the thing with this doc is how boogie clearly likes feeling like his life is cool enough for a doc but I feel like everything mentioned in the doc has already been talked abt by any youtuber in history (Mike's editing is amazing tho, hope you get an interesting person for the next one).

For boogie to change he first has to not explain/tell people that from now on he's going to do good, but rather just show people. Stop reacting to himself, stop reacting to people, and take the initiative to change. Most importantly, stop feeling sorry for himself.

I subscribed to Boogie way back for his videos on gaming. He was known for just talking about things. The game industry is rife with problems he can talk about, especially now where every other major release is either unplayable or packed with paid content after you pay $70. He can make videos about new Magic sets, there's way too many. He can stream himself playing Magic and review sets and cards and have his hobby pay for itself at the very least. I hate to see it, I did used to really enjoy his content, he was in a way sort of the original Papa Gut for me, you could turn on a video and just listen to him talk about a topic for 20 minutes while you did other stuff. Now all he wants to talk about is how shitty his life is after he made more than most ever will in their lives in a few years and then blew it all in half that time. Depression can be a self-perpetuating cycle but no one can take the steps to get himself out of it but him.

I really liked the documentary. If you're viewing it as a platform for Boogie to redefine his image then it's obviously super cringey, but that wasn't what I saw when I watched it. What I saw was a portrait of a narcissist who is incapable of seeing how transparent his manipulation attempts are to the rest of us. He's so wrapped up in a Boogie-centric view of the world, so deep in his main character syndrome, that he thinks he can invite a documentary film crew into his house and still control the narrative. He starts the movie "naked" to appear open and vulnerable. In broad daylight he makes an obviously fake attempt to get a "real job" (which the documentary clearly frames as disingenuous) because being unemployable is part of the script that he wrote for his story. He's constantly saying over-the-top hateful things about himself because it's his impression of what he thinks a depressed person would sound like. He exaggerates a mushroom trip so his movie will have a spiritual awakening part in it. These events are so clearly premeditated, planned, and executed for our benefit that you can just feel Mike's frustration that literally nothing this man says or does comes from a place of honesty. Every second of every day is an exhausting, never-ending act to avoid a single second of real vulnerability at all costs. This is a movie about the futility of trying to tell an honest story about a fake person.
