Im glad you walked back on refusing to use stress bonding, we found your channel from that video and we were unsuccsessful with our bonding when using only calming or kinder methods and we figured we must be doing something wrong. Stress bonding was what finally worked for us and it's important bunny owners are aware of it. Our bunnies finally started bonding when we boarded them with an experienced pet owner. The change of environment and stress of travel worked wonders, plus the boarder was very good with bunnies and helped us a lot

Thank you SO much for showing the good, the bad and the ugly parts of bonding!! I can’t believe it’s taken me two weeks to find this but now I’m starting over with a new plan!!! I just found your channel by sheer luck and I'm glad I did. I have a pair of bunnies who just broke their baby bond at 4 months and I was getting nervous about the process to rebond them after they are spayed this coming October/November. They are sisters from the same litter, they can still see each other but they are separated now until after their spay and after healing. Thank you for the educational videos. I am also so sorry to read/watch about the passing of Bunmi and Turbo, they were lucky to have you as their bun mom. I hope the current pair is doing well and hope you and the family are doing well

This is great. Just some additional advice for anyone else bonding rabbits: DO NOT USE BARE HANDS. If a true fight breaks out even the gentlest of rabbits will bite a hand that comes between them or grabs them. Their eye sight is bad and all the know is that they are under attack and something has appeared and is either in their face threatening them or grabbing their body. The bites in this state aren't little nips, they can require stitches. If you have two people around and you want to pet them with your bare hand that can be fine, but make sure the other person is ready with oven mitts or other thick gloves on.

Yes that I do agree. When my two bunnies got into a fight, I reacted really quickly and grab the one bunny and he bit me really really hard to the point where he actually took off my little skin on my hand. I never went to the hospital so I don’t think I needed stitches but it left a big scar on my hand. So yes do not use bare hands 😂

This is exactly exactly exactly …my bunnies right now, it’s so frustrating ! They had a baby bond but now they are fighting like crazy. Mines neutered now 2 weeks. Attempting to rebond in 4. They would backward mount and then the other would nip the genitals. It was terrifying. They are both boys. One of mine is sweet but he is the mounter. The other just doesn’t like it. :( it’s so sad seeing them like this. It happens so fast you can’t even catch or separate them.- Thankyou for this video. Exactly what I needed to watch xx Did you put them back in separate pens when you were sleeping after successfully bonded? Or left together overnight / not at home.

Update: yesterday we took them to an neutral space and was the first time after so much time that they stayed toghether without attacking each other but kissing each other. Then we took they home and (big mistake from which we learned a lot) we left them in the kitchen for about an hour and after an hour they started to fight, no damage, we separated them as soon as they started and put them on the table to end the day in a good mode. We continue to work with them and hope that soon we will get better results :)

i have had a very similar experience with my rabbits ( they just celebrated their 5th birthday this week ) down to how their bonds broke. Our male got sick and had to be put on antibiotics which is what we think made our Female no longer like him due to the new or changed smell. it took around 3 months of convincing her and she FINALLY came back around to him. we didn't really make them interact at all to begin with, keeping the male in the living room and main indoor hutch, and the female in the dining room and the secondary hutch ( they are free roam indoors but we keep hutches inside for them to sleep in ). we let them just have small but frequent interactions on their own terms for around 2 months and on the third month we supervised them together with no fence between them. although it took a long time it was 100% worth it and they have never been happier together. I think the worst part was that our male got super depressed as he probably didn't understand why the female disliked him :( so we had to make sure that someone was always with him and playing. I think that shows that rabbits should 100% be bonded, seeing how sad he became was horrible

We have four rabbits, none of whom will bond with the other. Our most dominant is a female who will go after any rabbit in her space. There is one male she tolerates but they are both caged all the time. They can see each other through their cages and the female will eat the hay protruding from his hay supply. The male will groom the female through their cages but that's as good as it gets. It took a solid year before the female would accept my wife. It took two years for me to even get close to her. Since these are rescue rabbits we don't know their history and bonding may not be in the cards. I'm glad your re-bonding efforts worked out and I think it's better for the rabbits to be mates.

Great video. I like how you adjust fire and try another technique! I have heard SO many times that you should never stress bond in a carrier (or anywhere else) but I don't know why people make such a fuss. If done carefully and as only one part of an overall bonding routine, I think it makes sense.

This is a good video on how not to bond bunnies. OK she managed it in the end and hats off to her admitting some mistakes. Just sad she didnt do the number one think of neutral teritory first, this caused much more stress than necessary. If you haven't done hours of research and are 100% confident of the right techniques, please ask a local bunny rescue to do it for you, and follow their advise on how to continue it when they are home. Again hats off to her for her honesty in this video.

@@KennonLive ok. I’m just in thought process now and just looking into bonding bunnies. It’ll definitely be at least another 6 months before I close the deal. I’m just inquiring and gathering information at the present. 😊 I’m not one of those people that sporadically buys animals and don’t have a clue how to care for them. Before I got Willow, I done research on her for 2ish years off and on and even after I was ready to get a bunny, I researched out many breeders before I decided on one and chose her. I wanted to be sure her parents were well cared for, which would give her better health odds. I do plan on spaying her. Her 1st vet appointment is June 9th (that’s the soonest I could get her in) and her vet and I will be discussing the spaying process. 😊 Thank you for that statement though! I appreciate your insight. ❤️🐰

@@KennonLive would you recommend a female partner (after Willow is spayed) or a male partner?
@KennonLive
@KennonLive Жыл бұрын
@@Butterfly-mt5ml that's a lot of theory out there some says male and female is easiest and some says it doesn't matter. Lots of animal shelter/rescues do "speed dating" service. That way you can talk to the staff at the rescue who often are very well educated in the manner. You can also see if your rabbit get along with the potential partner. Positive sign to look for in the first date are - being curious about each other like sniffing, humping, nipping that doesn't turn into fights, kisses (if you are very lucky) or ignoring is also good in some case. Probably harder if they're start fighting and lots of chasing once they see each other.
@KennonLive
@KennonLive Жыл бұрын
Most of the time rabbits at rescues are all fixed unless they are too young, so that also makes things easier. Plus they can tell you the temperament of the bun, which actually can varies quite a lot as you will learn as you seek out new buns, and so you can also take that into account if it will be a good match for you and your bun.

This was a really good video, we just got a second rabbit and when we introduced our current rabbit to the new one at the rabbit shelter the two hit it off wonderfully but today (very next day) they started fighting. You talk about doing the table bonding and stress bonding for 5-15 minutes. My question is is that done once a day or multiple times a day but spread out throughout the day? And if it’s spread throughout the day how many times per day do you recommend doing the table bonding?

Thank you for your advice!! I'm 4 days into the process and some sessions go well and some not so well. However, neither of my two have shown aggression like Bunmi did on those first few days, which makes me feel a lot more hopeful! Mine usually just ignore eachother but every now and again one of them will chase/lightly nip the other.. I'm never sure how short/long to keep their sessions. If they're doing good do I just let it continue, or should I keep it timed regardless of how it's going? I know this bonding takes time but this is definitely the best video I've came across yet! I appreciate the honesty, and would like to try avoid stress bonding if possible. Very glad Bunmi and Turbo are happy now! Thank you again:)
@Meikcaj
@Meikcaj 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I know that this comment is old enough that this is probably not relevant, but if they are doing good and you have time, it is fine for sessions to last longer. Ideally, things would go at the rabbit's pace. That means that some aggressive couples will need to start with very short sessions while rabbits like yours could benefit from longer sessions. However, the important thing is to end on a positive note, so if your rabbits do fight/engage in negative behaviours you want to wait it out until they have a break or demonstrate positive behaviour again.

My bun Teddy attacked his girl counterpart pretty badly a few months ago and we couldnt keep her because of it. She had to get stitches, so it was very unfortunate. We are bunny dating him now with another boy bun and their first date went ok today, but Teddy is still showing aggression toward the new bun. I intervened immediately before any behaviors could escalate, but we saw mostly lunging/growling and thumping. The other one hasn't reacted at all and seems to just want to be Teddy's friend, but I'm really not sure how to continue. I dont want Teddy to hurt this new bun, especially since we havent adopted him and we're just dating to see how they might do. I thought about stress bonding but it TERRIFIES me to put them in a tiny carrier together where I cant break up a fight if I need to :( How did your buns do with the stress bonding in the car? Please bunny owners! Dont do alot of the things she did in the beginning!.I no she said she made mistakes but You ALWAYS Want to make sure both bunnies are always in a Neutral place (where neither bunny has been) to bond because it will cause more aggressive behavior. And it's much better to bond on a floor like tile/linoleum..just not carpet also please PLEASE do your Research and find 2 to 3 different ways to bond bunnies so you will already no the dos/don'ts of the process and another plan if the 1st dont work. Also do your research about bunnies BEFORE adopting a bunny. OR ANY pet! So you know what to expect and u wont be surprised later and then find out the pet isn't for you,then theres another pet being neglected/abandoned/homeless/ Rehomed etc..... also research (healthy) treats/food for the pet and DON'T TRUST WHAT A PETSTORE TELLS YOU! They only tell you things you need or should buy so they can Sell more product..they dont care about you pet getting healthy stuff!.. there are youtubers that walk you through these things. Lennon the bunny, shes Great and cares Etc....

Going thru this now. Their bond broke down fast. My gurl is very jealous and Blu is getting spay soon which is definitely going to make this more challenging. Blueberry is very aggressive to little Romeo aka Agent Spicy Hay who is younger also neutered. Only got him (both rescues) cuz she was very depressed with no other rabbits around. She seems to really like to bully him. Would really like to free roam but, she's making it very difficult. Will be a long journey.
