I was a little skeptical at first with Wano, the most Japanese arc, having the strongest Christian parallels. However, it fits so much more considering Christianity’s history in Isolationist Japan. Those who practiced Christianity were persecuted, often they were mockingly crucified similar to Yasuie. Since they could not worship in public, they met in secret, also similar to the rebels in Wano. As soon as Morj mentioned it, all I could see were the parallels.

13 crew members also makes sense just on the fact that whenever SH has their cool avengers assemble moment, 6 on one side and 6 other with luffy at the center looks way better than 4 on one side and 5 on the other.

One interesting point is that Jesus Christ is associated with two animals in the bible, the lion and the lamb, and coincidentally those animals are the Figurehead of the Merry and the Sunny.

The dragon theme fits Vivi way more. I’ll explain shortly. Momonosuke and Yamato are splitting Oden’s wills of freedom on the seas and protecting Wano. So one has to protect Wano and the other must be free on the sea. I don’t see anyway both go, and Yamato is the only one who fits the dog Zodiac. Dragons are fabled to be the bringers of rain, and this parallel shows up very clearly when Luffy defeats Crocodile. Vivi screams at everyone to stop fighting, and that’s exactly when the rain started to fall. Her leadership brought the rain. So Yamato - Dog Vivi - Dragon Carrot - not the Rabbit, but the Rat. Rats are tricksters, and the zodiac doesn’t go by appearance but by actions. Chopper would be the rabbit due to his medical prowess, and the fact that tanuki are called bearcats in Japanese. We saw Gombe, the rabbit acting like a cat, in Enies Lobby blur the line between rabbit and cat, so this would be a fair assessment.

Man, a full analysis of Luffy’s character from Morj would be amazing. I think when it comes to his character, Luffy is always overlooked and underrated since everyone simplifies him to goofy stretchy boi. When in actuality, his character is much much deeper than that

it does fit for both Carrot, Yamato and Momonosuke but I think you did miss something. Their is another person who also fits the dragon for the zodiac and that is Vivi. As of recently, we learned that Vivi's family were Celestia Dragons who refused to join them at Marie Joise. As she has come back into relevancy with the Reverie arc and her fate is unknown. I feel like if the strawhats find out she's in danger, they will go to rescue her and be under their protection putting her under their protection.

Mathematically 12 crew members makes a lot of sense. Four for each leg of the journey. Four for each tier of strength (high/monster, mid, low). Two equal split of six members per side (while the Captain does his own thing). Four groups of three that can each tackle a different corner of an island. 12 plus the Captain works well.

I think the last 3 straw hats will be all non human species. East blue had 4 "regular" people. Grand line had 4 "special" humans (choppers "human" fruit is a loophole). Jinbe being the start of the new world may be a sign of different species joining the crew. So it's possible for it to still include Yamato and carrot as crew being an oni and mink respectively. I think the remaining crew member will be either a giant, or, if they can't have one because they have one in the grand fleet, the last member will be someone from the 3 eyed people. Possibly pudding.

As much as I would like to see Momo join strawhats, as a parallel to Oden joining Roger, I think it would be similar to the situation of Vivy where he also would later join them once they stabilize their country after beating Kaido. Thats because some say that events/stories before and after the time skip reflects each other. Thats why I think Momo's situation would be mirror for Vivy's.

While I like the idea of 12 crew members= 12 disciples. To further go with the parallels between them, it'd potentially mean one of the strawhats will be a traitor similar to how one of the disciples betrayed Jesus in the Bible. Also, this could've been foreshadowed by Kanjuro's betrayal of Oden as you mentioned how the scabbards, plus Shinobu and Toki, make up 12 disciples.

Also, I don’t know if it may be related to Luffy being a Messiah but I was thinking that Pedro’s name, who sacrificed himself for Luffy, means Peter in spanish, as in St. Peter. Maybe that could have been another hint from Whole Cake Island Arc

On a since of themes for the strawhats which is something I strongly believe. The east blue strawhats all have very similar themes. Same thing with Chopper, Robin, Franky, and Brook all being monsters. Jinbe has the inherited will of Queen Otohime. Momo and Yamato both have the inherited will of Oden and Carrot has the inherited will of Pedro. But this is just my theory of course so take it or leave it.

If this theory does come to pass, do you think there will be a Judas in the straw hat crew as well? It's a touchy subject because I don't think Oda would make one of the straw hats renounce their faith in Luffy as Pirate King, but maybe we could get a similar story line to Nami/Usopp/Robin/Sanji when they all respectively "left" the crew with their own complex, selfless desires.

I always thought the theories of 13 straw hats and the one for 10 can both be true. I think Blackbeard's ten titanic captains are proof that Luffy needs at least ten crew mates, but these need to be 10 people capable of fighting and theorfore can't include cabin boys and apprentices so I always thought that there would be 10 fighters on the crew and 2 more non combatants (maybe Tama and momo,) then Luffy

My problem with smoker joining is what is tashigi gonna do she’s literally smoker Partner and shares the same sense of justice as smoker so if you want smoker to join tashigi has to come as package deal every time we have seen smoker we see tashigi

Having a giant wouldn't really be feasible for the strawhat crew because you know their ship is not built to have a giant lol, just wanna say that. Anyways, true we all agree we gonna have 13 crew members.

I like your zodiac idea, although one of the other characters mentioned for possible new strawhat could be interesting in this idea. That being Vivi, she could be the dragon since her family line were one of the original 20 kings and as such a celestial dragon, plus with the myth if I remember right the dragon went to help a village so it didn't finish where everyone thought it would, which could be a nice parallel since Vivi stayed back to help her kingdom before eventually coming back to the crew and as such not joining when we as the fandom thought she would.

I like you raise the idea of the Christianity reference because I notice it as well a long time ago, just some hints and not very concrete, can't formulate some meaning wholesome idea. You make it more clear in a referencing. I like it. About 13 followers, about 10 years ago, I saw some Japanese speaking fans once theorized that there would be 13 strawhats at the end. Because no matter the villians or navy loves to call the strawhats crew as "mugiwara ichimi" (麦わら帽子　一味）, which interprets as "Strawhat group" or "Strawhat crew". But ichimi can also pun as ichi mi which is 1 and 3. In considering Oda has a thing in word pun, so some Japanese fans speculate the total number of crew member altogether should be 13 members, including Luffy. If the speculation somehow true, it matches with your theory as well.

Blackbeard has Ten Titanic Captains, making 11 total officers. Luffy currently has nine crewmembers, making 10 total. I think because the numbers are so close, and that BB is the final pirate antagonist, it makes sense that every Strawhat would get a 1v1. Which to me would suggest exactly one more crew member.

I’ve been on board with the idea that Carrot, Momo/Yamato, and especially Smoker will join the crew by the end of the story - thanks to your wonderful theory about Smoker and his role in the story. I believe we’ll get EITHER Momo or Yamato (my bets/hopes are with the latter), as someone has to stay behind and rule/lead Wano. Seeing as how we’re currently experiencing Momo’s coming of age story, I think it would be more fitting for him to stay behind and be advised by all of the scabbards.

I've been losing faith that Carrot joins the crew but if there's hope I'll take it lol. Yamato and Carrot would be great additions to the crew since we only have two females and also they'd be a great help in combat. Momo joining would be great for him because he just lost 20 years of his life, he's still a child in an adult body. I think being around the strawhats would be a great help with him getting to be a chance to explore his childish inner fun while at the same time maturing him and getting him ready to be a strong leader for Wano.

The presence of Christianity in One Piece is a fascinating and unexplored part of the series. On that note, it's interesting that Luffy came from Goa when the real life region of Goa, India had an important role in St. Francis Xavier going to Japan.

Yo this sounds crazy and is very believable and if it does come true will be great but one thing scares me. Luffy will then need to have his own Judas and I can deffo see that coming as Oda loves the betrayal arc it’s used a lot in one piece, Corazon betrayed Doffy, Kanjuro and orochi betrayed Oden, Blackbeard betrayed Whitebeard. Leads me to think who will betray luffy

One other possible detail that may support this theory, is the potential pattern by which the Straw Hats were named. This is unconfirmed but it fits suspiciously well. It would make sense for Oda to have planned this in his manuscript There are 26 letters of the alphabet, if divided into 2, that makes 13. Group the letters into 2s and pick 1 of the 2 for the first letter of the name A or B = B for Brook C or D = C for Chopper E or F = F for Franky G or H = ? I or J = J for Jinbe K or L = L for Luffy M or N = N for Nami O or P = ? Q or R = R for Robin S or T = S for Sanji U or V = U for Usopp W or X = ? Y or Z = Z for Zoro

The only thought on my head after watching this video is that one of the straw hats will betray luffy. Pretty much impossible or inconceivable but still an interesting thought.

This was already my headcanon EVER SINCE CHAPTER 861 with the cover of Nekomamushi with... 13 CATS, I am extremely disappointed for you not pointing the MOST OBVIOUS argument. Sure what you mention is all fine and dandy on a philosophical level but the cover chapter is waaaaay more tangible. If you look at it we can CLEARLY see cats imitating the Straw Hats: Chopper in the foreground, Nami with the parasol, Zoro with the sash and sake bottle, Sanji with the suit and JINBEI (who had NOT joined at that time) with the cape and sake up. The others are a bit difficult to make up who's who (lol) but this is a CLEAR foreshadow, just like how we got a PINK DRAGON and the Kozuki crest in the cover waaaaaay back in Water 7 somewhere.

One problem I have with all the ideas of people joining is that I don't like the idea of adding crewmembers so late in the story. Jimbe at least was introduced pre-timeskip and even foreshadowed in East Blue. It's like an rpg when you get a new party member late game, you already have your party dynamics established so they get benched.

I've been believing for quite some time that Yamato is more dedicated to Momo than Luffy, and if given the choice, she stays or goes with Momo over Luffy. But, given Momo's reaction to Oden's journal, and his statement of "it seems I can't die here" (the way the scans stated it), implied to me that he would travel more with the Straw Hats. Momo goes with them for an as of yet unknown purpose, Yamato is his retainer, and Carrot goes to help Luffy fulfil the Minks dream of the Dawn of the world. I really want this to be the case. And not just the 4-4-4 theory at first glance, but there's also an theory of Male, Female, Male, Male. Or in this case, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji...Choppper, Robin, Franky, Brook....Jinbe, Carrot, Momo, Yamato (as she is refered to in series as male).

Hey. I am totaly on board with both theories (444 and Zodiac). There is also a parallel theory to the 444 that you did not mention which I really like. The new crew members also match 4 character types that are recruited in the same order on each sea. On every sea the character types are as follows: 1st: Monster chained or bound in someway: Zoro (East Blue), Chopper (Grand Line), Jinbe (New World) 2nd: Female with the tragic past family loss and lonely life: Nami (East Blue), Robin(Grand Line), Bonney (New World) I believed she would join since she escaped from the world goverment and was first shown alone in hiding. 3rd: Funny craftsman: Usopp (East Blue), Franky (Grand Line), Maybe one of the Stella (New World) They are all quirky and as scientist they are great craftsmen 4th: Pervert gentleman: Sanji (East Blue), Brook (Grand Line), who knows This structure might be why Carrot and Yamato ended up not joining. Carrot is part of the Straw Hat fleet as the leader of the mink. Same for Momo with the samurai. And Yamato is not of full time crew member just like Oden with the Roger Pirates. She is Oden after all.

I really like the zodiac signs idea. I've never really put a lot of stock in the chapter 1 Luffy talking about how he'd want 10 crewmembers, since that is so early One Piece that can easily be rewritten. It's a small piece, but I just imagine Oda handwaving that down the line. Why wouldn't Luffy want more nakama? He's always finding new friends.

You know, speaking as a Christian, there have been a lot of Christian tones throughout most of the adventure. So it wouldn’t surprise me one of the crew mates would betray Luffy like what happened with White Beard. The question is, which straw hat will it be? Will Cesar the Clown end up joining at the end only to betray Luffy?

Yes, Carrot & Yamato for Nakama! Although I'm not sure about the idea of Momo. I always had mixed feelings on that one. Partly because I would like to see Vivi return as a full-time member of the crew instead of being an away reserve member. But most importantly, I like the concept or idea of the last 4 being members of marginalized races like Fishmen, Mink, or Oni/Ogre. Jimbei, Carrot, and Yamato fit that idea perfectly. So what marginalized race could count as the Dragon, Lunarians of course. Because we saw how King could make flame dragons attacks just because of his race. Though this would rely heavily on the idea that King is not the last of his kind. Which could be possible in some of the less explored spots of the New World, like Elbaf.

Never understood, why people complain, that a lot of the Straw Hats get neglected and at the same time want even more people to join…personally I hope there aren’t any more additions to the crew so we can continue fleshing out the ones we already have

Staw Hats are called mugiwara no Ichimi (a word for crew) but that's also a pun for the number 13, thus meaning thirteen straw hats. Also we have parallels with the gigantomachy/titanomachy where a similar number of groups fight against each other.

I have a mythological theory about Strawhats and Blackbeards crew that somewhat correlates whith this theory. The idea is that Strawhats represent different "evil" mythological/religious figures and monsters and Blacberads crew represent different "good" mythological/religious figures, but in the story of One Piece this is turned upside down. This would make Blackbeard a false messiah/anti-christ (Whitebeard saying Blackbeard is not the one Roger is waiting for) and Luffy the real one. Some of these ideas I have seen relating to Straw Hats, but I have never seen the mirror that is Blackbeard being discussed trough this lens. Now the interesting thing is speculating about who represent who in the story. 1. Luffy - Sun Wu Kong (Jorney to the west, mischief, many think he is evil but story leaves things about him more nuanced) 2. Zoro -Asura (duh) 3. Nami - Witch (maybe there is something more spesific that can be speculated, for example Hecate) 4. Usopp - Tengu/Loki (mischief and lies are important. I also remember there being an African god of lies of witch name I can`t recall. Mayby there is something there. Also Judas if traitor&liar can be connected) 5. Sanji - Lucifer (noble fallen from grace, might have a conflict with Robin as a lightbringer. So maybe going the Satan-route is possible for Sanji.) 6. Chopper-Behemoth (greatest monster in all the land) 7. Robin-Beelzebub/Devil/Satan/Lucifer/Lilith (there are many options. Lilith seems cool now that I think about it, her being cast away from paradise by God, spawning demons (knowlege?)) 8. Franky-Frankenstains Monster/Dr Frankenstain (Not strictly mythological, but Franky being so techincally advanced could be a representation of more modern fiction) 9. Brook- Grim Reapper/Death (pretty obvious) 10. Jinbei-Leviathan (Great Sea Monster) 1. Blacbeard - God (number three, holy trinity. This is pretty much the realization that gave me this idea) 2. Jesus Burgess - Jesus (Pretty obvious, but this opens the rest of the holy trinity being part of Blackbeards crew even if Blackbeard represents them all coming together as God) 3. Shiryu - ??? (not really sure about this one, maybe the Holy Spirit tying him closer to Blacbeard as the second strongest, maybe with his name being Shiryu somethin eastern like Susano) 4. Van Augur - ??? (not sure about this either, but maybe something christian. Dude literaly has a cross as an eye. Holy spirit? The angel that told Mary she is pregnant? Odin because of the eye?) 5. Avalo Pizzaro- ??? ( Yet again, I`m not sure. The King thing might be a clue. Again maybe Odin, Zeus is already in the story. King Nero? Cu Chulain?) 6. Laffitte - Angel (wings. Also he was used as a messenger, so maybe even Hermes. Angel can be more specified. For example one of the arch-angels) 7. Catarina Devon - Amaterasu ( There is probably million other possibilities. Kitsune is not neccecaryli good even thou there is a link betveen Cat and it) 8. Sanjuan Wolf - Atlas (Not nececerilly a "good" entity. I`m sure there are other possibilities. Osiris? Ra?) 9. Vasco Shot - Dionysos (Always drunk, jesterhat connects him to theater witch Dionysos is also a god of) 10. Doc Q - Pale Rider/Death ( Pale rider is pretty obvious. I also used Death in Brook, but maybe Death is more neutral while Grim Reaper is more pacanic?) This is anything but ready, but I think there is really something there. There are also several problems, one being it`s harder to speculate about Blacbeard pirates because we haven`t spent that much time with them. Another is that my mind goes easilly to Greek/Scandinavian/Christian/Japanese mythology and religious figures. Maybe other people can help speculate about this topic with different knowlege of mythology. I belive there is something here, and it would be really cool seeing this speculated further. Mandatory apology, english is not my first language. So sorry about typos and other stupidity.

Also something to consider about Robin’s animal. In the SBS, Oda showed us what the Straw Hats used as the signatures they gave to Bartolomeo, and in Robin’s, she drew a rooster along with her name.

Carrot will definitely be joining because history will repeat itself due to Dogstorm & Cat Viper stowaway twice. Carrot had stowaway once so no telling she'll do it again. Yamato is already being seen by fans as a Straw Hat candidate, and shows that she is destined to help Luffy achieved his dream after that conversation she had with Ace. Otama might end up joining as well due to the promise Ace made to her that next time he'll return she can join. So maybe Luffy will eventually find out about this, who knows.

I've maintained that the 3 we'll get are Carrot, Yamato, and Smoker in order to have every race and faction represented in the final crew to unite the world. Yamato and Carrot are obvious, but for Smoker we need a marine at the end. When the world government is toppled it'll be greatly important that someone highly respected among the general public like Smoker is there to help ease the average citizens mind so it doesn't look like pirates taking over/complete anarchy.

Not sure if I read it on a data book/Vivre card or wherever but all the characters are listed by crew or affiliation, etc. Anyway, when it comes to strawhat pirates there were 13 slots, with the last 2 being vacant. Apparently Vivi is an honorary strawhat since her name was also on there. I even brought this up in the comments several times back then, but, no one took any notice of me.
