Bong Joon Ho returned to Film at Lincoln Center for a special Q&A following a screening of Parasite, which continues playing daily. He discusses writing his next project, the reception of Parasite in Hollywood, meeting his favorite directors during the awards season, interpretations of the ending and the title, and more. Get tickets for Parasite here, including the new black-and-white version: www.filmlinc.org/parasite
In Bong Joon Ho’s exhilarating new film, a threadbare family of four struggling to make ends meet gradually hatches a scheme to work for, and as a result infiltrate, the wealthy household of an entrepreneur, his seemingly frivolous wife, and their troubled kids. How they go about doing this-and how their best-laid plans spiral out to destruction and madness-constitutes one of the wildest, scariest, and most unexpectedly affecting movies in years, a portrayal of contemporary class resentment that deservedly won the Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or. As with all of this South Korean filmmaker’s best works, Parasite is both rollicking and ruminative in its depiction of the extremes to which human beings push themselves in a world of unending, unbridgeable economic inequality. A NEON release.
Film at Lincoln Center is dedicated to supporting the art and elevating the craft of cinema and enriching film culture.
Film at Lincoln Center fulfills its mission through the programming of festivals, series, retrospectives, and new releases; the publication of Film Comment; the presentation of podcasts, talks, and special events; the creation and implementation of Artist Initiatives; and our Film in Education curriculum and screenings. I’m impressed by how, while Bong Joon-ho is passionate about, perhaps even obsessed with, film-making, he remains, at the same time, utterly unassuming, affable, and even sweet-his humanity and down-to-earth nature comes through in all these interviews.

Exactly.... a true artist and human being ....that's why he can portray human nature so insightfully and shrewdly....and at the same time... he has this huge affection towards all the people around

7:25 Bong said "poor family" but the translator changed it to "rich family". She must be confused for 1 sec at that moment. 😂

I've been wondering about how "good" the translator really is myself. *I speak Vietnamese and not Korean , but I can sometimes sound out some words* , since there is *considerable shared vocabulary between the two languages* due to a common Chinese past. And I *distinctly remember interviews where director Bong was talking about the middle class* (using terms which I could hear as a Vietnamese speaker), and the *translator simply said "well-off people".*

Here Scharon translated wrong. Bong said he didn't maintain cold distance from 'poor' family, not from rich family.

I’m kind of happy to see “She” so far so perfect She, also can make a mistake, hahaha. I think she was sort of exhausted and tired physically because of their hectic and tight schedule, so she just lost her concentration for a second.
