Dear AVE, I have found the same alignment issue with the older Makita impact drivers that were truly used and abused. I found that the indent where the back bearing goes to have been worn out too. I fixed the issue with some tape around the back bearing. The motor issue was not the case for the impact driver because the motor was brushed. Overall my makita tools have been super used and the only problem I have ever was this misalignment. Thank you for the great content! Keep it coming!

You are such a good person for paying your dog back for his unconditional love and loyalty, I'm a little liquored up at present but it brings up memories of my dog, if there was anything we could have done for him we would have but he was 16, smaller dog, we had the vet come to house, he was on my lap (I was certainly his favorite person and spent the most time with him) gave him a couple pieces of cheese to distract him from the first shot he was getting in rear, one to really relax him, almost knock him out and feel warm and fuzzy inside. My mom started crying over the fact that we could never give him anything tasty to eat besides his treats, we had the best dog ever, Jake, he had a liver shunt so it was really important to give him specific proper diet, I thought it was little cruel so I would always sneak him a little something tasty, I wouldn't expect you'd be happy eating the same thing for every meal of your life! If he got too much protein he'd get really sick, something to do with his liver issue, they didn't think he'd live past a year when he was diagnosed when we were looking to get him fixed, partly because of that he got to keep his balls and he lived to older than most dogs did, he would have lived longer but it wasn't a good life anymore, he was almost completely blind and deaf, he had arthritis and was limping for awhile until we got him meds, that fixed him up for awhile but he was still slow in his old age, had ramps to all of his favorite spots in the house because he couldn't jump anymore, he was still the most loving dog. Our whole family poured all the love we could muster into him, especially the day the vets came over, I think he had a really good life, nobody ever treated him with anger or contempt and he was such a happy guy. I felt really bad about it but he was in pain I think and he was just too tough and caring to make a big deal over it. Anyways I just wanted to salute you, your dog looks like a great friend.

My parents have a lab who had a similar surgery. I saw pictures of his intestines. They were blocked by some mass. At the spot of blockage the intestine was swollen to 3 times it’s size and went from red color to black at the blocked area. They removed a part of it, stitched him up, and he lived for many more years until just a few months ago. Good pup. Good on you for not giving up on him

My Makita is still to this day after 4 years flawless in performance after persistent heavy abuse. Where I worked we bought 5000 drills at a time. The DeWalts we tossed more than half in the first 6 months, over 90% by the end of the first year. We then bought 5000 Milwaukee drills, they did better mostly loosing their chucks, motors or triggers within a year and a half. We then got 5000 Makita LXT hammer drills, we replaced only 13% in the first year and a half, a long term contract was signed. I still have mine and abuse it today with it's original batteries, still flawless. With these sorts of statistics in my history, it's unlikely I'll get anything else. I did give Portercrapple a try, threw the drill and a rock, pissed me off, worst ever, even Harbor Freight is ten times the drill.
@vaguincolombia5 жыл бұрын
Great information, what drills were those?, when was the dewalts drills bought? when was the milwaukee drills bought? when was the makita drills bought?, because i have been following dewalt, milwakee and makita and about 10 years ago makita was the best milwakee was in the middle and dewalt was the last one in terms in quality, nowdays makitas quality has declined, dewalt has improved so much so id say makita and dewalt are almost even, their period of warranty confirms it, dewalt gives 3 years of warranty, makita just 1 year and milwaukee after being bought by the chinese it went downhill. thank you in advance for your answer, id appreciate it

My guess is the bearing misalignment was the cause, not the symptom, of that missing lamination. Imagine how fast that thing is going at top speed, and then that magnetic core smacks into it. Just think if that back piece gets tweaked even a little; All that plastique can't hold that rotor in EXACTLY the right place.
@ZenMuff1n6 жыл бұрын
Plastic is not just decoration for many generations of these machines now. It's a part that is made as precise as arbors or gearboxes.

Don't those motors spin at 35,000 rpms when fully driven? To produce what, like 1800? 20:1-ish? At its lowest, it's motor is still spinning upwards of 200 rpms. Did the frequency of the knocking seem consistent with 200 whacks per minute?
@bigdbaldydom6 жыл бұрын
mine got out of alignment after I dropped it. sounded whiny and didn't smell good. loosened the two screws on the back and found that the back plate has to be positioned perfectly and screws tightened up. been fine ever since. seems the clearance between stator and armature is tiny and the back plate doesn't locate accurately and firmly enough.
@GregorShapiro6 жыл бұрын
bigdbaldydom : Of course they try to make the clearance between stator and rotor as tight as possible to get as much torque as possible from the motor.
@allesklarklaus1476 жыл бұрын
MikeCookie1973 The knocking likely was the motor rotor sticking to the outer laminations and getting unstuck again, sorta vibrating along.

it is possible that a larger chunk of material, got in while the motor was spinning and jammed between a lamination and the magnet of the rotor, it is a open motor with very little as far as screening and if its been cutting bricks or something really hard, it might do that.

I dropped my old makita drill 40ft onto concrete from a telephone pole. It did something very similar. I ended up loosening the pack cover and it was useable again. There was a crack through the plastic case. I used it to drill 3/4" 18" auger bits for about two years after before I finally dropped it again. This time the old fonzerelia didn't work. It was the old style with the three speed gear box. For the shit I put that drill through, I'd buy another in a heart beat. It was probably 3 years old when I dropped it, I ran her hard and wet for about 5 years total. It was a good drill.

Glad to see Buddy is doing alright! I've worked in the veterinary field for a few years now and a flipped stomach can turn out terribly. Thankfully I've never seen one recur after that surgery is done. I don't know if they explained what they do to prevent it from reoccurring but the surgery is interesting in how simple it is. They cut through to the tissue layer around the stomach and make an incision. Then they suture that tissue to the abdominal wall and the body naturally heals itself and creates basically a biological weld and keeps the stomach in place. Pretty neat stuff. Wishing Buddy a speedy recovery!

Bloat is no joke. It becomes more likely as dogs age, and it comes from a) a buildup of gas, and b) being rambunctious after eating. It's also more likely in dogs that have a skinny midsection and deeper chest, so keep an eye on your dalmatians, poodles, and greyhounds.
