Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ

Күн бұрын

Nephi’s older brothers are angry with him and desire to kill him. The Lord warns Nephi, a Book of Mormon prophet, and his people to leave. They settle in a new land and call it “Nephi.” Nephi’s people are hardworking, and they prosper because they keep the commandments of God. Priests and teachers preach the word of God. The people live after the manner of happiness.
Based on 2 Nephi 5.

It was awesome how they showed the pain of families having to separate because of bad choices by some. It's a painful reality that comes with choosing wrong, choosing pride and selfishness: hurting others in your wake. Nephi was admirable for continually going to the Lord to know how to handle challenges that likely often seemed impossible to overcome. He's been a great example for me.

I always have loved the scripture in 2 Nephi 10:20. I felt like it showed a symbolism of how the travels of Lehi's family was symbolic of a change of heart, ending with being in a new, holier place, and separating at last from sin. Placing Nephi's Psalm over when they're departing into the wilderness was a great choice, and I feel echoes the symbolic interpretation I just described.

This is one of my most favorite chapters in the Book of Mormon. It reminds me though life presents many challenges, if we can go forward in trying to do the Lord’s will, then we will be strengthened. Living in the manner of happiness doesn’t mean that everything is perfect (Lehi taught that there is opposition in all things), yet by working to keep the commandments we can be happy.

Lehi could have been less in your face with his if you fall into sin your be cut off speeches. Hint, hint look at Laman how he is leading Lemuel and the some of the son's of Ishmael away. His words of warning became a self fulfilling prophecy.

When Moses led the children of Israel through the wilderness they encountered flying fiery serpents. To save them, the Lord told Moses to fashion a serpent of brass on a pole and it was lifted up for all to see, and were told that all they had to do was look at it and be saved from death. But some refused to look because it was too simple; that it couldn’t possibly be the cure, and many perished. The Book of Mormon today is like the brass serpent of old. It’s been lifted up to the world to see but many tell themselves that it can’t possibly be a cure; it’s simply not worth the time; it’s too simple. Compared to a lifetime, a three to four weeks worth of time to read the book will sadly be too much time for many. For people truly seeking the truth in a downward spiraling world, they will take the time to read it and be saved. Please take the time!

Many things can be compared to the brazen serpent raised in the wilderness by Moses. I agree that the Book of Mormon may be seen as such - the doctrines are easy to understand, and it is source of life-giving truth. It is easy to give heed to the words of life. Many overlook it and disregard it because of the easiness of the way. You're not wrong, and this does add truth to the mission of the Book. I would, however, like to clarify - the object of the symbol of the brazen serpent is not the Book of Mormon or the Bible or any other scriptures that we have. A symbol does not represent itself. I say the Scriptures are not the object of the symbol of the brazen serpent because these things are also means to an end, and things to point us to the true object of all true symbols and the object of our faith. The serpent raised in the wilderness represents Jesus Christ. It is to Him we must turn to and look upon or perish. The Book of Mormon acts in a similar fashion, not to turn is to itself, but to point is to Christ, the source of our salvation. All the symbols of scripture point to Him. All these things bear witness of Christ. All things bear witness that there is a God.

I have often thought I would have liked to have met the two actors that played Laman and Lemuel. They portrayed these two rebellious brothers so well you could almost feel their wickedness yet I’m sure are both good members of the church.

Love it❤️. I had never before this came out thought much about the sadness of the cousins leaving each other, or the sisters and sisters-in-law. In this novel I like that covers their experiences in the promised land one of Nephi's sisters wasn't allowed to go with them. In the series he has two younger sisters. All the characters have names. Elisheba is 13 and Dinah is 11 when the family leaves Jerusalem. After Ishmael's family joins them his eldest son falls in love with Elisheba. He is a widower and has a son from his first wife. He supports Laman and Lemuel but he makes an oath to Lehi to follow the Lord when he requests her hand in marriage. But that doesn't change the fact that he still supported Laman and Lemuel. They were blessed with two sons but after Lehi's death he won't let his wife leave with her brothers when the Lord commands them to leave. Her mom told her that she was leaving with them and she didn't want to lose her daughter. Her brother Nephi took his wife with him after he said goodbye to his mother-in-law to go speak to his sister's husband. She was really close to her sister-in-law and the girls visited while their husbands were talking. Also just before the Lord spoke to Nephi his wife went to visit Laman's wife. Just prior to the death of Lehi he made plans for a temple of the Lord. But it was her neice, Zoram's daughter Eve, that brought the unfortunate news of the destruction of the site. The night before she had been on her way to warn her uncle of Laman's plot on his life. There had been a family meeting at Laman's place and she had left as soon as Nephi and Isaabel left. She couldn't sleep and she spoke with her dad. But then her wicked Uncle Laman came to speak with him. She was inside the house and she heard everything. She had been captured by her Uncle Jacob on the way. He had mistaken her for her Aunt Isaabel and he was worried she was walking straight into his oldest brother's trap. He took her to Nephi to warn him and when her father came with Sam the three men made a plan while she and Jacob waited. When they came back Nephi told his younger brother to take her home and then go home. When he dropped her off he smelled smoke and the two searched for what was burning. It didn't take long for them to realize it was the temple. The next morning she ran to Nephi's home after listening to an argument on the grounds where Laman openly threatened him. She babysat for her aunt while she went to the grounds to see what was happening. Isaabel was devastated. Sam told her to go back home because he didn't want his sister-in-law to get hurt by Laman. She took a detour to Laman's home to visit with his wife Anah, her second eldest sister. Isaabel was Ishmael's youngest daughter. But Anah had told her sister that no matter what she said or did she would always support her husband. Elisheba kept the faith and two years later the Lord's curse fell upon the family. She and her sons were not cursed. The family accused her of witchcraft and kicked her out but she had to leave her husband and the kids behind. Her stepson had gone with Nephi. He was married to her younger sister. Raamah started to change after that. He started to see his brother-in-law's true colors and he also converted to the Lord after his wife had left. His young sons disowned him, they had been raised by his sisters. When his wife was found by Laman she was sentenced to death but he told her to escape and when she did he distracted Laman. He pled with Laman to let the boys go with him but Laman mocked him and tried to kill him but changed his mind. He said if he ever saw Raamah again he would kill the boys. Raamah pled with his wife for forgiveness. She accepted him back into her life. From that time he wakes up early each morning to pick flowers for his wife. Jacob had requested Eve's hand in marriage just before he found Raamah. She said yes.

remember yoda......." anger leads to hate . hate leads to the dark side ". laman and lemuel were angry .!! and that lead to hate of nephi and those who followed him. and that lead to darkness of mind and spirit. once the spirit left , the light of christ was gone. that equals lives based on continuous anger and hate. and the circle of hate never ends for them.

@@armchairrocketscientist4934 Be patient with Ray. Unlike some of the others, he isn't an apostate member of the Church of Jesus Christ. He has a good heart, and loves the Bible. I actually think he has done a lot of good in his life, giving of his time and talent to help various Christian fellowships evangelize the word of the Lord and His gospel (according to their perception of it). He has been blinded by the craftiness of those who oppose the Church and who spread half-truths and such, which makes it all the harder to approach the Book of Mormon with an open mind. Hopefully he'll humble himself enough to do that.

@Mobius118 4 жыл бұрын
@@brighambentley I agree with your reasoning, though I do think research suggests that the location was actually not North America. To be honest, we don't know exactly where things took place. For example, the Testaments movie (again based on events in the Book of Mormon) was placed in a tropical location and clues towards the culture and architecture were taken from mayan/and or Aztec design. Only time will tell us where it really was, and I'm sure excited to find out!
