As a lifelong mythology geek I would just like to add that Anita may have slightly (totally not deliberately) cut the Pandora story a little short there. As Rag (screw it, I can meme too), pointed out Pandora was a catspaw for Zeus to punish humanity because Zeus was wrathful. However after Pandora opens the container and looses plagues and suffering and darkness ending the golden age she opens the 'box' a second time, because she hears something else moving around inside/is prompted to by the gods (stories differ). On the second opening of the 'box' she releases Hope into the world. She ends the golden age of Greek mythology and she also gives them the tool to improve their lot in life. Pandora is a tool of divine retribution, she shows that curiosity can be a bad thing, she explains why a world created by divine beings contains suffering and she ALSO provided us the means to rise up in a world of troubles and dangers. Prior to this incident the world was perfect and as such something had to happen that would make the perfection of early Greek myth change to reflect the real world in which the Greeks lived, as such someone had to be made to be different to the status quo of the world at that point. This is not a vilification of women. Oh no the meanie men said that a male god deliberately orchestrated events to punish humanity using a woman, oh no the meanie misogynists wrote a tale of how women gave us hope. Typhon, Cronus, any number of evil rulers are portrayed poorly in Greek myth. Some women in there are evil, such as Cerci. Some are victims of male aggression and societal unfairness Medusa, Medusa was not a cut and dry monster even to the Greeks, she was a tragic figure. Oh, but look it is a theme throughout beliefs!
