Here is the main problem with Bonney joining the crew: The Sunny cannot carry a fridge big enough for Luffy AND Bonney.

To be fair, she could be another Law. A supernova who becomes an ally, has a strong connection to a warlord, and even has a tragic past. Honestly you could argue Law himself had some of the strongest straw hat candidate writing in the new world. Edit: People keep mentioning law’s crew as a disqualifying factor, but jimbei had a crew too. And like jimbei, law spent most of his time in the story away from his crew as a solo act. Franky also had his little family, so people have left crews for the strawhats before.

I can see Bonney joining, but at the same time not so sure. I can also see her joining the revolutionaries like her father did. That being said, especially after Wano, Yamato and Carrot... I have the gut feeling the next crew member may be someone totally unexpected. Unironically I wouldn't exclude Stussy pulling a Robin and joining the crew at the end of the saga.

The thing about this is that it seems like the crew has been pretty much planned out since the beginning, with even a prototype Jinbe being in Oda's early sketches, but Bonney was very famously invented alongside the other Supernova in one day before Sabaody Archipelago at the editor's request. She can't have been part of Oda's original plans.

6:36 damn that was an understatement. this shit was definitely the most fucked up backstory in one piece bonney being the literal r-baby of ginny and a celestial dragon and kuma raising her as his own is just so hard to read without getting upset.

She is pretty clearly the princess of this arc. Princesses don't join the crew and this has been one of the longest standing norms/trends (at least not as fulltime sailing members). This has been the unbroken precedent since Vivi in Alabasta to Yamato in Wano.

Bonney's quickly become such a cool character in my eyes. Ever since the Reverie arc the interest in her skyrocketed, and Egghead is showing why that interest was so warranted. Her interactions with Luffy have also been wonderful. I need her to stick around!

I would like to add that the SHs have said they owe Kuma for everything he’s done for them. Taking his daughter onboard would be a way to repay him

I feel like many of these points can be said about Law, when we met Law he didn’t have his own ship. He got lot of focus on his backstory, his conflicts and he also got goals that reach the final island finding willl of D

As much as I’d like to get on board with this, I’ve been burned in the past with the prospect of Carrot or Yamato joining. You made very sound arguments for them in the past and we were so close with Yamato, but ultimately we know how that turned out. So for that reason, I will be cautiously optimistic for Bonney joining the crew. I think she would fit in on the crew quite nicely though.

Carrot: Had a role in the crew that is a standard pirate role that we saw her perform extensively and is shown in literally the first panel we see her in, her mentor wanted to join Roger as a kid, he leaves to her an inherited will directly connected to the most prominent theme in the entire series (the Dawn), bonds with the crew, shows individual quirks, her mentor's dying words are telling her of the importance of the Straw Hats, that they are the ones to bring the Dawn, and that she must keep moving forward, the man responsible for her mentor's death after beating and humiliating her tells her to go back to Zou, meaning that for her to go back to Zou instead of joining the SHs, she's not only doing the exact opposite of what Pedro told her to do, she's doing what Perospero told her to do, Luffy mentions Pedro's sacrifice right before defeating Kaido, I can keep going. I'm sorry, but for Carrot not to join after all of this, no one else can join without it being absolute bullshit. It baffles me how anyone can see it as reasonable for her to become the ruler of Zou (something she had literally ZERO buildup for, no interest in doing, goes against her dreams and against what her mentor told her to do, and completely retcons his will given he never said a single thing about ruling Zou) and then just jump to the next bandwagon thinking Bonney, Vegapunk or whoever joining makes even 1% of the sense that it make for Carrot to join, only for her to get unceremoniously evaporated from the story in the dumbest way imaginable.

I'm down. I personally find Bonney to already be more more captivating in tandem with the strawhats than Yamato ever was. I wouldn't mind if she stayed as her own separate element/person, but I can't deny that she has a fun dynamic with the crew so far. Everyone likes to compare Bonney to Law, but in Law's case it was framed as an *alliance* from the beginning - just as Kid, Hawkins, and Apoo, were busy forming their own. The context for him being there was different. In the back of my mind, no matter how much I enjoyed Law's presence on the ship, I knew the entire time: This guy has his own crew and ship to get back to. Bonney doesn't really have that. She doesn't have a Bepo, or Jean Bart, or Shachi or Penguin. It's just Bonney. And now she's being tied into Kuma's plot, who already has deep established ties to the Strawhats' journey going back to pre-ts. This setup is coming from arguably the best saga of the story, with some of the biggest emotional setups and payoffs. We're talking decades of writing just to build up to this potential addition of Bonney to the group, at the beginning of a brand new arc, rather than some contrived entirely new character addition shoved into the tail end of a long-running saga. That can work, imo.

Imagine Oda drawing the different futures of the Straw Hats was just preparation for the reader for a potential moment where Bonney uses her power to transform the other Straw Hats into their prime age so that they can accomplish a certain task. I doubt there will be a Deus-Ex-Machina-Esque moment but I can see that the different futures concept was a hidden teaser for Bonney's role for the crew in a future situation.

Even if she isn't, I think is undeniable that she will be massively important to the story. Her name sake is Anne Bonney, easily the most famous female pirate of all time and I'd place her 3rd in terms of most famous pirates period behind Edward Teech (aka irl Blackbeard) and William Kid.

Nice theory but after Luffy declared his "secret" dream to the strawhat members I am convinced there will be no more new members. All those points fit Law as well and he never joined. His crew was absent. Same case could be true for Bonney.

What I do highly like about Bonney becoming a straw hat, is the fact, that ever since her introduction, she got some screentime in between a couple of times already before the actual egghead arc. This arc placing her in the middle of the story just fits in perfectly and highlights her importance. Also Luffy couldn't take onto the world government any sooner than now. This is clearly shown by how the Sabaody incident went and also what tragic turn the Marineford Arc took. Also the arcs post-timeskip were already set: - visiting fishman island was a promise after Jinbei left luffy pre-timeskip - taking down at least one of the yonkais was also already planned for quite some time. (Luffy on fishman island already created a conflict with Big Mom and Law later on also was looking for the alliance to take down a yonkai as well) Defeating Kaido is the proof that Luffy could be ready to deal with the world government. Therefore Bonney's appearance now completely makes sense. Also you're right that this arc so heavily focuses on her, way more than even Yamato during Wano Kuni. Her connection to the strawhats is so much deeper, considering the role her father played in all of this as well. I'm excited to see Bonney joining become a reality.

His literal last wish was to defend the vessel in which luffy (maybe even being able to know/hope) his daughter would use to free the world?

I remember when Morj thought that Smoker would join the straw hats because his storyline was conflict with the WG, but i don’t understand why any character who has conflict with the world gov wouldn’t just join the revolutionaries. Every straw hat has a dream that coincides with Luffy becoming king of the pirates. Defeating the WG or Saving Kuma has nothing to do with that. If anyone has a dream that coincides with that it is either Carrot (to see the dawn) or Yamato (to fulfill Oden’s role).

Bonney are one of my top wishlist for permanent Strawhats for a long time. However from that kind of angle to directly tackle World Goverment, I think Vivi's return to Strawhats would suits the story more (also with Im seeing Vivi's photo, etc) as the Reverie event turns out, I can see her having a new dream "to revolutionize Celestial Dragon" and rejoin the Strawhats for their final voyage However if we stick to the "29" theory which said that the last crew would have Niku-Niku fruit, I can see Bonney as a successor of Kuma's fruit and become the last member. So it's either Vivi or Bonney for the last spot in the crew. A win-win situation for me as a fan of both chicks.

I really like the idea. I would argue Bonney's story will tie the Strawhats together with the Revolutionaries. Although Luffy has already connections to Dragon, Ivankov and Sabo, I think Bonney will be the emotional driving force to connect their storylines. Because her connection to her father seems much stronger than between Luffy and Dragon. So to me that seems to be a better setup for a conflict than to copy a rescue mission for Sabo.

I would have believed this but you missed the most crucial thing imo. What would be her role? While I felt Yamato had no chance as she had no defined role, I did think carrot was positioned as LOOKOUT for the straw hats which made me think she had a chance. While being a lookout is something anyone can do I think it isn't something just anyone would be WILLING to do. So until she has an actual defined position on the strawhat crew in the future ima be a hard sell on this.

It has to be Vivi, she is waiting to reunite with the crew and journey to the final island with them. Going to cry when she meets the new members and fits right in

Only one argument for the case that she will join. Luffy has said her name properly, he tried to give a nickname but actually learnt her name. He only does that to characters he cares about.

Vivi’s role in the story is to be the new ruler of Alabasta after her father’s death. Bonney’s role in the story is to avenge her Daddy by bringing down the World Government, very much like Kuma did alongside the Revolutionary Army. Yamato’s role in the story is to be the new Guardian of Wano, a role of which her Father held before her. All of these characters are Princesses with No Pirate Crew Roles that takes up the Role that their Fathers held before them. One Straw Hat Candidate does Not fit this pattern.

I'm not against the idea, but I'm one of those jaded new strawhat fans, but if she ends up joining I kinda don't like that we had two other candidates that could have had a role in the crew (Carrot = lookout, Yamato = Chronicler), I guess we could see it with time, but, for now this theory seems very meh at best

The one thing about Bonney is she hasn't been established as fitting a specific role on the ship. All other permanent strawhats fit one of those.

whoever joining straw hats crew must have a dream that had the same time frame with luffy as becoming a pirate king. Also, must be the key person to fit an empty role in the sunny. Now, straw hats already have: captain (luffy), vice captain (zoro), cook (sanji), navigator (nami), sniper/marksman for canon (usopp),doctor (doctor), archeologist (robin), shipwright (franky), musician (brook), helmsman (jinbei).

Also, one of the biggest problems in the Crew and in One Piece in General is that some crewmembers/ characters don’t get much if any time to shine during Arcs Too many SPECIAL chat to juggle, a new crew member would make it hard to give everyone a moment that shines

I’ve been waiting for the 10th straw hat until chapter 1060 came out - when Luffy finally tells the crew his real dream. At this moment I realised that doesn’t make sense someone enter the crew for now on, because Luffy telling his dream to the whole crew is such a symbolic narrative moment, that tells us that the crew is now complete and together. But what about the 10th member? I was reading the scene where the straw hats reacts to Luffy’s dream, and it hit me: Luffy already has 10 crewmates. It’s like the whole fandom forgot about something obvious, that the Sunny Go is a straw hat too. So I believe the the crew is now complete and nobody else will become a straw hat until the end of the story… and I kind of like it!

Great points Mr. Morj! why hasn't Oda revealed Bonney age to the crew. He had many opportunities disclose her age through the 5 elders but he refuses. The logical answer is Oda is plan to have Bonney join the crew as adult to later reveal to the crew that she is child leaving Luffy mad because she kid, but it's too late because she already a member of the crew.

I will believe it when i see it. After Yamato not joining, i am convinced Oda does not want any more crewmembers to split his focus for the final saga.

I really want Carrot to join, I still hold out hope that she will. I think you made some compelling arguments for Bonnery though. Very compelling arguments. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I only have 2 reasons Bonnery may not join: 1) I don't see Luffy taking a detour from finding the One Piece to go fight the WG. It is his goal and his dream, and nothing is going to detour him from going after it. Not when Blackbeard is hot on the trail to get there first. It would be weird to have Luffy find the One Piece, become Pirate King, THEN go fight the WG. I also do not see Bonnery being patient enough to wait for Luffy to change course or only go after the WG after becoming Pirate King, she wants revenge ASAP. Her "dream" is seems is purely revenge, not exactly a noble or altruistic one. 2) What would Bonnery's role on the crew be?

I’ve been loving what Oda has been doing with Bonney this arc and after watching this vid I’m on board. Gonna lower my expectations as always but it makes sense.

Wow Mr Morj that totally makes sense, and at the beginning of EGGHEAD the narator even stated that Bonney and the Straw Hats encounter was a fatefull one.

Sadly videos and such bold/confident claims of GUARANTEED or IT WILL HAPPEN proclaiming Bonney as the finally straw hat are going to age poorly given both time and hindsight… For all the hype and assumption we made about her at the end of the day she is still just a 12 year old girl who’s sole reason this arc was driven by the desire to find and reunite with her father or what’s left of Kuma… There’s been zero to any proper setup or fleshing out for her to appear as a straw hat candidate this late into the story… When we tend to forget that Yamato was the really only character who got proper setup back in wano and has yet to complete her character arc… The most deliberate fact we have is she was drawn with all the straw hats in the color spread of chapter 1103 and not Bonney… we also forget so much of her getting a backstory more less he continuing to reinforce she wants to sail and be free as a pirate specific in parallel being the oden of the current straw hat crew…. Chapter 1059 flash back also happened with her keeping the door open cause she deliberately told luffy she still wanted to sail and be one of them… People tend to forget she’s basically pulling a jinbei 2.0 situation with a delayed join considering she’s the focus of the current cover story… All of that forgotten about so quickly and easily over a 12 year old whiny brat who’s basically just a poor man’s Nika clone… a pale imitation with a retconned copy cat ability for that of a cheerleader companion character of the egghead arc… It’s going to be so fascinating to revisit all these videos and relive the short lived moments of pure delusion and fanfic fantasy when Bonney doesn’t join more less Yamato comes back and has her time in the light… Can’t wait and telling you right now I told you so…😕

Even if you don't agree with what morj says, you have to acknowledge the effort he puts into each theory, and especially the evidence he uses. These aren't just loose correlations, he's looked at the history of the story and shown how similar Bonnie is to every other strawhat before they became a strawhat, and how different her case is to other strawhat candidates. While I don't think she will join, simply because I've been burned too much over this exact topic, this definitely makes me more accepting of the idea of her joining.

The raid did fail, I’m a visitor from the best timeline, where wano was a 15 year long mega ark. It was common to hear things like ,” One Piece, you mean that wano show?” Seven new crew members joined, all hot girls with enjoyable side boob. Zoro killed kaido, luffy had a one on one against big mom after law and kid died fighting her. Sanji died. They then used the ancient weapon pluton to attack the secret underground entrance to the world of hell, where zoro is the one to wrestle sanjis soul back to the overworld. While he was down there luffy and the crew held off the world government for two years defending wano. In this time momonosuke grew to be strong enough to defend wano and Yamato leaves with carrot, otama was aged up, and four characters apparently you didn’t even meet in this timeline join as well. One piece lasts for 38 more years, Oda dies after 32 years however, so his son continues the story his father left behind, based on his notes and many many stories of what he planned to do. Surprisingly his son was an even better mangaka than his legendary father. The story concludes with the unification of the world, and the straw hats use the planet as a spaceship, as the one piece was the key that unlocks the ancient tech from the past, which is the world being used as a spaceship. Odas son continues the story for the rest of his life with luffy eventually dying while protecting his son. Buffy. The story of two piece takes over as they try to find their partner planet, somewhere in the universe.

Always happy to see Morj being the rational one (and the only one who saw Yamato and her chances objectively, instead of letting the hype get to his head like everyone else). Wano was the arc where her story (in regards to becoming a full Strawhat) had to be resolved. And as the chapters went by, we saw that even Wano didn't seem to focus that much on her. Her relevance was always limited. But since she was so cool/hot, people pretended not to see it. Based on her characterization, she was not going to have another arc centered on her story, and that's a massive difference between her and Bonney. Bonney's character 100% feels like its got a much wider scope than just the arc she met the SHs in, and her story actually is connected to the main story at large. Yamato meeting Ace when he visited Wano, and Oden's journal, were both aspects that could simply be part of the Wano storyline, rather than the main one in general. Now obviously Im not saying Bonney's definetly going to join. She could very easily work like another Law and become an ally. But the point is she already has more things in her favour than Yamato did. It was always baffling to me how some people really thought that a character yelling "I want to join! I want to join!" was an argument on favour of them joining, instead of the opposite.

You could also argue that Bonnie is like an Amalgamation of all the prior candidates. The pink haired princess Rebecca, The tragedy of being a member of a race who suffered Genocide like Carrot. Especially if her dad is Lunarian. And the strength of a competent fighter with more fleshed out character motivation. Similar to Yamato. And her dad literally caused the time skip narratively, so that would be a great way to tie in the middle to the end of the story overall. Giving her proper weight as a final choice. It's the best choice I've seen so far.

What I like about your videos is that, wether I agree or not, it is still always well argued and genuinely raises my level of understanding and appreciation for the plot. And I was never good in literature in school (more at science and art or sport) but things like One Piece or Harry Potter and so bring so much excitement into these "studies" that I somehow still got good at it, of course long after I finished school. Haha.

I think most likely the next crew-member would have to be: 1. Someone from a Special Race 2. Most likely another female 3. Someone with a Sad Backstory and an Original Personality 4. Someone with a dream somehow related to the One Piece/Adventure

Not gonna lie, this video makes me think less of your critical thinking abilities. Everything about Bonney revolves around saving her dad. Her dad's body is in Mary Geoise and his memories are on egghead. Traveling with Luffy would just take her farther away from her goal. None of the strawhats have goals that are actively hindered by sticking with the crew. She gains absolutely nothing by staying with the crew. Also, she has no role on the ship. That is something every crewmate must have and she is missing it.
