Great channel. A lot of people talk about celiac disease and allergy. But few people really thought of water maybe the problem. I am talking about heavily disinfected water. Which is claimed to be the safest drinking tap water. Rather than saying gluton is causing the problem, what about the drinking water is weakening our guts which made some of us allergy to gluten? Let's be open minded and explore further? There are discussions on why Europe has less gluten sensitivity issue than US. Talking about poo and energy. In my country, we have the cleanest tap water which you can drink directly from it without getting sick because of contamination. I boiled it nonetheless to remove chlorine. I am 45 this year and i had observed this. I have loose bowel all the time. And my body energy is low. Yes, my body is slightly weaker than average person. But when i travelled to neighbouring country, in fears of water contaminations. We usually drink bottled distilled water, as much of the travellers is doing. The finding is, i have normal bowel, firm and smooth. And i also experience higher body energy, less lethargic. Of course for my age and long term consuming water from my own country, i am not expecting the change of water to change my body energy from a 45 yo to a 16 yo kid. But i can feel that drinking bottled distilled water add less burden to my body. Not to forget, all dishes i consumed from my country are using the same source of water. Be it soup, rice and congee all contain the same source of water. So some of you may consider a change of drinking water.

My grandson, at age TEN, became plagued with KIDNEY STONES. This is a condition I always associated with the elderly, but I was wrong! Between ages 10-14, he had had 6 episodes. An account of one of the episodes that he had when he was 14 was so agonizing to hear about, my entire family, young and old, male and female, were literally in tears. This particular episode pertained to what he went through passing one of these stones at the hospital. Kidney stones are shaped like a “goat head sticker” and are made of calcium. Calcium deposits is that hard water white build up you get in your steam iron or vaporizer, requiring the use of DISTILLED WATER ONLY. Well, I’m just a Nana with no medical background, but I CAN add 2+2. I started keeping him stocked him up on the 2 1/2 gallon containers of distilled water and his own Yeti water cup/container, explained my theory to my daughter, and my grandson hasn’t had a kidney stone since. From age 15 to now 20. At his last checkup at 17 with his pediatric nephrologist my daughter explained the change we had made to the doctor and accredited it to the absence of attacks. His nephrologist was quite pleased with the information, did some research and started recommending distilled water to his patients. Yay Nana!

The mineral deal is a non issue. We get most of our minerals from the food we eat and the mineral content of drinking water varies so widely across the country that you can't be sure of any kind of consistency. The best upside to distilled is that it eliminates all chlorine and fluoride. My wife and I have been drinking nothing but distilled water for the last five years. I have chronic Kidney disease and have managed to avoid needing dialysis. When 1st diagnosed the Doc said I could go from 6 months to 2 years before needing dialysis.... I'm coming up on 5 years in July. I haven't passed any kidney stones either (they're no fun) since I've been on the distilled.

The ice speeds up the condensation because it cools the pan lid. This means, when the steam hits the lid, it cools down and condenses back into water! Steam/water vapour is just water that has risen above its boiling point, so when it cools, it turns back into water. Thanks for the video :)

This is absolutely fantastic. As a chemist, I’ve never seen a method as simple as this. The ice expedites the precipitation of the vapor. Excellent contraption with household products.

This is perfect for those with a Cpap machine. For those who don't know what this is, it's a machine with a face mask you put on when you go to bed. It helps with sleep apnea, basically it will keeo you breathing! These machines need distilled water to humidify the air you breathe, and you don't want bacteria in this water because it will go into your lungs. I make my own vinyl record cleaning solution ( cause I have sooo many albums !! ) and I need distilled water as part of the mix, but for some reason its impossible to buy anywhere here at the moment so I searched heaps of You Tube posts and yours was the by far the best explained and easiest to follow. Without being complicated it’s a law of thermodynamics. Heat (The steam) is drawn to the coldest surface to turn back into liquid water as condensation. This is why old windows suffer condensation in winter months, how dehumidifiers work (Sucks in wet air and it hits a chilled metal plate and collects in the tray as it chills into droplets) and also how heat exchanger systems work - drawing hot stuff towards the cold stuff 👍 You might not have understood but your method is spot on

About 2 1/2 years ago I purchased an electric distiller from Amazon for about $100. It was one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. I have been distilling a gallon of water a day since I got it for me and my family. I can't figure out why distillers like the one I bought aren't sold at stores like Walmart. My family thought I was crazy when I got it, now they don't want any other kind of water. If you want distilled water, do yourself a favor and purchase one, you can't get any easier than pouring in a gallon of contaminated water and turning on a switch and ending with pure distilled water.

Thanks for the idea! Did anyone mention that you should not use a "non stick pot" to boil water in? I would suggest only using "Stainless Steel" to avoid those particles from the pot painted with the toxic non stick pot.

The ice helps to cool the lid (lower temperature) which allows for the steam to quickly condense (turn from gas to liquid) into pure liquid water (i.e. distilled water). Thank you for sharing !

As someone in stem I know why the ice helps, but I haven’t been able to figure out how to make at home distilled water cause I’m thinking of lab specific glassware that I can’t get. thanks for the video! very pleasant tutorial. tip for the detoxers, ground up a maximum of 5 grams of ginger (5 grams a day max. also make sure it's fresh and moist), sqeeuze out an entire lemon and make it into a nice little slimy concocture. add the boiling distilled water and voila; you got yourself the mother of detox tea

There's 2 types of minerals , organic and inorganic. The former we get in food, the latter in the water. We do not need the inorganic ones in the water. They are the ones that cause stones in our organs. So distilled water is the safest to drink because it has been stripped of the bad minerals.

Interesting video. I can understand the benefits of drinking water with contaminants taken out. My problem with distilled and even dubious bottled water is it tastes not only bland, but dead to me. I was raised with deep well water, (it was locally called iron water), and the taste was heavenly to me as a kid. I am sure it had other minerals in it. In fact the military did a study about soldiers from around our area, because they found they had way above average good teeth and ended up concluding it was because of the local water. In the summer the deep well water was nice and cold. Also When I went back to visit my grandparents I could not get enough of that water and lost weight and water retention from drinking it a lot. Who knows, what the quality of that water is today. I miss it.

5:45 bsically the ice is damn cold it makes the lid cold, the steam that touches the lid will be condensed alot faster so it will turn into distilled water alot faster :D

Been distilling and drinking this water for at least 6 years along with my dogs. If people saw what horrific-ness was left in that unit on a weekly basis would have you stop drinking tap water. Started collecting rain water.. then purifying through a zero water system then distilling. My distiller stays clean. Took us almost a year to detox from tap water.. enjoy!

I’m a naturopath doctor and I always recommend distilled water especially for certain people who’s mineral content is very high in the body because it does leach out those excess minerals however for people who need minerals they should be getting those from their food sources not necessarily from their water so even if someone drinks distilled water for a prolonged period of time they shouldn’t feel like they’re missing out on minerals unless they are simply not getting those in their food choices

My holistic doctor as well as my teacher who is studying to be a doctor says that if you put a pinch of himalayan salt in your glass it puts all the minerals in it that you need. In fact even more than other types of water. You can order the mineral water testing kit off of Amazon to prove the point it is what they used to show us. And because this is so you can drink this water on a daily basis. They also say this water is so good because it has pulling agents in it. Now for you who think oh no salt, well this salt is good for you. It is not iodized salt which is not good for you. Research and find out for yourself. Also another very important note: when you drink a lot of water you wash out the salt out your body that you need because our bodies do need salt, but so by drinking distilled water with some himalayan salt you are being benefited for doing so.

Just saw a video from a current and credible source about how we need zero minerals from water but all we need come from plant sources =) Of course pharma would rather we drink fluoridated, chlorinated, water even maybe from "toilet to tap" =O This distilled is the way to go. Bottoms up !

Thanks for this demo. I don't know why I didn't relate it to what I already learned long ago while thinking about 'prepping survival' tactics. This would be the same process if you did not have anything other than salt water. Just boil the salt water and collect that condensation to have drinking water. The salt stays in the bottom of the boiling pot and salt and mineral free water is collected. I live in an extremely remote location and a lot of items are not available for purchase in our tiny store or even online for long periods. I was without cornstarch for about 6 months! Due to the increase of these kinds of DIY videos, I have learned to make so many things from scratch and most of them are ridiculously simple, like turning granulated sugar into powdered confectioner's sugar.

I would suggest rinsing out storage containers with distilled water first then storing distilled water in them to assure purity since contamination can occur if there is residue left in containers from previous processes such as washing with soaps or detergent. Great video. Thank you. This is like a version of a solar still that you might use in the dessert in a survival situation using a sheet of plastic, a hole and a vessel to catch the water in. Obviously this version is much faster. The ice makes the top colder so as the steam hits it. It turns back into water droplets faster. Great work well done.

Thanks for the video. I wanted to learn about this for 2 reasons: 1. I make soap. Distilled water is needed as an ingredient, & also it works way better than hard tap water for removing the soap left behind on the containers & utensils used in the process. 2. To water my succulents. They are supposed to do better with less alkalinity from the minerals in the hard water.

Thanks for this helpful video. My personal opinion is if I had to do this for clean drinking water, I could add a little sea salt or pink Himalayan salt to decrease the pull of minerals from the body that can occur with drinking too much distilled water. Those natural salts are loaded with good minerals. (I might add a little potassium and magnesium powder too). I wouldn’t do this with regular table salt though. 😉👍

Awesome video! I am going to use the distilled water for homemade disinfectant with at least 70% isopropyl alcohol, a bit of hydrogen peroxide, and a lemon oil drops. Btw, the ice in the lid helps the vapors drop down in temperature to reach the dew point quicker, making vapors to condense. If I may share, things in the world exist in three states: solid (s), liquid/aqueous (aq), and gas/gaseous (g). Water boils, turns liquid (aq) into vapors (g). The steam/vapors are very light, rising to the top, hitting the lid. The ice on the lid makes the lid colder than the steam, which helps to drops the temperature of the steam to reach the condensation/dew point. That's the point where steam (g) turns back into water drops (aq) state. The steam turned into condensation then gets heavy, drops to the container in the pot.

I do this and store it in ball jars, in fact I actually make it drip directly into the ball jar, it works perfectly because the pots handle fits inside the jar perfectly. Win-win, everything gets sterilized. I use it to rinse the Ph tester and storage is easy

More uses for distilled water: Fish tank water Cleaning medical devices, baby bottle warmers, coffee pots, humidifiers, etc I have a 500 gallon fish tank and have always been told to top off the water with distilled water. About 9 months ago there was NO distilled water to be found. All stores were out of distilled water. This video is great knowledge because this may happen again soon

Takes a long time. Will be good to do in the winter for adding humidity to the air from the steam that escapes around the upside down lid. It’s currently 95% humidity here. I can see why people pay for reverse osmosis or distilled water, but it’s almost always in plastic containers. This is seemingly cheaper but is it when you factor in the energy use. Lots of factors to weigh. I’ve been having an upset stomach, troubles with digestion so I’m definitely going to try distilled water however I end up obtaining it.

Great video! Explanation for putting ice : the ice helps to absorb heat from the water vapour faster and so the steam condenses faster into water.. But the ice should not be put after the water starts boiling as it will quickly reduce the temp of the glass and it may crack.. To increase your yield u might also use a metallic lid on top, it will help transfer the heat to the ice faster and u will get more distilled water.

Also, Do not put the lid on the pot until the water has started boiling for a bit. That will allow anything with a boiling point lower than water to escape. The other mistake is that he did not drive to Target and have them load up the trunk of his car with distilled water. Only in America can a guy like this have such a nice kitchen and his own business. Good for him.

Thermal distillation. It condenses the steam to make the purified water drip into the bowl. You can do this to stream/creek/salt water as well, as a survival tactic (using whatever you have on hand)to condense the steam so it drips clean drinking water in a container.

This is a cool technique for those who maybe live somewhere where purchasing distilled water might be difficult or inconvenient! I started to try this for myself though, and quickly came to conclusion that for the amount of time I would have to run my stove to do this, I'm probably not saving any money vs just buying distilled water for $1 a gallon from the supermarket, lol.

When liquid water gains enough energy (from the stove's heat source) it becomes gas (vapor/steam). The colder the lid, the faster the vapor will give off that gained energy to become liquid again & so drip down into the bowl.

Thank you! I used your method but with a slow cooker / crock pot and it worked very well. It produced more distilled water than the stovetop trial but that may be due to a better seal between the crock pot and upside-down cover.

I've been drinking distilled water for 2 years now. I LOVE IT! can't beat that clean fresh taste when it's ice cold! I've been using it for all my water needs. I can't take minerals or vitamins in pill form. It makes my intestines hurt. All ways has. But...the bottoms of my feet are baby soft. No more nasty thick calusy stuff on my feet. I feel way more refreshed. The best way to get water into your body is by eating high water content food. Water melon, strawberries and the like. Maybe I should try pedialyte to give me minerals. The distilled water gets toxins out of your body like flouride. I can't believe that is in city water. That is rat poison! I would think distilled water would be good for your organs. Two points: 1) You cannot start collecting your steam/water until you know it has reached the proper temperature. Then you have to stop collecting it if it goes above it. That temperature is 100C or 212F at sea level. Doing it the way it is shown in the video does not guarantee that the water will be pure. Various compounds have various boiling points as so they will evaporate at those temperatures. 2) Don't put ice on a glass lid after it has already heated up. Thermal shock could easily crack that glass. Those 2 pints aside, this is a very ingenious method. Much easier than making a still.

I lived in a small East Texas town with less than 18,000 people. I moved to a big city of Dallas, Tx. My daughter had been complaining to me for several years that her hair was falling out (she's lived in Dallas now for over a decade, from living in small towns). Well, I had to move to Dallas and after a year or more, I started losing my hair. I am convinced it's due to some chemical in the water. Coincidence? Maybe, but I know lot's of women losing their hair these days. Something to think about.

Great video for DIY distilling. I have bought a water distiller a year ago and I love drinking the pure water but I add a couple of pinches of Himalayan sea salt to the water to add some minerals back to the water and it improves the taste too

This is a very simple yet elegant solution - why didn’t I think of that! I bought 10 litres of spring water which I will never use and want to convert into distilled water so I can use it in my iron. I suppose I could drink it but tap water is fine for drinking.

To restore the trace minerals your body needs , simply add half a teaspoon of Himalayan salt to the distilled water per gallon. I paid $3.99 for a 3.5 lb bag of Himalayan salt. The change in taste of the water is not that bad.
