This video couldnt have had better timing! I just got a rabbit yesterday as a companion for my other rabbit. Theyre in two different cages and seem very happy to see each other and they try to touch noses through the cages. The newest rabbit ( we’re going to call him Vans) has already done binkies the day we got him! I think theyre a perfect match for each other.

I adopted a bonded pair (both female) thinking I would skip the bonding drama. But apparently they had some stuff they still needed to work out. I hadn’t done much research on bonding prior to adopting so I was kind of panicking. But I did some small space sessions, and limited their area for a while so they didn’t have as much to fight over. Now they’re doing much better! Thanks for getting this content out there! It’s important!

you're so lucky it worked out well for you! Usually two males or two females won't get along when they get older, spaying does help a lot. But I had two females first as well, I didn't know the risks, because nobody told me. But they started fighting and I had to separate them. If they do ever get issues you could always get one male around the same age. I hope they'll stay happy and healthy tho!! xoxo

Same, except with a recently neutered 8 month old male and a 3 month old female. I was 13 and didn't know anything, I just let them both out and they were besties immediatelly. Caged them together right away. Years later the girl had to be put down and I got a new female, the then 10yo male never accepted the baby. I tried for three years until he passed.

Thank you for mentioning how the bonding needs to be lead by rabbits! It took us around 4 months to bond our pair. We adopted a rabbit from a rescue for our territorial single free roam bunny and she hated the whole process, going from being free roam to being a small square pen with a stranger for some hours on end made her very annoyed at the rabbit and whenever it came to the bonding time she would be difficult to catch etc. We went against traditional recommendations and expanded the pen to half a room and then a whole room and it made her waaay less aggressive. There were still fights but less frequent and easier to break up. I think the more popular advice actually works for very few people to be honest! And it's also why I think so many rabbit owners are convinced their rabbit "can't be bonded"

It sometimes just takes time for the 2 of them to understand each other even when they are obviously curious about each other from the beginning. My female rabbit is very dominant and plays rough, while my male rabbit is skittish. In the beginning, her grooming attempts were often mistaken as nips or bites that he ran away or fought back in anger or fear. Their bonding consisted of 1 week of living separately side by side, and took turns using the common area. Then 3 weeks of short supervised bonding sessions everyday. Then 2 more weeks of using common area together but still living separately when nobody could supervise them. Then finally I trusted them enough to not get into fights when I'm not looking. Rabbits learn from each other, my female rabbit mellows drastically after bonding, while my male rabbit shows his curious side more often. They still have little episodes of chasing sometimes when they bonded for over 2 years already, but they make up immediately after, so I just let them be.

I’m commenting this on multiple bunny videos. I hope someone sees this and can help. I have two female buns. One is a year old and one is 3. They are both lops and are both spayed. When I brought home the 1 year old she was 5months. They both got along great, would groom eachother and play. Neither of them were spayed at this time. But once we got the youngest spayed she started to get aggressive which we thought was odd. She started biting and nipping our other bun. So we separated them. Then I thought that getting my other bun spayed would help. But nope. It’s been 6months and I’ve tried everything!! Stress bonding, a neutral territory, giving them each others litter boxes, having them spend time in the other ones territory. Everything. As soon as they see each other their tails go up and they want to bite. Absolutely no hesitation they just want each other dead I swear! I’m not sure they can even be bonded! But they used to be so cute running around together and I want them to do that again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Very informative and helpful video. Thanks for all the great tips! I recently acquired a teen aged rabbit from a niece who could not keep him due to an aggressive husky at her home. I've since adopted and fallen in love with this bunny who I affectionately renamed Cotton Ball (or Bon Bon lol). After a few weeks of getting to know this animal and sensing his need for more attention, I decided to get him a companion. Surely this would help ease boredom and enrich his overall life experience. It was then that I learnt of their strong territorial traits and capacity to fight with others of their own species. Whatever happened to all those endearing, sweet bunny vibes?! lol The companion I settled on was a younger rabbit (not yet named) and he has shown a totally different bunny side ever since. Needless to say, its been a journey and I've had to separate them on occasion but I've noticed that they seem a bit more relaxed around each other of late. They even snuggle and share the water and pellet bowls at the same time. Cotton has established dominance and also grooms his pal like a true big brother. However, I find myself observing them to ensure that there are no "accidents". There is a way that Cotton charges that I find intimidating far less for his younger mate. I even ordered a pet cam to spy during the day and night whenever I hear a strange sound. I keep them in an xpen open floor layout near our dining room with hidey boxes, a rug, large litter box and some wooden toys. I let them run around our backyard on mornings and evenings to graze and release all their zoomie energy. Its fun watching them do binkies. Adorable actually! I can fully understand why owners take bunnies on play dates to assess bonding and compatibility. Who knew these animals were so sensitive to their own kind and can even hold a grudge lol. Yes, I have been given the cold shoulder as well lol I find that truly amazing and almost hilarious. But I do love these animals and find life to be so much worthwhile with them in it. No regrets.

Be glad you didn’t end up with two Does…. I’ve found as well as everyone I have ever talked to…Two females together is a death sentence There will be blood….. Most likely. Does are crazy full of Hormones and way more territorial than the bucks. In every pairing relationship with a Buck and Doe, Does are almost Always Dominate. I love my Bucks because they are laid back and chill compared to the Does I’ve had. My bonding went over very smoothly with Eden and Mia. (Eden is a boy, yep I got tricked as well!) You don’t need to get both neutered for bonding to work….for baby rabbits. Eden was 1 year old and Mia was 8 weeks when I started bonding. Babies are more likely to be submissive because they don’t have hormones swamping them…yet. They aren’t concerned over territory and are more in la la land with the other bunny and new surroundings. Eden was honestly like a second Mother to Mia. They loved eachother after Eden established Dominance a few times. (None violent). This can also go very south as well. If you have an aggressive Rabbit with a baby this is pretty bad. Baby bunnies are pretty bad at reading other bunnos warnings since it’s never been an issue for them before. They also will have a harder time running. They can’t fight back either, they simply don’t know how.

@@APisMe I appreciate it, thank you! Even with all the videos I watched leading up to the second bun, I was not at all prepared for how difficult bonding was going to be. It's especially strange because my two boys will groom each other like crazy during bonding sessions and even through the gate that separates them. My first boy is extremely dominant and I guess territorial, which the new bun tolerates for the most part, but if the new boy shows any territorial/ dominant behavior, it becomes a bloodbath. In this most recent incident, my first bun was able to get a bad bite on the new one's eyelid. Luckily no damage to his eye and they were able to stitch him up. My mistake, for anyone curious, was that I did three sessions in neutral territory with no problems, and on the fourth attempt, I didn't realize the blanket lining the floor wasn't neutral so things spiraled quickly. Also, while a dustpan and spray bottle can avoid and break up small fights, it was nothing against them when they latched onto each other. My vet recommended having towels on hand to throw over the bunnies and then oven mitts or a towel around your hands to quickly grab one of them.
@APisMe
@APisMe 3 жыл бұрын
@@miracakesanim It definitely can be a challenge! My boy and girl fell in love immediately and they've been great. I brought in this young little rescue and was really taken aback that my boy was the issue because even though they're both male, he is so kind and she's the trouble maker. The new one's injury was near the eye and I really don't know if it was a bite or kick with nails because it was so fast I just saw a flight of movement and shoved the dust pan in there and grabbed the new one to check on him. He is currently at the vet being stitched up and I can go back for him later. I find until you're in the situation, you can think you're prepared but all it takes is a fraction of a second for something to happen. I'll keep working on it though because it's not been long and I will bond him to my little lady first and then to my boy as the issue is with them. My girl even groomed him, which was shocking because she hardly even grooms her bonded partner. So I think there is hope! Just take it slow and little by little hopefully it comes together. Life with lops had a really hard bonding with her two and I found that video to also be very helpful

I used to have four rabbits, two pairs of siblings, each one male and female and bonding them was easy compared to this. But a few years ago, one girl died because she had an abzess that moved her jaw. After that, the group was broken, the other boy chased the brother (he is the slightly younger male) of the girl who had died and he wouldn't ever stop. It has been a traumatic experience for the younger one (they were all three years at that point and been together most of their lives) and even now, more than two years later, whenever he just smells one of the siblings, he starts to panic. This is why we gave up trying to rebond them. My older ones are now living with me and I bonded them with another pair (expected two females, found out to late its one male one female) and it worked quite fine until we had some breaking out problems and found out he was a boy and had to seperate them again.. Now three are bonded and I'll have to see how it goes as soon as its save to put the boy back in with the girls.

Wow this was super helpful. I am a little nervous as I have a one year old De sexed female Mini Lop and she is rather dominant of the house as her territory. Sometimes/ rarely she can be dominant over my 4 year old daughter having too much of my attention which I have been working on. I am due to pick up a baby 12 week old female French Lop this Saturday and I am nervous of the bonding process. My rabbit Dellie is so kind and patient and has only snapped a handful of times over the whole year of having her. But she definitely sees me as mummy and loves mummy time and cuddles, I’m worried about how she will react with new baby french lop. Great video though. Thank you. This helps me feel more prepared and with some good tips to start with 🤍🙏

Someone please help me. I have two holland lops that are 6 months old girls and sisters. They have shown no signs of aggression towards each other until one of them starting chasing the other and trying to mount her, but the other runs away. Should I separate them even though they aren’t biting? I’m worried the might get more aggressive when I’m not around and I don’t want either getting hurt

I have been trying for 2 months. I am really frustrated. I have watched a ton of videos and I have run out of stuff to try. They just fight no matter what. Was about to give up but decided to watch this video and now maybe ill give em 1 more month. Today I tried the boxing ring thing as a last result in neutral territory and they just went into a series of nasty fights right away. I have a bad feeling about my situation. One of them is a lot bigger than the other and I really worry about the little guy getting hurt one day. Big guy is the aggressor 80% of the time. This might all just be way more trouble than it's worth

Long shot since it’s an old video, but I just picked up a rabbit on the side of the road (happy Easter!). I already have a 3 year old I got the same exact way. Gonna try to bond them but the new one is like 3 months old and I don’t think can be neutered yet. They’re both male too, my 3 year old is neutered. Is it safe to start bonding them or should I separate them until the new guy gets neutered?

@martheseanymph 3 жыл бұрын
It is not okay to add the litter box, because they are going to start to fight for the space of the litter box, it is the same with the hay, also the water, if you want more information you can check 101 rabbits' videos about the bonding process 🐰👌🏻

Can you please clarify for me that when you say that your bunnies are fighting, are they just boxing, or doing the whole "spinning on their sides and trying to kill each other" kind of fighting? My housemate and i have 2 male rabbits who are now about 8 months old and we're trying to bond them slowly -- Your videos really help! But they get into the big spinning fights and we're not sure if putting them in a small space together to work it out is going to help or if the might still try to kill each other? Our Toffee and Sui Bian are both very dominant, unfortunately.
@Katesque
@Katesque 3 жыл бұрын
Any chasing, nipping, boxing and especially spinning is a major concern to me. (These are signs of aggression and them fighting over their territory), neutral spaces and especially smaller neutral spaces in my case are the best place for me to bond them (they can't claim one half of the space as theirs and are forced to be near each other). Definitely try a smaller space and if that's not working for your bunnies, try a different size. Keep trying different things for them and see what works. xx
@Katesque

@@Katesque Thank you! We're currently trying making their fence into 2 small triangles with one panel between them so they can attempt to bond through that. They've progressed from fighting through it to mostly ignoring each other, so I think that's a good thing :D

THANK YOU FOR THIS. I used to have two pairs of bunnies. A sibling duo (5years old), and a female duo (8 years old) that we kept separate from each other because the female alphas - Luna and Momo - did not get along with each other. But then my bun, Momo, passed last December and it was devastating to say the least. We wanted to bond her brother, Chibi, to my female duo so that he wouldn't be lonely, but it's been rough. At first it appeared successful, as Chibi submitted almost immediately to the other female alpha, Luna. But I made a mistake of becoming too eager and letting them have a bigger run space and they both got territorial and aggressive over the space- leading to a really scary fight. I've separated them since and have been hesitant to bond them, so I really needed to see this video. In the meantime, the three of them all live in the same room, with their pens right next to each other. I'll definitely do the bonding in pairs thing because I know who are the "problem" buns 🤣😅

I wonder if you can help me I have a rescue bunny that I've had for about 5 years (Rascal) he was bonded to another rabbit but unfortunately that rabbit passed away last year. In the meantime I've been looking for another rescue rabbit to bond with him. I've found him (Jo JO) but he's only 10 weeks old so hasn't been neutered yet. They both live in an indoor enclosure in the garage so I split it in 2 so they can still see each other and sniff through the bars but they can't attack each other. In the evening I bring them inside for about 3 or 4 hours one because its nice and warm and 2 to spend some quality time with them grooming and stroking them. Anyway after an awfully long pre-amble my question is should I let them mix a bit (obviously under supervision) before he is neutered? All the videos say not too but it just seems a bit mean what do you think? Should I wait until after the neutering?

From the hundreds of videos ive watched i would only let them play together when theyre supervised. However if theyre not mounting each other or chasing or fighting then i would slowly start to add more time to their playtime together. Then if you feel confident, go ahead and try a “bunny sleepover.” But make sure youre sleeping close by just in case they do fight or something bad happens. If they dont fight that night then you have successfully bonded bunnies!

If you have 3 and 2 of them aren't getting along, you cannot just take those 2 and bond them leaving the 3rd out. It will break their bond with the 3rd rabbit. Once bonded you cannot separate them at all. Even if one has to go to the vet, you have have to take them together. The set up is cute but my rabbits would jump right over it. Rabbits can jump several feet and will if they want freedom.

I need help, I had both rabbits fixed I have a male and female they get along just fine but my male humps my female which results in them spinning , do I leave them to fight it out ??? but break it if it gets worse , do I continue to put them together and pick up the male once he gets on her back. They don’t fight normally but humping results into the fights. Male is in a pen they groom through the bars but next to each other just won’t work

I have a bunny who is 1 now, his name is Dumle and I have only had him for 4 months. A week ago I took home a babybunny that is 9 weeks old. At first he didn’t even bother looking at her. Then he was very confused that he saw another rabbit… Then he just was jelous of her food cus it seemed like she always had food when he didn’t (i do not mean hay now…) So he started to try to get inside of the space I had built for her (I Use the same material as you do actually) he always got inside in some way. Now he can even jump over it and I have two on top of eachother the height is 70cm! So he learnt to jump that high… everytime he did that he scared the shit out of her. At first he just wanted to smell her but now it is like he want to show her this is his space and he growls at her. I am afraid he will kill her because I feel like he is vety intense and aggressiv and she is so tiny compared to him… They are the same breed but she is not even a teenager… I mean… I have a balcony where is like his little apartment… He have it all for himself and usually he is free roaming but now I have him there when I am sleeping or if I’m not at home… Now I feel like they never can bond and be together… I am scared 😫 Dumle is very hard to handle. He never wants to be pet even… So we are not best friends yet. We have made progress but we’re not there yet… :/

I have two bunnies that are both 4 years old, a female and a male. I got the male neutered as soon as I could but never neutered the female, I've been trying to bond them knowing it'll be difficult. they act kind to eachother but the female can get a lil angry. What should I do? Give up? Is it really impossible to ever bond them? Just wondering.
