Former King Crimson member Adrian Belew, who also worked with Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, David Bowie and others sat down with me in Santa Monica, CA to discuss the 1982 King Crimson World Tour, his solo albums and topics of the day. Enjoy!

"I'm not metaphysically deep enough to determine if it's fate or not. I'm just happy to be here." How very Adrian Belew. What a humble guy. Great interview!

He's so freaking lovely. I don't know how these people come up with such wonderful melodies, where does it all come from. He's so modest and mellow, I'd love to meet him.

Geez... Adrian Belew's candor is soooo refreshing. He is careful here to not denigrate other types and industries of music; he maintains a positively grateful and humble sense of self-awareness that holds his ego in check. That is admirable, truly. I'll add that the interviewer has an enjoyable register throughout the interview. I enjoyed this interview over other interviews with Belew at this time.

good interview, you can tell the guy respected what KC was doing in those days. Compared to now, almost 40 years later, there is still nothing that really sounds like those string of albums Adrian Belew did with KC

I needed to hear this interview. The interview took place at a time when I started seriously listening to King Crimson. For me, it sheds a lot of light on the inner workings of King Crimson at that time. Thank you so much for posting this video.

Wow what a time capsule. This reminds me of volunteering at the local college television station where I reviewed current rock records and local pizza joints back about the same time this was recorded. What memories - Thanks for uploading!

I had a 74 Camaro in the early 80s, and an underdash 4-track pioneer/Craig 4-track player, that I converted to play at 7.5 IPS... people would ride an ignorant of what the deck was would say "oh wow! An 8-track?" I'd say yeah. It was in the car when I got it. I've never tried it. I think there's a few tapes in the glove box. One of them was a copy of lone rhino... that I copied at half speed on to ampex 406 studio master tape... the player was hooked to a quartet of Jensen triaxes, and dual JBL D140S, in a vented enclosure, that brought the 250-20hz into the car, with a duo of early mono block amps from craico, and the sound from Rhino would flood the car... like a pair of 300 watt headphones... like the sky cracked open and the future of music and fidelity had leaked into that pathetic muscle car... and I'd pull the tape out "yeah, sounds like ****!" Toss it out the window to shocked gasps... lolol.

Loving all of these interviews can't help but also think Wayne's World.. Love Crimson was thankful to see Belew and Crimson at the Majestic Theater in Detroit around '02-'03.. was right up front smoked some herb quickly. Belew broke a string that night he was amazing he said "Only in Detroit".. They also played HEROS that night Fripp was in pure form.. Before the show i was in the crowd and at one point i felt the hairs on my kneck stand up, i quickly turned and this man reached away from me and left the room, he was "Paul" a heroin shit artist dj whom has infected Hamtramck/Detroit for years and other places i am sure, the year or two before our mutual friend Chris Sears died of a heroin od and I found out this guy was with him and others..

He reminds me of Canadian musicians...( I am one ) We always speak quietly and modestly like we are just having a coffee, and yet there are so many things about what we are doing and how we do it that are really NOT NORMAL, but We talk it about like we talk about hockey..Lol... Are we sure Adrian isn't from like Weybourn, Saskatchewan or something?? Lol....a true Artist..

Adrian is from Kentucky and, as a Kentuckian myself, I can attest that most Kentuckians and other southerners share a similar nature to the one you've described. I believe that Adrian now lives in neighboring Tennessee. I'm sure that Adrian's southern sensibilities played a role in his long-standing relationship with Robert Fripp; both are at the top of their class yet always contentedly outside the mainstream scene and buzz. Both also share a sort of mid-country gentility and lack of self-importance. So on and so forth. But, yes, I'm sure Belew would do just fine in Canada!

@@austinwilkerson84 Greetings from Nova Scotia. I was a young fellow when I connected with Belew's vibe (Stop Making Sense) and I am still a fan all these years later. He was the first contemporary son of Kentucky that I was aware of, and he is a great cultural ambassador. Cheers!

remember they played on the "old grey whistle test" early 80's, couldn't believe what I was seeing or hearing, Belew me away, "Beat" is there best album, in my opinion, but live, 10 times better than studio.

Adrian is superb in their live performances. He’s got a wicked humor on stage. Musically, he’s brought a fourth dimension to KC mostly, if I dare say it, from his ‘talking head’...

What's the track playing in the intro and outro? Sounds totally classic hi-tech fusion/prog of the early 80's, very Holdsworth-ian. I started getting into these styles only recently, so help me out please. Thanx.
