Thanks for the shout out! If you like book 1 and 2 of WoT, the quality jumps up so much from 3 onwards.

Good to know! I found 1 and 2 somewhat slow and derivative.

I've heard that from a lot of different people. I'm looking forward to it. Elderlings first though!

Nice haul. Nice video. I've got the China Mieville. But I'm working through Trotsky's 'The History of the Russian Revolution' and Orlando Figes 'A People's Tragedy' at the moment + The Eastern Front by Nick Lloyd for a purely military take. I've got a few more Revolution/Civil War books. Plus Anne Reid's 'A Nasty Little War', which is about the Western powers invasion of parts of Russia to try and stop the Revolution. Both The Eastern Front and A Nasty Little War are from the library. I've mentioned before I'm doing a readalong with Christy Luis - Dostoevsky in Space of the Trotsky book with live shows every month for as long as it takes us. So I'm making this a bit of a project. Someone needs to do an up to date translation of Nikolay Chernyshevsky's 'What is to be Done?' but I'm still trying to see if I've missed one. I've finished Part One of the Figes. It's excellent. So much information contextualising what is coming.

I've got A People's Tragedy planned for July and I think Clare is reading it with me (a commenter and historathon2024 poster). Good to hear you're enjoying it. I'm reading Natasha's Dance right now and it's fantastic. A Nasty Little War looks great. There's a copy of that in my future. I looked at the Trotsky book in the shop last week. Maybe one day. Christy Luis' book tastes seem to align with mine at least 90%! Dostoevsky, Russian history AND Brandon Sanderson! I mean come on!

I really admire China's creative writing. But his political works are just average. Yes, they aren't as dull as the typical academic tome. But October was just okay. Worth a read. But forgettable afterwards. At least that's what I got from it. Maybe you'll see something I missed.

Thanks for the feedback. I figure if I read about the same period in history from enough different writers it will actually start to stick in my brain!
