I've had my P127 since mid-spring of last year. Several things I've noted: 1 - I also don't like the rod tip protectors. their edge shape tends to cause hang ups. and even though I reshaped them to get rid of that, like you, I quickly noticed that if you run anything on your sidetracks, it causes interference issues, so if I even use those horizontal stagers, the rod tips stick outside of the kayak protectors. 2 - The factory scupper plugs are janky. The slightest bump from your feet will cause them to break seal and let plenty of water in. I make my own with rubber stoppers and paracord, with a stainless washer on top, as a stop. 100 percent foolproof. 3 - Seem no matter how much I adjust the tension on the rudder spring in air, it DOES still deploys slowly, in water, like you noted. some sanding of the sides may be in order. And don't be surprised if the rope comes lose in the cleat, when transporting. 3 - Getting the second seat screw aligned and run in becomes a PITA, over time. I don't know if there is frame flex involved or what. 4 - Bonafide should've gone with full length line steering guides, instead of cheaping out with those stupid little ends that, as you've already experienced, work loose and gum up your steering. 5 - Get yourself some cutting board material to properly space out one of those paddle holders, move it up front to the sidetrack, and use it to hold the front end of your paddle, while the back end is held up by your Sidekick. Much easier than the factory paddle holder and bungee. 6 - If you're a bigger guy like me, that single space for a 3700 tacklebox, behind the seat, becomes almost useless, when sitting, thanks to hull flex and clearances. I got around it by fashioning some spacers out of pvc pipe, riveted to the seat frame underside, lifting it up just enough to add a little extra clearance. 7 - Someone needs to come up with an aftermarket front keelguard. That nose is really pronounced.
@wendellfishing

J This is solid feedback. I'm working on finishing up 3d printed seat risers that should free up a few inches of space under your seat. I did notice that Bonafide was selling an aftermarket spring.. but when people were asking questions about it in the comments.. they didn't respond on where they could purchase it. I'm going to take a stab at the keel guard with a Kydex option. I like your POV. I'm going to pin this.

I was really torn betwen the Bonafide P127 and the Slayer Propel Max 12.5. I ended up with the Native but honestly only because they cut me a really good offer on it that saved me enought to buy the landing gear and add a Garmin Striker Vivid 4cv. From what I can tell, you really can't go wrong with either. I haven't had the chance to hit the water yet but I'm stoked to have it in the garage to tinker with and can't wait to get out on the water.

Great review. I've seen and read so many reviews. Looking at options, pro/cons, the overall... I think I am still going with Old Town. This bonefide is nice and the peddle drive is nice, I really like that it is personally serviceable. Thanks for mentioning that as for me is a very big plus one for me. But,I still get tripped up by issues like shallow hull, the rudder control as you've pointed out get floopy, the control to lower rudder, and "the location of the rudder itself" (seems like it would be vulnerable under the hull and that would be a constant worry in the back of my mind hauling as well anytime in shallow water or near trees). Also the seat design ,lack of internal storage, and the price for the oldtown is less. Great review, I appreciate that you speak of the issues you've experienced is really helpful. I like all the mounting tracks. Those can be added to kayaks, so I don't see that downfall of Old Town to be a deal breaker. (Not really sure why they didn't design them with more mounting tracks). Again thank you for your review...for the money of these things; your really have to know this type of stuff.

Love it D. She's a battleship. I watched Chad review the 2021' new model. Can't wait for your new Ideas, DIY's and add-ons. I built my crate, from your diy vid, and have loved it. Not a fan of the black pak either. Nice, but they're heavy and bulky. You'll love that extra space on that boat. My buddy replaced his rod tip holders, with nice starboard strips. I did install two paddle clips along the side, with the factory paddle bungee strap on my kayak. It sits out of the water, and secured. I'm 5ft 7" 155, and also love my deck dry. I can stand and cast, just about anywhere, on my boat. I also love the exercise on the water. No gym needed. My mirage drive, and the paddle is a must. I do run my J2 Bixpy, for long runs, and plus I have a pacemaker. So it's an extra mode of propulsion for me. I'll always get back to my launch spots. Good luck bro, awesome kayak and walkthrough. Can't wait to see your setup vids in progress. You're like me. Everything has to have a place, on the kayak. Lol. 👍 🎣🙏

Great video. I'm looking to get a kayak in the future. My top 3 are native titan, hobie pa, bonafide p127. The one thing that bothers me is that I think native and bonfide could do is take the hump out of the floor to make it flat when not using the peddle drive. I like to stand and fish so that where the hobie has those two beat in my book. I will be demoing all three this summer.

Sweet rig! The spirit of Zoffinger told me to cut your existing rod tubes in the shape you described, you'd only have 1 upper hole on each side to deal with. Video seems to come across as an overview / review. A stronger introduction would help viewers for instance, did you mention how long you have been using the kayak? (Maybe I missed that) By saying “I’ve had it for a week” compared to “I’ve owned it for over 6 months” changes how much credibility and critiques your opinions hold. Thank you for time stamping the different features the kayak offers.

The under-seat bag comes standard with the 2023 models. Those tracks under the back of the seat and the rear of the seat sliding around would bother me. I looked at different videos and that even puzzled the One Objective guys. But Bonafide doesn't mention it in any of their videos. Surely someone has brought it up before. But that platform under the seat willl hold one 3700 or two 3600 boxes. But it seems like they are only accessible from the rear. Other than that, it looks like a sweet ride. I know you will enjoy it. You'll need to do a follow up video once you get it all set up for some serious bass slime.
@wendellfishing
@wendellfishing Жыл бұрын
Good to know on the bags.. Wonder if they will throw them on the P127 even though they are not coming out with a new PD model this year. The problem as you already know on the under the seat 3700/3600 box storage is that unless I have 4 joints will make it difficult to reach.... and the bigger issue is that most people will run their sidekicks as close as they can get them to the center of the boat making back access to that point impossible. I'm still thinking on some options for under the seat slide drawer. Even if I have to build one.. I will make it happen. But yes... a sweet ride indeed.

For $3100, it seems like they failed on quality control on that boat. How does ride?

Being in it for this season.. it's a solid boat and I would highly recommend it. Rides and fishes like a dream.

Any updates on the seat risers? I’m currently using blocks of wood for seat risers messing with the height to see what works best.

Good video, could you tell us why you chose propel drive over mirage?
@wendellfishing
@wendellfishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks Preston.. Instant reverse is probably the most polarizing difference between propel drives and fin drives. Other than that... They are easy to work on and keep maintained which is something I personally like as I like to work, maintain, and be able to fix everything I have. I actually have a 5 part video series coming out soon on the Propel Drive System. I also know many who are very happy with their mirage drive as well. However, mirage drive come on kayaks that are currently out of my price range as all of my kayaks are from FB marketplace.

@@wendellfishing ahhh, thank you for the answer. I can imagine instant reverse is very useful. However, when it hits a structure (log or rock) underwater, isn't it dangerous? or isn't it break your kayak easily? The way you use it in the video (unlocked the pin on shallow water) resolves my concerns completely? many many thanks !

@@prestonghim748 You got it...when I run it in standing timber or shallow waters. I release the lock and when I hit something.. it hits the guard before the propeller. But when I hit something.. I'm usually going pretty slow.
