Reissue of the classic 1/120 box scale Boeing B-29. Measures 10 1/2 inches long with a 14 inch wingspan. This kit comes molded in silver with clear swivel stand and another display stand option. Updated decals for 3 versions! Skill Level 2. Glue required for assembly.
Officially licensed with Boeing!
The Boeing B-29 Superfortress is an American four-engine propeller-driven heavy bomber designed by Boeing and flown primarily by the United States during World War II and the Korean War. Named in allusion to its predecessor, the B-17 Flying Fortress, the Superfortress was designed for high-altitude strategic bombing but also excelled in low-altitude night incendiary bombing and in dropping naval mines to blockade Japan. B-29s also dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and became the only aircraft that has ever used nuclear weapons in combat.
One of the largest aircraft of World War II, the B-29 had state-of-the-art technology, including a pressurized cabin, dual-wheeled, tricycle landing gear, and an analog computer-controlled fire-control system that allowed one gunner and a fire-control officer to direct four remote machine gun turrets. The $3 billion cost of design and production (equivalent to $43 billion today[3]), far exceeding the $1.9 billion cost of the Manhattan Project, made the B-29 program the most expensive of the war.[4][5]
The B-29's advanced design allowed it to remain in service in various roles throughout the 1950s. The type was retired in the early 1960s after 3,970 of them had been built.
A few were used as flying television transmitters by the Stratovision company. The Royal Air Force flew the B-29 as the Washington until 1954.
The B-29 was the progenitor of a series of Boeing-built bombers, transports, tankers, reconnaissance aircraft, and trainers. The re-engined B-50 Superfortress became the first aircraft to fly around the world non-stop during a 94-hour flight in 1949. The Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter airlifter, which was first flown in 1944, was followed in 1947 by its commercial airliner variant, the Boeing Model 377 Stratocruiser. This bomber-to-airliner derivation was similar to the B-17/Model 307 evolution. In 1948, Boeing introduced the KB-29 tanker, followed in 1950 by the Model 377-derivative KC-97. A line of outsized-cargo variants of the Stratocruiser is the Guppy / Mini Guppy / Super Guppy, which remain in service with NASA and other operators.
The Soviet Union produced 847 Tupolev Tu-4s, an unlicensed reverse-engineered copy of the aircraft.
Twenty B-29s remain as static displays but only two, FIFI and Doc, still fly.
In September 1941, the Army Air Forces plans for war against Germany and Japan proposed basing the B-29 in Egypt for operations against Germany as British airbases were likely to be overcrowded.[39][40] Air Force planning throughout 1942 and early 1943 continued to have the B-29 deployed initially against Germany, only transferring to the Pacific after the end of the war in Europe. By the end of 1943, however, plans had changed, partly due to production delays, and the B-29 was dedicated to the Pacific Theater.[41] A new plan implemented at the direction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt as a promise to China, called Operation Matterhorn, deployed the B-29 units to attack Japan from four forward bases in southern China, with five main bases in India, and to attack other targets in the region from China and India as needed.[42] The Chengdu region was eventually chosen over the Guilin region to avoid having to raise, equip, and train 50 Chinese divisions to protect the advanced bases from Japanese ground attack.[43] The XX Bomber Command, initially intended to be two combat wings of four groups each, was reduced to a single wing of four groups because of the lack of availability of aircraft, automatically limiting the effectiveness of any attacks from China.
The first B-29 flight to airfields in China (over the Himalayas, or "The Hump") took place on 24 April 1944. The first B-29 combat mission was flown on 5 June 1944, with 77 out of 98 B-29s launched from India bombing the railroad shops in Bangkok and elsewhere in Thailand. Five B-29s were lost during the mission, none to hostile fire.

Despite its simplicity, this is a very nice, vintage kit. And here is a bit of trivia: The original 1954 issue of this model kit made a brief cameo appearance in the first "Back to the Future" movie, where we catch a quick glimpse of the box on George McFly's nightstand. (This is just before his son Marty gives him the honor of being the very first person to hear the music of Eddie Van Halen . . . .) Thanks for posting this!

@@garyparker2969 Kee Bird was a B29 that made a forced landing on the ice sheets up in Greenland in the 1940s. It sat there almost entirely intact until the 1990s when it was decided to make a (really dumb) attempt at flying the bomber off the ice. A fire broke out and the entire plane was engulfed and destroyed. The charred, twisted, remains still sit up on the ice flow. It's another instance of something being okay where it was until someone decided to fix it and then screwed it up.

Just built this myself as a gift for my brother. I am used to Gundam model kits but kits like these are so fulfilling from gluing everything in place to painting. My only complaint is the amount of seamlines but with some extra effort those were no problem.

Really nice little big plane! I really love it. It's pretty. Oh, and before I forget, thanks for using Rustoleum and Krylon paint and showing me that it's actually good paint. Before I had been told that those paints were bad paint for model kits. But I've decided to try it after seeing what you do with it on a couple of (unfinished) kits and I really like it. Also nice that the mat white and mat black are both paint and primer.

You can use the kit national insignia for most bombers. Different tail codes can be laid out in a paint program and printed on clear decal film. I'm not sure they even make 1/144 B29 decals (just 1/72 and 1/48). You could also scan and reduce a larger decal.

I see you using it before and after placing, I use ordinary water and it works ok, but clearly there is a reason for this product. your models are definitely something to aspire to achieving myself. Decal solvents softens decals to sink into the curves and around panel lines, etc. It also helps them slide around on the paint much easier. Many times water works perfectly fine by itself.

Try this video on decals. It's not glue, it's called decal solvent, and isn't required, but it does help decals conform to the surface. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iKhyi9Jol9ysmX0.html

If you don't want to mask and paint the deicer boots, the box art airplane (which is a real bomber and you can find photos of it) did not have them fitted. Dauntless Dottie did have them.
