Hey there brother, would you recommend air layering it at the inverse taper? I’d love to see that. I recently did that to a portulacaria afra. It’s doing well. Thank you for the videos. I’m learning a lot from you.

Jerome, great job as usual. I think you need to bring out the inner beauty of this tree. Your trimming and wiring helped but then I don't see the beauty yet, however, I do think the tree looks a bit sad but what do I know! I do think that you will do a great job of it when it grows in the future. The pot appears to be on the small side, the tree looks very masculine with the branch structure a bit on the feminine side. Can you explain what am I getting at? This is what I see and I imagine there must be some explanation as to what I'm trying to say. Good luck and thanks for sharing, sincerely, Phil👍😍

Hey Phil, That was my goal to make the tree look sad. I wanted to make it look like it had a really tough time, mission accomplished! :) you are right, the tree is very masculine but in my opinion so is the pot with those big door knockers, the Dragon face and feet and the sand paper finish. I think you are right that the pot is slightly on the smaller side and will be uppotted in the near future! Thank you Phil for your kind words and support!

@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Jerome, thanks for the info I appreciate it and now I have a better understanding as to what the tree will finally look like. I can see your thoughtful preparation for the future. Again, thanks for the understanding. Phil 😍👀

The inverse taper ruins it unfortunately. Cool species though

A small thing such as inverse taper doesn't ruin it in my opinion, they naturally grow like that.

Just a matter of opinion. I truly enjoy your work. Just not my favorite that’s all. Thanks for the video. Do you use organic fertilizer?
@abdulbaasith5972
@abdulbaasith5972 Ай бұрын
Bonsai is miniature old tree, mimicking big tree in wild. Many old operculicarya just grow like that in the wild. So it doesn't ruin it at all.

Isn’t that reversed taper bud? Is that a big NO NO ?
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply

Hey Eric! It sure does have reversed taper, but that is how they grow and doesn't mother nature have reversed taper?

What do you think about using the lowest long branch as a thread graft in the thin portion of the trunk?
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply 3 жыл бұрын
I think your thought process is right on point, and it would definitely work! However, this species naturally grows like that so I kind of like that and wanted to highlight it.

do they really love water? I bought one and the seller said to only water every 3-4 months.. please help
@VincentTanner
@VincentTanner 3 жыл бұрын
They can be watered more frequently than that. I recommend searching KZfaq for Logees Greenhouse video on the elephant tree.
@reywashere5284
@reywashere5284 2 жыл бұрын
It seems that less frequent watering tends to produce more knobby trunks, but more frequent water makes them grow faster.

what type and size (gauge) wire do you recommend?
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply

Hello Jerome You may want to Air Layer this tree because of reversed Taper very bad. Or you could have done Tread graft the bottom Trunk to thick it up to get rid of that Taper problem you have. But you took too many branches. So Air layer it
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Gregory, This is why I left that sacrifice branch on the bottom left, it will buff out that inverse taper in no time! Also, this species naturally grows like that with an inverse taper.
