Literally the best part is that the receipt, which for several episodes and part of this one was built up to be what causes the reveal, has absolutely jack shit to do with the reveal.

It's a literary device- essentially its the introduction of an item or concept early in a narrative that's not utilized later in the story. It can be used successfully as a red herring, or used unsuccessfully as extraneous detail.

Actually the entire theorem of Chekhov's gun is that every element in a story MUST be utilized. In this case the receipt is simply a red herring

So does this happen to be a reference to how Jesse Pinkman figured out that Walter White poisoned that kid? I remembered the reasoning being kind of convoluted (something about how the ricin was not actually the cause even though seeing it missing from the cigarettes prompted him to think so while he never found WW's lily of the valley and whatnot).
@zekeiwa5837
@zekeiwa5837 4 жыл бұрын
It wasn't convoluted. Saul Goodman's bodyguard took Jesse's weed so he wouldn't be high when the disappearer found him. When he finds his weed is missing he remembers when the ricin disappeared right after being touched by the same guy, so he realizes the weed disappearing was Walt's plan, and the kid was confirmed to not be poisoned by Gus Fring.

Unpopular opinion: It wasn't completely Bojack's fault. While Todd ultimately did find the videogame because of BJ, BJ didn't force him to get it and even encouraged him not to take it. Even if the whole plan had been like it was and he found the videogame, Todd could've had self-control and either not bought it or played only a little. Bojack didn't force him to do anything. He could've manipulated Todd all he wanted, but ultimately Todd still made the final decision. The "it's you" doesn't apply only to Bojack.
@finnhyasebee889
@finnhyasebee889 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't agree. It was quite obvious that Todd is so obsessed with this video game, that he can't even control himself when he gets his hands on it. Bojack new that and that was the reason he bought it. He didn't continue pushing Todd further because it was completely unnecessary. Bojack's plan worked perfectly without it. So yeah, plan worked, opera was ruined, and it's completely Bojack's fault. Imo :)
@sofialozano4031
@sofialozano4031 2 жыл бұрын
@@finnhyasebee889 it worked perfectly because Todd ultimately still chose to play the game. Had he had more self control it wouldn’t have worked. BJ is not innocent, but you can’t act like Todd is a 2 year old who didn’t know what his obsession could do to him. He knew better and could’ve acted better.

@finnhyasebee889 2 жыл бұрын
@@sofialozano4031 Yeah, I guess you have a point here. I just really don't like it when people are trying to justify Bojack and his doings. I mean, knowing Todd, he probably knew how he would react, making it the best way to keep Todd for himself. What I'm trying to say is addiction isn't something you control so easy, so even though Todd could've at least try to do something to stay away, Bojack literally pushed an addict to their temptation, if you get what I mean. But when I was rereading your comment I saw that "completely" word and calmed down, so...Yeah
