it is their first time being proven guilty. Offenders need to receive much harsher punishment than they do. Mandatory jail time should be a must. At least 90 days in jail to start with. There has to be a better way to deal with/punish those who make the choice to drink and drive.

When cops suspect detainees of being under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants and have ruled out any medical issues, they should give them ONE chance to follow instructions. If they do not comply to the first lawful command, cops should assume that they are dealing with the intoxicant and not the person and put the detainee in handcuffs, read them their rights and then off to jail. This would save a lot of wasted time and effort.
