Hi, is shari make the trunk couldnt be thick?

HI there, Yes, bonsai trees can still grow and stay healthy even with shari techniques. Shari is when parts of the bark are purposely removed from the trunk and branches to create a weathered, aged look. It's done to imitate the effects of aging or natural damage. Careful and precise shari won't harm the tree's overall health. The living parts of the tree, like the roots, branches, and some bark, will keep supporting its growth and well-being.

@@WazakuraJapan is it effect the grow rate? I have intention to shari my juniper, but i still want to see it grow thicker trunk. Is it posible?

@@TheRoadrunner0610 The presence of Shari on the trunks poses no issue. However, it is important to note that when the bonsai does not have a Shari, its trunk tends to thicken more rapidly. On the other hand, once a Shari is created, the dead part of the trunk will not experience further growth.

Hello, aren't these chisels for woodcarving? Because a trader sells the same chisels to Kawazei and emphasizes that they are only for woodcarving, although I am a little skeptical

HI! That is a very interesting question. The artisan we work with makes 2 items that are very similar in appearance. One is for woodcarving and ones are for bonsai. The ones we for purchase in the Wazakura Japan website and featured in this video are for bonsai. The difference is not in looks (as you pointed, they look alike) but in size and thickness of the tool. Hope that helps!
