@@kasdjkfghalksjdhg part of the reason for doing it is because a lot of the time those guys are so good that you have to give them whatever they want so they dont leave. Oilers gave McDavid all the $ + C to entice him to stay by making it clear that its his locker room to lead.

I was at Ryan Ellis' first game as a Spitfire. This was at the old Windsor Barn. I looked at my buddy and was pointing out how small he was and no more than 10 seconds later he laid an absolutely bone crunching hit that you could hear throughout the entire arena. Later that game he scored with a slapshot from the blueline and it was one of those super clean, almost silent slapshots and the place went nuts. He is pretty much a god here in this city.

it's cool how the sports bet ads went from only a 5 min friday segment for canadian viewers. to a segment for everyone. to a segment that happens every episode. to a 10 minute segment in every episode. to now a 15 minute segment. all while never addressing the issues people have with it.

I would pretty strongly disagree on the "Matthews has done everything he can in the playoffs" line. Auston is paid to score goals and put up points. In 6 years between the playoffs and play ins he is on a 36 goal 69 point pace. Comparing the leading scorer for the opposing team for each playoff round 2017 - Oshie 7 points 2018 Pastranak 13 points 2019 Marchand 9 points 2020 Atkinson 5 points 2021 Toffoli 5 points 2022 Kucherov 9 points. Is 48 points to Auston's 33. He only had more points than the opposing leading scorer ONCE and that was Cam atkinson..... He is the 3rd highest cap hit (and realistically a rounding difference from 2nd). Its not good enough

Just to be that guy, Connor McDavid stole the youngest captain title when he was announced as captain in 2016, being younger than Landeskog was by 20 days. Landeskog was 19 years, 286 days old at announcement, and McDavid was 19 years, 266 days at announcement.

In some fairness to the Flyers trading for Ellis, the risk they were taking trading for him was only getting 40-50 games out of him and the biggest piece they gave up for him was Nolan Patrick who's also set to miss another season and could very well be headed towards retirement himself. That's a pretty straightforward high-injury-risk, high-healthy-reward trade that plenty of teams have made over they years, and Fletcher failed in not preparing properly for those other 30-40 games. With that said, not even the most knowledgeable well prepared GM goes into a trade like that planning for the chance the guy plays 4 pretty damn good games and then likely having his career ended by a multi-level, basically impossible to fully treat injury that bubbled up after the physical but before training camp.

I'm not sure the Leafs being sooo close to wining a series, and not closing it out is a knock on the G.M. Sounds to me like the G.M. gave the tools to the coach who couldn't get the job done. Which is not to say "Keefe Sucks!"-- he doesn't. But following the internal logic of the 'can't close it out' hypothesis, isn't the coach the one that is under the microscope, not the G.M?

He had to deal with circumstances that nobody could predict just like everyone else did BUT the team has improved consistently, set franchise records and probably has the best facilities and people to assist in continue that improvement. For mathews best goals to go against his second career goal.. I would say the OT winner against Winnipeg. It was a 1 on 1 and he faked the shot then the dragged back and across to the backhand and roofed it, top right corner on Hellebuyck. I believe it was the next game against Winnipeg, after the leafs lost in a long shootout to them. (When Wheeler aggressively undid his chin strap as a celebration... lol)

JT is still playing at basically a pt a game. That's not a good argument on your part. I think if they free him up from being the battle guy to just let him do what he does, which is racking up points. Put a physical player on that line and you'll see two BIG lines.

37:00 You could say the exact same for giving a 2nd for Plekanec and the entire 2021 Trade Deadline was gross mismanagement by Dubas which resulted in only 3 picks that whole draft. Even with the Gio trade, they only got it so low due to Gio using his NTC to strong arm Seattle and still don’t have a 2nd this upcoming season for it.

Unless Wheeler & Scheifele are taken out of the top 6 (and they take the "A" from Scheifs); the change won't be enough. The Winnipeg Jets have been the text book example of under performance. They have so much talent on paper that never comes to fruition on the ice. The common denominator of the problems in the locker room (and on the ice) are Blake & Mark; if the Chevy and company can't figure out how to deal those two they need to move them out of the way so that the players who are willing to work have sufficient ice time to make the team productive.

If you're going to discuss the problems with the Jets, why reference an article written by a Toronto-based reporter that does not follow the team, likely only ever watches them when they play the Leafs, and includes incorrect information? For example, the Kane incident happened before Wheeler was made captain. And Copp didn't ask for a trade, he instead said he would have signed long term but the Jets couldn't afford/didn't want to pay him the contract he got in Detroit.

Exactly Copp wanted to stay here long term. He expected to stay here long term Summer 2021 cause he was house shopping and expected an extension but the Jets signed Dillon and Schmidt and so no contract was done. Leaf fans are just too salty against the Jets. It's hilarious.
