I have wondered where you all were, and how you were doing. Thank you for the things people need to know before getting goats. The few comments I've shared with other goat raisers, they ignored and are still having trouble and getting so frustrated they nearly hate having a goat on their farm.

I'm in the process of replacing the old 4 strand barbwire my great-grandfather and grandfather put up for cattle over 60 years ago with sheep and goat wire. Got 3000 ft to do to refence the property. My goal is to have it refenced by next summer, but we'll see as I'm mostly doing it alone. I can't wait to get everything refenced, get a 20x30 carport to turn into a barn from lumber my dad and I will mill from the property. Watching you, Arms Family, and Hidden Heights, has really given me so much information on what to do with Kiko goats when I am ready for them! I'll definitely be reaching out to get my first does hopefully after next kidding season.

I raise registered Alpine dairy goats. I went through field fencing. Since I raise dairy goats, they have to be disbuded or polled, they rarely get their head stuck in the fence but they work the fence by rubbing their bodies on the fence and break the wires. Then I tried welded wire and they broke the fence, electric fence they tested the fence and if the wire got grounded out, they busted the wire. I ended up finding no climb horse fence and they couldn't break it. My Alpines can almost jump 5 feet, in fact I have had some that can clear 5 feet. I'm happy you're cancer free. That was a long hard journey for you. God Bless you.

Hi Josh! I have been wondering how you are doing. I am happy to hear you scans are still clean. And all the tips are good information to have. I don't currently have goats, even as pets, but you never know what the future will hold, and I like to be prepared. Happy New Year, and I hope you have a great weekend! 💖💖💖

Glad you're feeling better! My own mother just beat cancer this year, too, so we understand the struggle. I am planning on getting 3 or 4 Kiko does when we finally found a house on a bit of land, and I do have one question: is it common for people to stud their bucks out for a fee? Because with that few does I don't see the point in keeping a buck and a companion wether if I can just send them on a date at another farm for cheaper than it would cost to house two extra goats all year.

I'm very happy to see you back to making videos! My girls got bred a little early - with 3 males, it wasn't hard for one of them to get out. I did sell BT Chocolate Flash and both of his sons. He was knocking me down hard. I have decided to keep my next herd sire until he is no more than 2 years old. My three winter kidding does gave me 5 kids: 2 sets of twins and a single. Two of them were first-timers and did well. The other goats aren't quite old enough - second generation! Chocolate and his sons threw some great colors, and I hope they grow into better goats than a couple of my first kids from my pre- bred girls who had not been bred by Chocolate Flash. Take care and Happy New Year to your whole family.

@@BoisDArcKikosThanks brother. We don’t have them yet. But looking to start as a hobby farm. Only want 3 or 4 as “pets” on a 4 acre area. Might fence off just an acre or 1/2 acre for them though. Also considering Nigerian Dwarfs since we’re really not looking for meat or even dairy but just pets. But I like that Kikos seem more hardy. We’re in CA so don’t have to worry much about cold. @BoisDArcKikos
@BoisDArcKikos 8 күн бұрын
We have around 60 nannies and after buying feed/hay during the year we always make a profit with our goats. We sell registered & commercial stock so price varies. We take our bucklings to the meat market every year & that covers our annual feed/hay bill. We sale off the farm for reproduction females and a few potential herdsires. We run our goats on 70acres.

Is there any truth to the claim that you can't raise goats in South Texas? We're in Victoria County, it's all cattle down here. Our place is coastal with a decent amount of river bottom on the Guadalupe river. Was talking about regen farming with a friend last night and the idea of multi-species grazing came up (cattle+goats or sheep). My friend's son, who is also a rancher and vet, has told him that he considered it too but goats die in this part of the country? To be fair, he wasn't able to give me any additional details but it sounded like a worming parasite problem. I need to get additional details but has anyone here heard of this? I have to admit, there really aren't any goat ranches this far south. . . they're mostly in the semi-arid part of Central Texas. Main predator down here is Coyote.
@BoisDArcKikos
@BoisDArcKikos 2 ай бұрын
Yes I have sold a few to that region down by San Antonio,Fredicksburg, Beaumont, & Victoria. They have done well. Kikos are a pretty hardy goat and work well in the brush. You will need protection for sure like a good LGD.

@@HoneyHollowHomestead i have been in dairy cattle all my life, 112 milking registered Holsteins in 1970's and 80's. Expanded in 90's to 200 milking and in 2004-5 to 750 milking. Dad retired over a year ago and dairy cattle sold, beefers bought by 2 brothers. I had done the vet tech tasks-aseptic milk samples, striking bi or tri plates, reading the growth on the media, deciding drug therapy according to protocol set up by vet clinic, gave imm, im, iv, sq, boe, oral, and intrauterine treatments. Had milked my grammy's goats in 80's when she had a broken arm, had a couple goats in 2011 (they were like pets-what a mistake), neice and sis-in-law have some milking breed goats. I am looking at meat goats and hair sheep-hope to have permanent fencing up and learn how to move temporary fencing by mid summer. Worked at CAFO pig operation for 18 months. Had over 200 free-range chickens and a few turkeys around 2011. I enjoy the harvesting process, just not on cold days. Fingers don't work well when too cold. Have a blessed day!

@@user-kv2pt4lu9y Just making sure you aren't an "arm chair farmer". My goats are free ranged (most people can not do what I do), mostly. Still setting up control systems. Taking longer than expected because life keeps getting in the way. I don't use drugs often, but when it's needed it's NEEDED quickly.
