Bonafide ss127 fishing setup and review

The Bonafide ss127 is an amazing platform to fish from. However there is one con about this kayak that is turning me towards the Old Town Topwater 120 PDL. I explain why its a con in this video but also explain why this fishing set up is a very nice route to go. I hope this fishing set up and review helps with deciding what kayak you want to go with or give you any ideas in general.

I feel your pain on the trolling motor and battery annoyance. Husband and I did this on two kayaks for 2 years until we decided to ditch them for a couple of Hobie Oubacks with micro powerpoles. Absolutely love the peddle option. Wind is never an issue anymore.

Love the vessel bro. I researched all last year. I actually decided on my Hoidoi Tempest 120 Hybrid edition. I had just recieved my kayak in july. I paid for it on feb 1st. Love the stability, drop down foot control rudder, anchor trolleys, paddle, deck padding, amazing seat,. But what I love the most is they offer the 46lb thrust. Which fit's exactly where my PDL Drive goes. The trolling motor weighs 19lbs, unbelievable light. Love everyone's setups..🎣🙏🤟

May have to get me a trolling motor for mine. I love my ss127. But I wish I had a peddle kayak the windy days kill me paddling. Thanks for the video. Be safe out there

Thanks for watching! Its defiantly worth it not having to paddle everywhere. Just keep in mind the extra stuff you have to tote around. Not all that bad though,

Completely new to Kayaking. In Central FL as well. So new, I havent been on the water yet. Actually, now that I think of it, I've never even been fishing in FL yet.

Thank you! The bonafide is hard to paddle straight but with the flexwings or a rudder it does paddle on track.

I enjoy your videos and you honest evaluation of choices you have made. I have just bought an SS127 and I plan to eventually add a mounting puck on it so I can use my iPilot from my bigger boat. Have you considered mounting the battery further back and then carrying the TM in the back until you get to the water? That would put the weight on the cart so you don't have to lift it as well as give access to the handle. I plan to it try that way. I will only be using it to cover distance and then paddle when in close.

Thank you! I I never really thought about that. Seems like it would work out a lot better. On the other hand. Oddly enough I feel like the kayak paddles better with the weight of the trolling motor and battery up there. So you won’t have any problems once you get to your spots!

Grab yourself a solar power charger that way you’ll never ran out of battery on your go pro. Btw great video bro!! Thinking of getting this kayak too as my starter.

So I’m looking at getting one of the bonafides. My truck is a crew cab ford like yours and I was wondering do you load the 127 in your truck, trailer it or have a t-bar extension? My local dealer has 127 but not 107. I was considering holding out and finding a 107 just for fitting it in the box of my truck better. If you do load it in your truck do you feel confident it’s not falling off the back once strapped in? Was wondering what your take was on it? If you could do a video on fitting in your truck or show me a photo of it in your truck and your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I just load it up in the bed of my truck without a t bar. I feel fine with it like that with one strap. never moved on me and doesn't bounce around. Send me an email and I can show you a picture of how it looks in the bed of the truck. cmitchellfishing@gmail.com

Thank you! It’s a 12v 55lb thrust. Moves the boat along pretty well.

Hey, just curious how mph did the 55lb Minn Kota push the ss127? I got a 45lb on mine and it goes 3.5mph.Thanks!! Love the new yak....

Hey Chris I'm looking at getting a ss127 and your set up looks perfect. Do you just use the micro pole during the day when you fish to hold you in position and then when you're in need of a big move or fish on the run you use the trolling motor? You say that the battery, trolling motor and all that is a ton to lug around but doesn't it get you back to the boat launch after those long days fishing?

You're correct on both. One thing I think I would have done differently is get a trailer. It would make loading and unloading a lot easier.

Welcome and thanks! I did transport it right in the bed. I just put the transom in first and I don’t need an extension. It’s a great kayak and you’ll love it!

I have been watching your videos because you fish the St. Johns river for bass and I do from the Sanford boat ramp to the Deland boat ramp. Where do you put your kayak, what area of the river? I really enjoy your bass fishing videos. Thank you.

If you end up with a Topwater 120 PDL, please do a video on how you end up mounting your power pole micro. Only thing from keeping me from pulling the trigger on that kayak as well.

I do not. I'll take it off and store it in my truck for transportation.

I got the wings from the bonafide website. they are in the accessories tab with the rudders and such.

You could just take the chair out and lay the autopilot in that space and the battery. Then wheel that out to the entry point. Then you just have to go back and get the chair

Why not put the trolling motor on the back and the power ole on the front. Kayaks are designed to be heavier on the rear than on the front. With the 35-40 pound trolling motor on the front it causes the rear to lift slightly causing the rear to slide.

Power Pole will get in the way of fishing if its in the front. Plus you can position better in the wind when the power pole is in the back. Also this kayak has a built in mounting sport for the power pole in the back. I understand that kayaks aren't made for heavy trolling motors in the front but I like to push the envelope and see what I can get away with.

I was new to the whole thing. Didn’t know what I was doing, didn’t know how to make a proper review video and bought all the camera gear that I thought was necessary which was totally unnecessary. Live and learn. 🤷🏻‍♂️
