For the last six months I have been experiencing intermittent pain radiating from the right lower posterior head down the neck with soreness in the pectoral area. I had office visits to my primary care physician who referred me to a neurologist, an orthopedist and a physical therapist. The diagnosis was arthritis of the cervical spine. It was not until I stumbled across your KZfaq channel did I finally discover the problem. I’m a right side sleeper who generally sleeps with one arm extended. I’m so relieved to have discovered what is causing my right side pain. I suspected the problem was my pillow because when I sleep on a foam pillow rather than a feather pillow my neck is so stiff I can barely turn my head the following morning. I am weeping with joy! I will try to form new sleeping habits. Thank you ever so much.

So glad to help! I explain a good way to sleep (with a slightly description) in this video. So check that out... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ecuYZ9Jh3tGyaH0.html (About the 7 minutes mark) And, as I mentioned in your other comment, definitely release the pec minor. I think I show it best in the first exercise of this video... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mqiRY7R-ua24hpc.html

What a diamond! Anything can be learned or new 'habits' formed. I am a back sleeper and found that sleeping with socks on in the winter months helps with not changing positions at night as sometimes one can - if tall like me and feet dangle on edge of bed - curl up or raise knees to get more warmth thus breaking the posture.

Very interesting indeed, as for many years now I trained myself to sleep on the stomach because a famous Austrian Chiropractor said that sleeping on the side is nothing but a prolongued sitting-position, which is terrible for your back and hips and knees and... I can't sleep on the back, so the side with a pillow or side-stretched leg to support me is the only position I can sleep in now. Laugh or cry. I'm too old to re-train again ;)
@BodyFixExercises

I disagree with the Austrian chiropractor because sleeping on your stomach causes so much head rotation. I personally sleep on my side, just swapping sides every now and then.

I would like to sleep on my back, but I am scared of sleep paralysis. I’ve heard that it usually happens when you sleep laying down on your back and my friends and relatives who had experienced it confirmed that. So I usually stick up to sleeping on side with pillow between my knees as you’ve showed in this video. I am young so I do not have any severe back pain but I am an artist - usually sitting for a long time when I paint. So I don’t know if I should overcome this fear and learn to sleep on my back, if that would lead to less pain when I am older. (sorry, English is not my first language :’) What do all of you think of that, have you ever heard of sleep paralysis? I know that it happens mainly because of poor sleep schedule but it still scares me. (Good thing about it is that it’s the only thing not letting me mess up my sleep. I kind of have a respect towards it :D) And yes, great videos! + super cute cat :)
@BodyFixExercises
@BodyFixExercises 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. My cat says 'Hi!" I'm no sleep paralysis expert but I wouldn't avoid sleeping on your back just because of that. However, I only sleep on my side (with pillow), so you don't really need to lie on your back if you don't want

How do I tell if my pillow is to high? I am a side sleeper, and I am experiencing the shoulder, neck pains, and pinched nerves, mainly on my right side, which are causing extreme migraines. Im not able to fall to sleep on my back at all. Im not to sure if my pillow is the right size or not. Can you help me please! Thank you in advance! Btw love your videos!! Just tonight I’ve come across your channel, which I am in desperate need of being educated so that I can over come the pain I’ve been experiencing! Thank you!

If someone looks at your torso from behind when you're lying on your side ... your neck should be straight with your torso if your pillow is the right height. But tilted up or down. Usually about 10-11cm pillows are good for most people

Great video. Keen to hear your thoughts on the possible causes of a tight right side QL muscle near the floating ribs upon waking in the morning. I sleep on the left of the bed and sleep on my right side. I hug a pillow. We have a good bed but clearly I’m doing something unconsciously at night to stress my right side QL. I always have to stretch in the morning by throwing my right leg over my left leg whilst putting my right arm out to stretch my right pec. My osteo says my right shoulder tends to rotate forward and in. I suspect sleeping in my right doesn’t help but sleeping on my left side is more uncomfortable for some reason.
@BodyFixExercises
@BodyFixExercises Жыл бұрын
Sounds like your bed is too soft or hard. Either can cause a tilting to the side of the lower back, overstretching the QL and potentially jamming upper lumbar vertebrae. Check this video out... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qptziKukvdOzlmw.html

I've found that with side sleeping, it's just as important to have a good pillow between the knee's; something solid. The pillow should be long enough to separate the ankles as wel.

I keep hearing about using an adjustable base and sleeping in the "zero gravity" position. Have you heard, and what do you think, of it?
@BodyFixExercises
@BodyFixExercises 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bruce. Good question. The zero gravity position itself is actually quite good for your back. (If you had a medical condition and HAD to sleep all night on your back it'd be good). But if your bed is that shape all night you can't sleep on your side (it'd ruin your back) and moving around a bit as you sleep is actually quite important. The spinal joints (and muscles) like movement and if you don't change position occasionally the joints get stiff and restricted. You can get some of the benefits of the zero gravity position by just putting a pillow under your knees. That way you can still lie on your side and get some variation. So unless you have a specific medical condition it's a bit of a gimmick.

Sir tell me the exact height of the pillow for sleeping on back
@BodyFixExercises
@BodyFixExercises 4 жыл бұрын
11cm or less if you sleep on your back. (The smaller the better if you sleep on your back ALL night and never move.) BUT if you sometimes sleep on your side, a low pillow won't support your neck well. So if you sometimes sleep on your side too, and you are of average size, a 10-11cm high firm pillow is a good size.

@BodyFixExercises

On your back without a pillow is fine. The only issue is that if you roll onto your side, there will be no support for your neck. But if you stay on your back... no problems. 👍

Sir whenever I sleep a bone in my neck back bulge out can you please tell me what is this and How to cure it
@BodyFixExercises
@BodyFixExercises 4 жыл бұрын
It depends where it is. If it's the upper neck it's because you are sleeping in a position with too much neck rotation. If it's the base of the neck, where the neck meets the upper back, then you're sleeping in a position with the neck too bent forward. Is it one of these areas?

Yeah, everyone seems to love at least starting off on their stomach. It's a pity it's so bad for your neck & back. And Zero Gravity sounds cool, but you can't change onto your side without adjusting the whole bed so it's only for certain people. Thanks for commenting!
