Try "kehna hi kya" by K.S.Chitra. Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle are the ultimate, I will repeat it on a loop till I die, but the problem remains that their recordings do not have the same great modern sound engineering magic, due to the lack of technology in those days(which is an unfair disadvantage). I think I have shared earlier too, check out "Jab Jab Tujhe Bhulaya" from the movie "Jahanaara". It is a freaking masterpiece. If I could tell you to listen to one song to understand how good they were, this song is it, dude, period. Then, coming back to "Kehna hi Kya"... "Kehna Hi Kya" is from the 90's but it sounds quite modern and it is a composition by A.R. Rahman. The vocals are heavenly. They will make you cry.

Listen to South Indian singers KJ Yesudas, SPB, Hariharan, KS Chitra, S. Janaki. They are all legends. In Hindi, listen to Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Asha Bhosle, Kishore Kumar, Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu all are legends.

What you hear generally in the mainstream media today in India is mix of pop and Indian classical. But the underlying music still comes from the Indian classical music which is thousands of years old. The structure of it is incomparable to any type of music. And all the Indian singers would have at least 5-15 years. And they go thru every possible combinations of sounds called 'Ragas'. In fact so is everything that is related with ancient Indian civilization or so called Vedic Civilization. Its an ocean of information about anything you can imagine and more. Love from India ♥

Among Indian male singers you should listen to Shaan, Sonu Nigam & K.K.(recently he passed away, may his soul find peace). They are the legendary trio of Indian music. They are the ones who made revolution and completely reconstructed the Indian music genres by their singing. Their songs were much ahead of their time and an entire generation grew up listening their songs.

They haven't done a duet as shreya's virsion released on 2007 .Arijit's virsion released this year. Both virsions are made for different movies. 2nd movie is the sequel of the 1st one
