Let's take a break from talking about the terrible writing in Hollywood and talk about what good writing actually looks like. Excellent author Brandon Sanderson recently released the first of four books he's putting out this year: tress of the Emerald Sea

Brandon Sanderson is such a great and very proactive author. I believe he's writing different books at the same time. My first exposure to his works is through the Mistborn Trilogy. His worldbuilding is superb and I love how he sprinkles lines in his books that can be applied in life. My favorite about faith, "Belief isn't simply a thing for fair times and bright days. What is belief - what is faith - if you don't continue in it after failure?"

So i picked this up today on a whim. Never read Sanderson, but I've heard great things. After I got home it suddenly occurred to me that I thought you'd done a video on this book, which I hadn't watched. Ran to the channel to fix that and I'm now super excited for this book

I just reread the Mistborn trilogy and it's companion trilogy Wax & Wayne. Yes, rereading Sanderson is a plus. Put Tress on my wish list for April!

I have to get to Wax & Wayne yet. My wife read it and Wayne is apparently the same character as Lopen from Stormlight and a whole book series with that character excites me.

I just wanted to point out that the Wheel of Time "trilogy" ballooning out to thirteen books wasn't Sanderson's fault. It was Robert Jordan's. Sanderson brutally cut short the myriad of subplots that Jordan had spun out (which ground the series to a standstill) in order to wrap things up in *just* three books after Jordan's death. As a side note, I joked sometime in the 90's that Robert Jordan would die before he finished the Wheel of Time series. I felt pretty darn guilty in 2007 when it actually happened. 😞

In a world, where a bunch of bleeding heart and parts misfits are trying to re-write some children books, without success of course, in order to protect their goddamned sensitivity, that's fresh air.

@gregowen2022

I should delve into it. The second secret book just came out and I had to download speechify because fucking spotify doesn't do book sharing like audible, even though I subscribed to Spotify family premium. Perhaps when his third book is out, I'll use it as an excuse to talk about audible

@@yomanyo327 that's exactly the problem. Their stuff is convenient. I upload my pictures to them, now I'm probably using prime forever because of that. They probably lost money on audio books for a while, but now my library is there so I stay. They aren't forcing anyone, just making everything so damned convenient you don't go elsewhere

Tress was the only DNF out of the 4 secret projects for me. I've read EVERYTHING Sanderson has ever published. But Tress was......... nice, the writing was nice, the characters were nice, everything was just so freaking Saccharine that I couldnt handle it. I gave up shortly after she got on the boat. I'll probably come back to it. Everyone says its great. I just....... really struggled with this one. Yumi was the best IMO. The writing was fantastic. Frugal Wizard is in second place. Cool, unique, character-driven story Sunlit Man...... was great. But it was also so........ cross-over-y that...... it got distracting from the story at hand.

oh..... i just got to the end. NO, HELL NO to Daniel Green. I used to love his channel. And then Wheel of Time came out and he simped all over it. I dont know how much amazon had to pay him for his soul, but I will never trust a word out of that guy's mouth ever again. He claims to be a WoT fan and then talked about how much he LOVED the show and how amazing it is etc etc etc. NO NO NO. Amazon took one of my favorite series of all time, and pissed all over it. I dont get worked up over Rings of Power, or any of the other abominations that have been made recently because i'm just not that invested. But Amazon's WoT fills me with such an incoherent rage that I can barely talk. I friggen love those books........ The show is the single worst adaptation in film history.
