🌞🌞🌺🌻🌺🌞🌞 Thank you for taking the time to share this info... again. Not being full time at the pic taking thing, these refreshers do help down the road.

Thanks for your time. My next video should be a detailed explanation on the photos presented in this video

I'm coming around to thinking of light as the only thing in the scene - because it is. We don't photograph scenes as such, we only photograph / capture light. I know it's a banal assertion, but it's closer to the truth than thinking of photography as being about the 'Things' in the frame, and i find that concentrating on that reality is changing what i do for the better. Thanks for the timely vid. Cheers.

My photos are also determined by the light. If there is good light, only then I start looking for a potential subject inside the area of light

Excellent observations and sharings from your professional experience. I am finding summertime, early early morning cloudless skies, to be a very difficult task! Of course if I'm lucky enough to find radiant fog, great, but not usually the norm!

When there are no clouds in the sky, I usually photograph first with my back to the place from where the sun should rise. With 5 - 10 minutes before sunrise you get some tints of magenta on the horizon. I also don't use a CPL in these moments: I feel the image looks better

Great video, Toma, as always! What you said is perfectly aligned to what I found out myself, doing and trying 😁 In my last trips, I tried to wake up early in the morning to walk in the city/towns I visit. For 2 main reasons: lack of crowds, and the morning (or sunrise, depends) light. In my latest trip I was surprised to discover that my budget camera, with a 20.9 MP crop sensor, is able to retains a lot of details in the shadows and highlight when I shot in warm-morning light. I could recover a lot of details from shadows, for instance, in postprocessing, from the parts looked quite dark at the first glance. On the other hand, I still struggle to find the proper settings/exposure when I shot in harsh/midday light. And when you arrive in a great place (city, landscape etc) in the middle of the day and you can not come back in the morning, or at sunset, you have no choice, to shot as it is. I found that even for a "quite well looking image", when I pull up a little bit of shadows, the image becomes worst, with a lot of annoying noise in that part 😁 But it is ok, I'm still learning. And thanks to you, with this king of video, we can all grow 👍

Thank for the comment Ionut. The reason for the shadow noise is because is under exposed too much. I know that in midday it's difficult to capture the entire tonal range in only one photo and HDR is also difficult since people and cars are moving. I would leave the shadows darker and in post, if they are too dark I would raise the Black point from Curves. It will give you a matte look but you'll not have noise in the image

6 mistakes to avoid: 1. Overexpose in harsh light 2. Underexpose in low light 3. Ignore white balance 4. Not paying attention to shadow 5. Not expose for light 6. Not place subject in the light.

Very good post... to the point! What is your approach to editing: Do you use luminosity masks? if you do.. any panel in particular...? thanks!
@BonciuToma

I edit my images locally with different masks but either I create the mask by painting it or I just use the masking options from Lightroom. I tried luminosity masks but I found it didn't suited my style. I'm not that precise in my edits: I go with the flow. Hope the answer helps

The background muzak makes the video unwatchable. If your content is interesting then you don’t need background music. And if it’s not, background music won’t make the video interesting. In any case, the background muzak is annoying AF.
