The most iconic airplanes ever built? These five airplanes are among my personal favorite airplanes and whenever one of them is expected nearby I try to film them in action. The Boeing 727, Dc10, Md11, L1011 and TU154 are slowly becoming extinct which is extremly sad. I filmed the L1011 in 2011 and it was my last encounter with this aircraft type. Currently there is just one L1011 active in the world.
Last june I filmed this red Boeing 727 of 2Exel Aviation at Maastricht which is the reason for this video. I didn` t want to upload a 45 sec. clip of the 727 departure and that` s why I embed it in this "Tristar" compilation.
The first MD11 clip might be my personal favorite video clip in my entire video collection. Western Global had an awesome timing arriving at Liege right after a heavy rainfall.

All five of these classics are some of the greatest aircraft of all time! They are far more iconic, far more interesting, and have much more soul and character than modern aircraft. A220s, 787s, and A350s are brilliant aircraft, but I hardly get excited when I see them (because they’re everywhere)!

Well honesty, I was a 727 fan big time for a long time...but then I got a lift on a L1011 Tristar and I was hooked. Greatest technological Jet ever developed, that ultimately failed commercially through little fault of their own. You can lay it at the feet of Rolls Royce. I'll never forget the sound of my first take off, screaming in my head, there's not enough thrust, it's too quiet, then we just lifted off the runway and I said; I could get used to this big time. From that time forward, traveling 245-270k miles a year internationally as a VP for a manufacturing concern, I always sought out flights on L1011's every chance I got. Even put up with abysmal Pan Am service to fly their TriStars.

I like the DC-10s, L1011s! I never was in a TU154, but they sound good. I used to work for Delta Airlines on the 727-200c. So many great memories! The 727-200c was and will always be my favorite!

I used to fly the L1011 and DC10 every year from the US to Germany, they were good planes. Brings back memories. Thanks for the great video!

I flew on the Tristar 4 times when I was young ; on charter flights to IBZ and PMI. They were operated by Court Line Aviation on behalf of Clarksons the package tour operator. A different kettle of fish altogether compared with Court Lines main fleet of BAC 1-11 500's which I flew on quite a bit also. Good memories and a great video :)

I also travelled on Courts Tristar to Siciliy with my parents. We took some pictures of it when it landed, so wish I could find those photo slides, it was the yellow one.

I don't fly much but I remember flying on an L-1011 one time when there were only a few passengers. It was eerie seeing the plane so empty.

GREAT VIDEO Cargospotter. I flew for TWA from 1976/2000 and the B727-100 & B727-200 were both in our fleet together with the L1011 that remain my favorite aircraft I've worked on and that includes the B747-100, B747-200 B767-200, B757-200, DC9-60, DC9-90, MD80 and the CV880 & B707 that were being faced out as I came onboard in the late 1970's.

Type in Google "2010 Tu-154 crash" - there died Polish president with a part of Polish government in Russian city Smolensk, an hour before the meeting 70th anniversary of murder made on Polish soldiers by Russians in Katyn. I'm a Pole and the name "Tu-154", also same word "Tupolev" always reminds me about that tragedy :(

The fact is the whole tragedy was caused by 8-12 micro radio bombs installed inside wings by Russian KGB engineers a year before catastrophe, when the plane had to undergo overall inspection. All explosions were recorded on black boxes which were stolen by Russians for first half of year, the remaining live people on board were killed with gun by Russian special forces in first minutes after crash (recorded Russian words and shooting commands on two videos on youtube), and the tupolev plane wreck was never sent back to Poland. Russia was allowed to bury Polish corpses, and two years ago it was revealed that in each coffin there were different parts of bodies - 5 legs, no arms, 3 skulls, 5 arms - all thrown in randomly there. No matter who the culprit of catastrophe was, Russians made huge profanation of Polish heads of state, I see you don't understand much in English and you trigger like 90% analphabetic Russians when it comes to relationship with Poles.

As a passenger, I took many trips on the 727, DC-10, and L-1011 (never on the MD-11 though). They were so comfortable; not like now where you’re squeezed in like sardines!

My favorite...the 727...100 version and the 200 stretched. I was a part time United ramp rat in Newport News, VA from 1973 to 1976 while working my way through college and I spent many a morning, afternoon or evening on my knees up in the cargo holds loading bags and freight and other stuff. I was especially fond of cleaning the cabin on the night time arrivals and checking to see if there were any meals left over, especially in first class. If there were, we chowed down. Oh, the memories. And my knees are still in very good condition. Thanks for an excellent video. Blessings.

Notice at 4:00 on the Tupelov, main gears swing vertical than rotate back. It’s a quite impressive engineering by the Russians.

I've never been on a trijet, but I just about remember seeing them as a young kid. so in terms of looks, probably the L1011 is my favourite. I feel the tail design accomodates the 3rd engine better, whereas the DC-10 just looks like they slapped it on at the last minute. Don't like the 727 much for some reason, just don't like the way it looks. Aviation is one of the only things in the world that occasionally makes me wish I was older. I'm only just at the stage in life now where I have the disposable income to really enjoy it, and already we're at the stage where flying on a 747 feels like a privilege. In 5 years time, the only 4 engine aircraft that isn't almost impossible to fly on will be the A380, and even that will be short lived.

Tristars are EASY to spot from the front, even without seeing the intake on the tail...just notice their wing engines are several feet further outboard, compared to the DC-10.

Great compilation CS !!! My fave planes are the quad-jets (B707, DC8, 747, A340, A380), but tri-jets are good. B727 & L1011, with the s-duct venting, are a much more aesthetically pleasant configuration, IMO. The DC10s and their replacement MD-11s were comfortable and functional, but the tail engine placement was ugly. On the positive side though, access for service and replacement were much easier.

I really like the TriJets, especially the Boeing 727, and the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. The way the 3rd Engine is just Aerodynamically Blended in.

Really like the triple engine jets. L-1011 was always a favorite along with the super 27. Wish things could have worked out better for the L-1011. See the Fed-Ex MD-11 and DC-10's on a daily basis. That TU-154 looks like a 727 on steroids. Thanks for posting and sharing these triple engine flying machines.

Flew the B-727 from the 100 series to the 225 and enjoyed them. In my book the 727 replaced the DC-3 as a work horse. Then flew the L-1011 with the RR / RB211 and enjoyed every minute, although we had our share of problems with engines. Thanks, for video, enjoyed watching it.

Boeing B727 looks like a good design for passenger or cargo plane. It even has at least 2 main engine reverse thrusters. That must save on brake replacement and maintenance.

Sergio Cota Lockheed Tristar was a good and silent plane, it was less common than jumbo jets, DC10 and MD11 but I saw a few ones in the 90s at Fiumicino Rome airport

9:03 TU154 pilot dealing with a stiff crosswind or maybe even a headwind when it touched down...and I mean "touch", that was some flying. My favorite plane ever is the 727-200...I know the Royal Air force loves those L1011s and so do I.

Avient Aviation was a cargo airline in Zimbabwe, for many difficulties the airline ceased operations in 2013 and that DC-10 was sold.
