Asia, the mistress he's referring to is the stage. "She calls me to stand in her spotlight again." When he says he won't be alone he means he'll be with all the fans at his concert.

Exactly. And it's "I won't be alone, but it don't mean I'm not lonely" and not "I'm lonely but not alone" (There's a difference between "There's people here, but I'm thinkin about and missing you" and "I'm missing you, but I'll have me some company". He means the first.) JBJ and his amazing wife are a lovely couple of a long standing...

One of the best power ballads ever!! He wrote this song to his wife, packed full of metaphors. The blonde in his bed is his favorite guitar. Some say it's because perhaps he fell asleep while practicing. "The bird on the wire" is in reference to his plane finally taking him back home to her. He talks about the kings ransom in dimes he'd give each night to see through the pay phone. He's plugging so many dimes into the pay phone to talk to her but he'd give all of that to just see her. And of course there's the reference to his mistress calling him to stand in her spotlight again meaning the stage. He longs to lay her down in a beautiful, cozy, romantic bed of roses, but all the while he's sleeping in a bed of nails. The pain of having to sleep alone so far away from her. It's a gorgeous love song when you understand all those metaphors!! Great reaction, absolutely love this song!!!

Bird on a wire is what they used to call a landline phone call cause the birds sit on the telephone wires that stretch out between posts .you can see it in Dumbo.there's also a comedy film with Goldie hawn and Mel Gibson called bird on a wire.

I absolutely love Jon's vocals in this song. He wrote this song for his wife. The blonde in his bed is a guitar. The bed of nails represents the torture of being away from his wife while touring. The mistress is the stage because it takes him away from home. He's not alone because the band and fans are there. Although, I haven't figured out why he would have said yes to the bartender giving him the eye if he weren't laughing so hard at her wig being crooked. 😂 Great reaction, y'all.

I think that whole bridge in the song is a joke. Being that he was at a bar with friends and bandmates. That’s the way I always took that line. Kind of like joking amongst friends. Like this person was so ridiculous with the wig, “yeah, I might have said yes.”

Asia, when he says "his mistress". He's referring to the spotlight of the stage. Not actually another woman. His mistress is his career, because it takes him away from the woman he loves. The bed of nails, is because that's how it feels sleeping apart from her. 😊

Asia, BJ… I’ve been a Bon Jovi fan since 1989 & have seen them in concert 11 times. Whenever this song began playing, the roar that would erupt from the fans was beyond deafening 🎸🌹🎸. This is one of their most iconic songs & Richie Sambora’s guitar solos in it are “legendary with a capital L” 👍😁🎸. You simply can’t go wrong with ANY Bon Jovi song from any time period. You can’t go wrong with Bon Jovi. They are amazing. I’ve seen them in concert so many times and if you have the opportunity I highly recommend it. Jon always made his way through the crowd. The best concerts I’ve been to were Bon Jovi.

I love your reactions. The two of you just play off each other so well. This may be my favorite Bon Jovi song. The vocals and message are just so beautiful. When you first hear the word "mistress" of course your mind takes you to it meaning another woman, but when you really listen to the words, you can tell it really refers to touring/the stage. The love story of Jon and his wife is pretty special, especially considering how long he has been in the rock and roll spotlight.

This is my fave bon jovi song, like people have said he wrote this about how much he missed his wife , and the mistress is his career, l think you should listen to it with the lyrics and then it becomes clear what a beautiful song it is.

I love seeing Jon so dang young. He is just as pretty, only he is now a silver fox. He has JBJ Soul Kitchen's where they serve the needy. Amazing man & great band. Married for almost 35 years. Love this band. Have you heard 'Livin' on a prayer', 'Wanted dead or alive', 'You give love a bad name' or 'It's my life'? All great tunes.

There are so many Bon Jovi songs that Jon wrote with his wife in mind and this is no exception. The song is with metaphors and not everything is what it seems. The mistress is another show and even though he's with thousands of people it doesn't mean hes not lonely. He wishes he was with her but the show must go on. Life of a rockstar. Let me help with the mistress part. In the line, "While my mistress she calls me to stand in her spotlight again," the "mistress" is the music industry and the live stage. The "spotlight" is the media. He calls music his "mistress" to show that it's a thrill, but something that perhaps isn't going to do him any good.

He's laying on a bed of nails cause he's laying alone without his love(his wife) A blonde woman fan offered her self to him he wavered for a second them laughed so much he thought he died.cause he wouldn't cheat on his love his wife. Not every guy is a dog asia.if you listen to it again knowing this maybe you'll get how much he loves his wife and lovely this song is. These lyrics are so well constructed.beautifully descripted and sung with great passion and emotion.

They created the backdrop by using a helicopter and dropping the guitar player and piano player on top the mountain. Then when filming wrapped up the pilot said it had gotten too windy to get close to pick them up, they may have to repel down the mountain. Richie (guitar player) said screw that.... so the pilot made it happen. Lol

Jon once said he's a "recovering Catholic." The line "I want to be just as close as, the Holy Ghost is," refers to his upbringing in Catholic school. At school dances you weren't allowed to get too close to your partner. You needed to leave room for the Holy Ghost.

Some of the scenes for this video were probably influenced (or vice versa) by the Cinderella video "Don't Know What You Got ('Til It's Gone" Please a review for that video/song. Cinderella and Skid Row were two bands that Jon Bon Jovi really helped early in their careers.

It's all a metaphor. His mistress is the stage and touring, and the blonde that gives him nightmares is a fender stratocaster with a blonde finish (his favorite). Jon Bon Jovi has been with the same woman since high school.
