On the latest Mormon Media Reviews on MBR, brothers Hayden & Jackson Paul discuss their upcoming KZfaq docu-series "The Stick of Joseph". For nearly 200 years, The Book of Mormon has been criticized in both religious and secular circles who claim that it is nothing more than a fraud. But blindly accepting the opinions of others is not enough for the Paul brothers. For this reason, they have set out on a journey spanning the globe to find out once and for all if The Book of Mormon truly is history or hoax.

There have been a lot of.bad things said about Tim Balard, having worked with him is any of it true? Thank you for rescuing the children. My heart aches for them. I fear for my grandchildren. We were riding down our country road the other day and some people in a minivan came around the corner from behind and drove very slowly and video tape them. He looked to be a young hispanic man. I feel the scouts have targeted them. Three little blue eyed blonds.

I agree with Steve. It's important to have the conversations. Great conversation, gentlemen! I appreciate the paradox of both the humility to say I don't know and also of the guests saying if you can receive and answer why not "seek" that answer. It's difficult to receive answers to questions you don't ask. And takes faith for both, to both seek and to be still. The single doctrine in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that, for me, lays all other churches aside is the doctrine of work for the dead. I see it as essential for the same reasons that the brother mentioned. More of God's children have died not knowing his Son Jesus the Christ than than have known him. How can an all loving God provide justice for that young old boy that dies of dysentery or the generations that have died all over the world since the beginning of time not knowing him. To me this is the most glorious doctrine of my Faith.

@@valeried7210 Things were different 50 years ago. I am aware that mainstream Protestantism has lost over 50% of its membership in the past 60 years or so. All the new Evangelicals and LDS had to come from somewhere. There is also the difference between what lay members actually believe, and official doctrines. There is a channel called Ready to Harvest hosted by a professor of religion at a Baptist college that has some videos on the topic. Basically general population surveys indicate very few Americans believe in Eternal Conscious Torment, even though it is the predominate official view of traditional mainline Protestant churches. Which might explain why so many have converted to LDS and Evangelical churches.

Hebrew prophecy is complex and layered. Ezekiel 37 can refer to both the reuniting of the tribes and their records. Isaiah 7:1-16 is a good example. This prophecy to Ahaz gives him a timeline concerning the political alliance of Samaria and Ephraim that would fall within a few years. Isaiah likens it to a young woman having a child that is still too young to know good from evil when both kingdoms fall. But in that prophecy is also a reference to Christ, who is called Immanuel- "God with us."

Sorry to break it to you, not the first of its kind, a Brother Skousen was told by the Church back in the late 80's to stop producing videos to prove the book of Mormon. I had watched the series on my mission and yes there was a LOT of info that proved the book to be true, however the church stressed that faith is needed to for new members to come forth. They stopped producing vids because of this. They were able to find a cave that showed men who had to hide to get away from something, they found a Temple within so many feet of Lehi's tree, yes a tree is named Lehi. The Temple had a baptismal faunt. Very interesting, however today I believe the cave has been distroyed, kind of the like the Temple that was found in Tennessee that was built after Solomons Temple, it is now underwater because they built a dam. Other people have already been to parts of the land where they believe the boat was built, they found bee hives high up on the cliffs that they would have had to climb to collect the honey.

I could be wrong about this, but I don’t think God gave us our personalities. Instead, our intelligence was the embryo of our personality, which developed further as we progressed in the Pre-mortal. Our spirit selves were our personalities. I think spiritual gifts and weaknesses were part of that personality, and we use our agency in mortality to develop toward the character of Christ, or not. Christ helps us change as we keep covenants. In fact, as we honor our covenants, we become our covenants.

Did you ever think that he is creating bridges by not joining the church. How many evangelicals would listen to him if he took one stance. Here is something to consider. And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the power of the Lamb of God, that it descended upon the saints of the church of the Lamb, and upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and they were armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.” 1 Nephi 14:14. Is it possible the saints of the church are Christians of other churches and the covenant people are LDS members. Ephesians 4:11-14 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. There is going to be a whole lot of people who survive the second coming who are not LDS. It will all work out in the end.

3rd time trying to post this comment because my phone was too slow loading edits and then the comment gets deleted... These guys have at least one evangelical subscribed to their channel - me. 🙂 I think it looks interesting and fun. As I'm learning about LDS beliefs, it seems like they have a large media/production presence actually. I was thinking that evangelicals should have some archaeology / adventure channels and then I realized I'm already subscribed to some. Lol. "Sergio and Rhoda in Israel" have Holy Land videos, some pretty awesome drone footage recently. I also recently came across "The Wild Brothers" and this morning "Appian Media" because I was listening to something about the Mt Ebal curse tablet publication. The tablet may be the earliest reference with the words El and Yahweh together. Regarding the doctrinal discussion in the video I'd really encourage them or other LDS to do a biblical study on these words. I think it is very strong that their use in the OT supports trinitarianism, not tri-theism. Also, LDS views on eternal intelligence only solve the problem of free will and God's sovereignty because we aren't created but instead the same as God. Is that a God worthy of worship? Does it fit with the God of Colossians 1? Regarding determinism if you look at time itself as this grand story that has already been written for Christ and with Him as the main character because He is the Word, the Bible describes it as a birthing story (I liked their metaphor) or all the preparations leading to a wedding, or a warrior king first rescuing some of his enemies (while we were still sinners Christ died for us) and they respond by surrendering to his reign, and then he leads them to victory over all enemies - but it is an epic battle in time, which is celebrated in eternity. I thought maybe a military metaphor fit these guys. 😊 As far as I understand it, LDS belief is this is a training op where the commander is the example, and provides a reset for the real operation they will do later. We don't tell the same story at all. But, for me knowing who God is and who we are and were before and after salvation helps to understand why the story was written to allow evil. There are Calvinists who believe all young children will be saved - MacArthur, Spurgeon, maybe others, it's only something I looked up recently. I think that it makes sense God will be gracious to those who can't reason their way to rejecting Him.

Dan McClellan of Data over Dogma has some video on the curse tablet explaining why many professionals are questioning that interpretation. He is a good source if one cares about academic study on the Hebrew Bible. I do not understand by what you mean by "provides a reset for the real operation they will do later", that doesn't correspond to any LDS teaching I have heard of. Are you suggesting LDS do not think that this life is important?
@valeried7210
@valeried7210 Жыл бұрын
@@brettmajeske3525 do you have a link to that video? I'm interested in watching it. The paper was just published yesterday and it's long so I'd be surprised if he's already responded to that. But I'm not surprised he would dispute what's initially in the news. From what I've seen of him he's definitely of the opinion that Israel never worshipped Yahweh from the beginning and that was a later invention, which the reading of the tablet in the publication definitely indirectly disputes. I think LDS believe this life is a test - much like other religions, so it's important in that way, a work to get a reward. Evangelical Christians would say no, it's actually a story about Jesus and the work he did that we never could. It's not a test; it's about our relationship to him. I called it a "reset" because Jesus defeats physical death and provides a resurrection. I know LDS beliefs aren't really a reset in general. I just couldn't think of a quick way to describe the difference in the work Jesus does. 🙂 But the main difference about salvation I think is that Jesus doesn't gain the victory over spiritual death and that's our mostly our job. In Protestant Christianity (not sure about others) - that's not the case. Spiritual death is conquered first by Christ.

Yeah man you need to look at Dan McLellan that dude will teach you all about EL. Good spot to look he was on gospel tangents recently. Think he was on here too with a woman who wrote all about the physicality of God in the bible. The tablets you speak of aren't even considered to be solid archeolgy and the claims they have made sorrounding them have not really been substantiated by any credible sources. Has that changed? I thought this was another we found chariots in the red sea type of thing.
@valeried7210
@valeried7210 Жыл бұрын
I read through the whole paper and looked at Dan McClellan's little video. There's one more paper that's supposed to come out about the outside of the tablet, which will be interesting. But this is a new method to read through lead and the epigrapher who read all the characters more recently has a reputation of claiming a lot. I wish they would have given a partial list of characters the other epigrapher accepted. Anyway, I think it will establish literacy at an earlier era, but maybe not the whole saying because OT scholars are not going to give up their favorite hypothesis without definitive evidence. Still if Mormons take scripture seriously, tri-theism is not supported by the names of God in the OT. 😊

@@valeried7210 Tritheisim? I am not sure what you mean by that. In any case secular scholarship has well established that the earliest text seem to suggest Jehovah as being the son of Elyon the most high. The two do not seem to have been conflated until around 7-800 BCE. Scholarly theories have their own problems of course, but I do not see how a single artifact will upset their conclusions overly much. I do know LDS are often tickled pink with the idea that ancient Hebrews recognized a Heavenly Father, Heavenly Mother, with Jehovah the creator of the world being their son. Other aspects do not line up as well, so I think LDS should be careful at embracing the secular scholarship too much. As far as the Atonement goes, Jesus absolutely conquers spiritual death, something of which humanity is clearly incapable. There is nothing in LDS theology stating Jesus only saved us from physical death. I am honestly uncertain why you think that is what LDS believe. LDS are not taught to "work for a reward". Jacob, in the Book of Mormon, clearly teaches that everything we have, including our bodies and the air we breathe, belong to God. Even if we strive with all our effort we could never pay him back for *life*, let alone resurrection and repentance. Then on top of that when we are obedient and serve his will, he blesses us even more. Jesus conquered death for us, both physical and spiritual. When we repent of our sins, what is in effect happening is that we are accepting the grace of the infinite atonement to wash us clean. We are not capable of cleansing ourselves. Yes we believe that God rewards righteousness, but not because it merits reward. Because He loves us. We do not strive to become more like Him for the reward, but because we love Him. Every soul will be brought back into the presence of our Heavenly Father, without exception. I think what may be confusing for you is that at that point LDS believe everyone will make a choice whether or not to stay. The unclean will feel too uncomfortable in the presence of perfection. All our efforts come down to the choice, to accept the purification He offers, to seek to become like Him, so that we will want to stay with Him. The work is accomplished by the merits of Christ, we just have the choice to accept it or reject it.

To say that to an evangelist is like saying to a Muslim, Jesus Christ is the Son of Allah! It would fee like blasphemy to them. LDS need to be more careful of casually mentioning these deep doctrinal beliefs to those not of our faith, as it makes them feel uncomfortable because of their views of deity.

No other Christian denomination has ever claimed such an event. (Mal 4:5-6) Again Jesus promised he would sent Elijah before he comes. Who did he go to ?? Joseph Smith. Again no other Christian denomination has claimed the event. These events are to go world wide not to be hid. ( Matt. 16:18) Jesus said that he would build his Church. Now if Jesus dose not change then his Church stays the same too. This is just some of the examples

The Book of Mormon is not the "stick of Joseph". The "stick of Joseph" is a stick or rod that represents the northern kingdom. The sticks in Ezekiel 37 do not mean scrolls. The interpretation of the sticks is given starting in verse 18. Just read the whole chapter. It is about reuniting the kingdoms. W.W. Phelps is the likely source of the stick of Joseph being the Book of Mormon idea. He got it added to D&C 27 as part of a long meandering addition to the section and now the idea will not go away. It is incorrect and destroys credibility. It is a human error.

Yeah but a rod in the bom is the Holy scriptures. It's the word of God if you want to equate it to Jesus or God's Kingdom (the first: israel and the last Gentiles) I don't think it really matters. It holds true in all 3 respects just like jesus is the word the word made flesh and u learn that through the word. Your just splitting hairs when u try to say that the stories that come out of the southern and northern kingdom are not and cannot be the words that come out of said kingdoms. The mission statement of the bom is to gather Israel and restore God's people to their rightful kingdom. I don't see a problem. Wasn't lehi people the other sheep not of this fold wasn't he part of the northern kingdom? So it's beautiful on so many levels and ur looking at it at face value where as God says that every soul is precious to him. And will be by his words and through his word it is accomplished. Personally I think you got an elementary understanding of the scriptures but that's all right for jesus Said suffer the lil children to come unto me. And they that erred will learn doctrine. The wisdom of their wise and prudent shall fail. You think all families of the earth shall be blessed has anything to do with what flag u belong weather it be north south east or west? No man it's bout the stories we tell and not the borders we claim. It's not about two kingdoms becoming one it's about becoming one as they are one. Silly rabbit trix are for kids. Could be a lovely story God told his children a midrash to put upon them the spirit of deep sleep so that when he who comes to open the eyes of ur understanding has not only saved you but saved you from yourself. God only knows but I certainly do believe the voices that cry from the dust and Joseph did too to the tune of about 16 bullets. So it is the stick of Joseph on a level u may never understand. All u gotta do with this book is make place for it in your heart where a seed can be planted. You nourish that seed by the good word having faith in him and you are promised if you do this he will manifest the truth of it unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost. This invitation is to all the world not just this one doubting Thomas. Blessed are they who have not seen and have yet believed. That includes you Steve ur on the path that leads to the fruitful tree but you still have not as yet partaken fully of it so how is it you can beckon to others and tell them it is a good fruit. What you need to tell them it is the most desirable fruit above all other fruit. And u cannot say it is true on the one hand or the other. He is the prince of peace but Jesus did not come to bring peace but a sword. This is the sword of truth and it has become one in my hand and I will not say peace until the peace that surpasses all understanding has safely enfolded all of these my brothers and sisters safely in his hands. It's real easy to split hairs it's harder to understand that every hair is numbered in the household of God. Thats what the boms about that's what the bibles about wherefore can ye doubt?

Ok I've read and reread the whole Chapter. So you're taking every verse literally in describing the gathering of Israel (as in the Southern and Northern tribes only) and with no connection whatsoever to the Book of Mormon. I understand that. But if you're going to consider every verse literally, then you need to apply that thinking to every verse and not just to the verses that happens to suit you (as we are often accused of.) Consider for example, verse 16 and 20 which specifically says the sticks contain writing... This is definitely not referring to people or tribes of people. See also verse 21 which speaks of a general and much wider dispersal of of the Children of Israel from among the heathen "whither they be gone." This is certainly not limited to those of the Southern or Northern tribes only but to the whole House of Israel, wherever they have been led away to. It's undeniably true that the Stick of Joseph may not apply to the Book of Mormon, but it's definitely a stick containing writing and separate and distinct from the Stick of Judah or the Bible. Where is this writing Stick of Ephraim?

@@jamesbaldwin7676 Thank you for even looking into a different interpretation. It can be hard to look at something a different way when you have only been taught one way. I commend you. 1) I do not take the whole chapter literally. It contains metaphors and I take them metaphorically, but I take the interpretations given for the metaphors literally. 2) When it comes to the unification of Israel their were only the northern and southern kingdoms. There was no east or west kingdom. All 12 lived within north or south. 3) The stick of Judah is not the Bible. It is also just a stick representing the Southern kingdom. 4) The writing on the sticks was small and is given in the text. The KJV has a poor translation and never uses quotation marks. Both of the capitalized "For"s in KJV verse 16 begin the new quotation of the text on the sticks. A better translation is: 15 The word of the Lord came to me: 16 “Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, ‘Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, ‘Belonging to Joseph (that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’ 17 Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand. The rest of the chapter is obviously about the return of the house of Israel regaining the lands of their inheritance and living as Zion. This is what the sticks are representing.

@@six1nyne A rod in the BoM does not represent the holy scriptures. It is something else. "Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark."

It's like the Decalogue Stele dug up from a Cahokian burial in one of the mounds by the Smithsonian. This Egyptian looking artifact with the Ten Commandments written in ancient Hebrew is a puzzle. Was it made in the Americas or brought from the Middle East, did it belong to the descendants of people from The Book Of Mormon or a group of Jews that got here hundreds of years before Columbus or even any Vikings? This is just one of many official artifacts that don't fit the current theories, so they're ignored. Unlike hundreds to thousands of artifacts that aren't supposed to exist in the Americas according to current theories, so they have been automatically labeled hoaxes without examination, because they are said to have been found by farmers ploughing their fields or digging wells, instead of in official archeological digs. There are some artifacts that have since been accepted as real, like the Clovis Points. It took the death of the head of the Smithsonian, who believed the earth was no more than 6,000 years old, before any archeological artifacts older than 4,000 B.C.E. were accepted by the Smithsonian.

No Other Gospel Galatians 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- 7not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. 10For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Do Not Follow False Prophets Deuteronomy 18:18 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put My words in His mouth. He will tell them everything I command Him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to My words that the prophet speaks in My Name. 20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in My Name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.” Temple in Independence. In this revelation given on September 22 and 23, 1832, Joseph Smith foretold of an LDS temple to be built in Independence, Missouri. (D&C Section 84): And this temple is to be built in Zion, which is Independence, Missouri. Over 180 years later, there is still no Temple on the “temple lot” specified in this prophecy. Finally, after 140 years, the Mormon Church itself admitted this was a false prophecy. No temple was ever built on this property and the close-dated, unconditional prophecy never came true. Joseph Fielding Smith finally admitted there was no expectation this prophecy would ever come to pass. There are no archeological bases for the claims of the Book of Mormon: where are the cities? where are the archeological battles of the nephites and lamanites? what is the dna evidence that Native American tribes are descendants of the Hebrews? Wheat in the Americas did not exist before the spaniards arrived, nor horses, nor chariots, nor steel, etc. "and you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall set you free"

I find this project appalling. They raised $40k to defend the Book of Mormon instead of feeding homeless people or something worthwhile. That makes mormon doctrine seem useless. If the Book of Mormon is true, wouldn't it inspire people to do good, useful things?? I also served a mission and then joined the military. But then I became a foster parent and I've helped 12 people avoid homelessness. Mormon apologists are very off-putting.
