Sorry that you didn't show a bit more, especially dealing with the bearing and putting it back together. This was going to be the first knife I was going to take apart but changed my mind after seeing this video..I'm glade I had someone else do it so the Ti scales could be anodized. Thanks.

Very nice job on the video. I'm in the market for a nice gentlemen folder and the 2 I've narrowed it down to are the Kwaiken and the Urban Trapper. I'm guessing the Urban Trapper uses a similar bearing set up? I know its IKBS, but like you've experienced, one of your Bokers has 12 bearing balls per side and the other 20. So this video certainly give me an idea as to what I'm in for with disassembling my first IKBS equipped folder. I'm mostly a Kershaw guy, and know the internals of those quite well. And like you, as soon as I get a new knife, I open it up, re-oil/re-grease it, a dab of blue Loctite on the pivot screw and good to go. Thanks again for the great video.....

Cool video. I didn't know they switched to Torx screws for the liners on the Ti version. My G-10 version has Phillips screws inside and one of the came partially stripped from the factory. Torn is an upgrade IMO.

Yeah for sure, the phillips screws on mine started to strip too. Boker really stepped up their game on the TI version.

Thank you for such a helpful video!! Just had a couple of questions for you: Did you remove all the ball bearings and re-grease? If your greasing the area where the ball bearings are did you apply an oil or lubricant to help with deployment? other than the sentry grease are there any other products you recommend? Thank you very much!! Awesome videos!!
@TheWeaversofEternity
@TheWeaversofEternity 8 жыл бұрын
+deegz Yes, I removed them and regreased them. I applied grease to the bearings and the area where the bearings sit. It helps with reassembly as the grease kinda holds the bearings in place. You can use Chris Reeve fluorinated grease, but that's a bit pricier. There is also nano oil, but that's a bit too thin for bearings. Sentry solutions is pretty good for these bearing systems.

Thanks a lot for the advice! Ill be taking the knife apart in the next week or so and your video is extremely helpful. Ill keep in touch just to let you and some of the viewers know if I come across any issues. Cheers!!

Hey guy got a question for you?? Do you work on other peoples knives??? Did you do the flipper mod on the micarta one yourself or did you buy it that way??? I would like to get a Kwaiken but I like the micarta one more than the TI one. Didn't know if I bought one if you could do the mod for me... Let me know..

Scott Houlton I don't do knife modding. I had the micarta one done for me by Alexander Dietz a long time ago. I'm not sure if he does mods anymore.

Any machinist would be able to modify the scales and liners to be just like the updated kwaiken, aka flipper mod, As a knife aficionado/machinist I wouldn't charge no more than $40 to disassemble , new grease ( real , quality grease, not the cheapest thing a manufacturing engineer could source). I always use kitagowa chuck grease ( never dries up, high wear protection, japanese grease) And modify the liners and scales to the flipper mod. For 20$ extra a 2000 grit finish on the blade, hand sanded, not polished, so no heat is transferred effecting heat treatment and factory hardness... $20 more , you get a 2000 grit mirror finish on the scales, $40 more, and I will heat anodize the scales to a custom unique,made for you kwaiken, or any knife you love, and want to make your own. Multiple services can be done, jimping added on the flipper can make it flip insanely fast... File work on scales lighten the overall weight and add another custom touch, happy spending, -Dave

Tip for everyone after spending 2hrs trying to put it back together. I got sand in mine and never was the same again. Took it to the beach since it's VG-10. Beautiful knife, but I will never use this knife for anything outdoors again, nor will I buy another IKBS knife again. It is very difficult to align the bearings on both sides, with the lock bar pushing on the blade. Any movement will misalign the bearings out of the channel. Was finally able to do it with 3 layers vertically and aligning the main D shaped pivot screw Just get an ultrasonic cleaner or something. Not worth my 2hrs

Mine was tightened so tight i could not move it. Tried to force it and stripped it like a knucklhead. Its so sticky and grimy inside from bokers grease it is beyond using anymore. Nice looking fixed blade now i guess.

I love the smoothness of ikbs but it is awful to take apart.
@TheWeaversofEternity
@TheWeaversofEternity 10 жыл бұрын
I totally agree! IKBS is definitely one of the smoothest pivot systems. Just a headache to take apart. I've seen a version of IKBS with 2 rows of bearings around the pivot, which would be even more insane to deal with!
