Bontrager's new Aeolus Pro 37 wheels are a huge step up in quality and performance. These bring additional speed and aerodynamics along with a pretty reasonable price point.

Yes, the AEOL Pro 37 are good sets of wheels, fast, I put them on my 2020 Domane SL 5 and wow the bike now weighs 2 lbs less (from front and back wheels vs OEM Affinity) using 28c Continental Gator Skin. They work great. Was going to put the Pro 37 on my 2015 Domane 4.5 (Front has 15mm shaft/scewer), of course it won't fit (store is calling Trek Wisconsin to see if they have 12mm end cap and skewers/shaft retrofit). The AEOL Pro 37 and the AEOL Pro 3 both have 12mm through end cap (front and rear). The AEOL Pro 37 rear wheel works fine (Domane 4.5 has 12mm rear wheel shaft), fits nicely. BTW, with that said, I really like the AEOL Pro 3V, it has 25mm inside wheel width (clincher). When I put 28c Continental Gator skin on it, it makes the 28c a little wider (into a 31.5mm )!!! Still retain the 28c fast rolling (at apparent 31.5 mm width) and gives a little more confidence on cornering sand laden and gravel bike paths (Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach CA). Another BTW, the Pro 3V turns the 32c continental gator skin into a whopping 35.5mm (will let you know after a few hundred miles using AEOLUS Pro 3V with 32c tires - apparent 35.5 mm when measured). Is the 35.5 mm too wide and potentially eating more wattages? Riding 20 miles tests each with AEOLUS Pro 3V with 32c versus AEOLUS Pro 37 with 28c indicated no difference in speed. Not statistic significantly different. So, for now, I'll be using the AEOLUS Pro 37 with 32c tires: Soft on the road, retaining fast rolling, grippy on the corner and capable of Gravel with cushion ride feel.

Nat S. Interesting info, thanks. I also have an Emonda ALR 4 and might consider putting the Pro 37s on that and then get the 37v/32 tyres for my Domane. Lots to consider. I’d appreciate your thoughts as you try out your various set ups.

In the UK I’ve just ordered the Edmonda SLR 6 with mechanical Ultegra and these wheels. Price wise the 6 seems to hit the sweet spot of OCLV800 carbon with decent accessories without the £10k price tag? Do you agree? I’m informed a size 58 will weigh 7.36kg just 500g more than the SLR9 Red Etap!

Great choice. I just bought de Emonda SL7, while doubting about de SL6 Pro :-). I would have fitted the SL6 with the 37's, because of the weight-penalty of the 35's and the 37's being brandnew design/R&D/based on the RSL's...when do you get yours? Mine is in in about 4 weeks :-)

...and I would add an other question if you don't mind: what do you think about mounting an xxx6 (or the new version of it if it will be available in the near future) only at the rear of an Emonda SRL7, to have a better aero performance without compromising crosswind stability keeping the Aeolus 37 at the front?

Nice video! Would you do a comparison between this wheels and the pro 50 please? If you can only afford 1 set and you ride in a mix of flat and hills what would you recommend? I was even thinking about getting the 50 for the back and the 37 for the front. The one reason why Im not 100% sure about the 50s is because of the hubs. Thank you so much for your time.
@anandjansen8002
@anandjansen8002 3 жыл бұрын
50's are pretty stable unless you are going fast on decends and/or with crosswinds. If you combine those two you have to wear a daiper when going 50kph in a decend :-D I just bought de Emonda SL7 with these wheels, and had 62mm Reynolds Strike on my previous bike (BMC TMR01). Based on my experience, everything above 45mm is an aeroset, but not comfortable for allday use. The aero-gains from 37 to 50 are also marginal. Only if you cycle above 35kph all the time...if so: kudo's to you!

Tough call. Same hub internals so that is quite nice. The Specialized use j-bend spokes that generally I prefer over the straight pull on the Bontys. That said, I know from experience that the Bontrager TLR system is about the best in the business so that would push me Bony especially for tubeless setups.

@Jamesthebikeguy
@Jamesthebikeguy 2 жыл бұрын
Might be semantics here, but you are correct you cannot put a SRAM freehub body on a Bontrager wheel. You can however use/install a Bontrager XDR freehub body to use SRAM XDR Cassettes. (XDR Freehub body for this wheel is Part# W580844) SRAM doesn't make the freehub body, only the standard. Bontrager makes lots of freehub bodies for different standards.
