IFR they are using it. It’s wheee you completely relay on flight instruments due to bad weather , wether it be take of , landing . It’s an helpful feature

Going below minimums is certainly not gutsy. Its incredibly foolish and dangerous. But this was not below minimums. It seems they were running a cat3c approach, though the weather was good enough for a cat2. There are no minimums for a cat3c approach. It can be flown in 0 visibility and no ceiling.

@@tylerfb1 Actually, there is a minimum for cat 3 and it is 75 meters or 300 feet visibilty. There is no cat 3 with mins of 0 visibility. However. Don't have to see anything. Just need the reported vis.

777's are great - I heard a joke from a 777 pilot Who said that only one actual pilot is required... The co pilot is a large dog... His job is to bite the hands of the pilot if he reaches for any controls during any part of the flight.

But what happens when they do need to land the plane without some of those automations? Pilots becoming complacent because of technology is a very real problem.

I'd like to know what airline sets their minimums to 100 feet or less. I've never herd of it being less than 3-5. For those non pilots if you do not have runway visual by the minimums you must go around and or divert pending on attemps and fuel.

Virtually all scheduled 121 operators have less than 100 feet mins which are Cat III.

Agree with others. Pretty much all part 121 operators (all large passenger airlines) are able to operate in 0/0 conditions which are cat3c approach criteria. This weather was good enough for cat2, but it seems the airplane was set for cat3c.

Definitely not zero vis. He called approach lights at 300 feet. Thats' a cat 1 ILS. could have hand flown it easily.

That wasn't zero visibility, they broke out at 100ft and had at least 1/2-3/4miles visibility.

No interaction. Most commercial landings are automatic these days.

@@a5centnot on clear days. Even on storm days if the ceiling isnt low theyll use VFR. If they dont use it they loose it. IFR is more for instances shown, and always a great back up.

Dude, really? When visibility is @ 100 ft., it's fair to call that "zero disability". It's less than 'minimums' for any other type of approach.

@@treylem3 not sure who you’re calling “dude”, but zero means zero. You’re probably familiar with LVP/and LVO operations? I have done plenty of CAT3B approaches, never a CAT3C. This isn’t a zero visibility approach. Good day!
