Boil Water Notifications - How to Properly Boil Water for Safe Drinking

Hello, I’m Kelly Hanes with Tarrant County Public Health.
If you are seeing this video, there is good chance a boil water notification has been issued in your area.
One of the most important aspects of any public notification is the health and safety of you and your family.
Boiling water for drinking, cooking and ice cubes is simple - but it is often done improperly.
There are two easy steps to follow.
First, slow rising bubbles are not enough. The bubbles need to be continuously rolling and falling over each other throughout the entire pot to ensure the proper destruction of all bacteria and harmful microbes.
Secondly, it is imperative the water is continuously rolling before starting your timer. All you need to do is wait two full minutes from the time is starts rolling, and your water will be ready.
Now that it’s clean, be sure to let it cool down before you take your first sip.

Boil for 15 minutes. To avoid those white particles that might sit at the bottom, draw water with a ladle and transfer into a brita type pitcher. There is nothing wrong with a man eating pizza with pineapple.

This video is misleading. You boil water for 15 minutes after boiling. And you cool down for 2 hours. You will notice salt like substance at the bottom of your container .

hi there's a problem some impurities are resting in stainless steel pot after boiling water.that sets at the bottom of the pot .how can I get rid of that residuals as they irritates throat while drinking water and also the water looks milkish when it moves or touches.

If it looks like fine white sand, it is probably lime. I use a ladel very slowly and transfer the liquid into my brita pitcher. I can usually get from about 400 tds (total dissolved solvents) to around 192 tds using this method. But I still wonder what the 192 tds's are. And will eventually get the water tested.

i have read that with only 1 minute after it starts to boil will be good enough , as if you leave it more time boiling it may loose minerals. is this true?

I use lid to help the water boil faster, just remove before it boils over. Plus I use a cloth to filter the water once it cools. Some cloths remove harmful ingredients that boiling misses.

I just boiled a pot of water and there was white powder at the bottom of the pot and all around the sides I'm guessing something is wrong with the water here to anybody ever seen white powder in the water after you boil it

The white power is likely the result of hard water or calcium in the water. You may want to contact your city water department to see if there have been any recent changes to their processes or a plumber to see if you need to do any maintenance to prevent damage to your hot water heater or other house systems.
