I lived there for 15 years in the 80s 90s. Funny old place, the more you live there the more it grows on you, doesn't look to have changed much. It has a kind of a story that all the locals know, an in thing about all the characters and businesses there. I liked that. Lot's of Londoners live there. One of the problems there is it gets jammed with traffic on the outskirts at peak times, so you are effectively stuck for a couple of hours. I moved to Paignton in 2001, and I've just watched your video of there. It rains more in Paignton and you never get a full clear blue sky. In Bognor you get that crystal clear blue sky in the summer and the heat can really beat down. I dream about the place sometimes and in some ways I wish I was back there. It's flat, great for old people staggering about. Couple of interesting facts of my time there. I was there when the hurricane struck in 97 and I walked along by the Pier there the day after. All the windows were smashed in, bricks everywhere, total destruction. That pedestrian area when you came out of the arcade, half way up straight ahead was where the IRA planted one of their last bombs of their campaign in the 90s. I was in the exact spot 3 hours earlier shopping.

Defiantly even in the summer never have an issue parking right on the front. We stay at Riverside caravan park in bognor. been going since i was a kid going in a few weeks time with the family. By car its like 5 mins away. Everyone's just chilled out. I prefer that. Worthing is a decent shout when staying in bognor not to far.

Shame you missed Waterloo square. During the first world war horses were gathered together on the green prior to going to the front with the army as war horse's on the battlefield. They played a major roll as transport during the entire war.

I’ve just discovered your channel. Just wanted to thank you for bringing us on a walk through a place which I (from the other side of the globe) may never have the chance to visit. (A lifetime ago I went on a holiday to Bath) I love this series on the seaside towns. ❤Really beautiful scenery! The sights and sounds make me feel as if I was right there with you. Do keep it going. 👏🙏 By the way talking a bit is alright although if I’m being honest, just listening to the ambient sounds and reading your commentary was therapeutic for me. There’s too much talking in the other channels.😅

Hi, I am on the Pacific Coast, USA in Gearhart, Oregon. I like love the winter on the beach because of few tourists, brief nice weather breaks and a few very good restaurants and pubs that will be overwhelmed during the summer. If I have the opportunity to come to England it will be in Winter and will be at the towns and villages you walk through.

Pagham beach is quite lovely and closeby too; I love all the train carriage houses, so cool! You should check those out next time! I visit Bognor about 3-4 times a year; my friend lives there. Fun fact there’s a nightclub on that pier and a sports bar. Also instead of turning right at the end of the arcade, if you go straight down instead (towards the train station) there’s loads more shops and cafes. I’ve drank at most the pubs you passed haha. Right next to the theatre they also do a yearly food festival which I went to recently in August. They played live music there too. All in all, being a Londoner I love my little getaways to Bognor; particularly for the sunshine and taking a dip in the sea! I think it comes more to life in the summertime. Great vid :)

I just spent 3 months exploring the south coast from Weymouth to Isle of Sheppy..Bognor Regis was just so depressing...There are 5 sewerage outflows within a 3km stretch,all very visible as above ground,including one right next to the pier.. Residents say they are no longer in use,but check online and you'll find that they are emptied into the sea very early in the morning.
@rog3833
@rog3833 Жыл бұрын
Yes you are quite right. You can see the outflow empty often by the pier, simply by looking at the Pier Webcam.

This is the best walking tour you have done! I noticed you have sped up the footage, going through the arcade, for example! Good idea! Otherwise it takes too long. And the BEACH. Even showing the marks in the sand, left by sea creatures! And the reference to pebbles. I really didn't realise that pebbles beaches are a southern thing! You know why that is? Because gravity has probably made the pebbles slip downwards, to the south! Similar to when people wanting to get in the Guiness Book Of World Records, do so by walking the length if Britain! This was first started by a retired lady wanting something to achieve. In about 1960. Dr. Barbara Moore. She walked DOWN the island - from John O'Groats to Land's End Because going in that direction, meant it would be DOWNHILL? Speaking of another lady you mentioned, who was BORN in Bognor Regis, Cynthia Payne, am I the only person who can claim to have been sent an email VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY INVITATION by her? I printed it out and show my friends. (Even if it WAS a prank by one of my friends!)

May I suggest Folkestone, (Leas & Harbour,) Rye, Hythe Town & Military Canal, Little stone, Great stone and Dungeness, Thanks for all the pleasure of these walks!
