The long-promised tour of my bookshelves is finally here.
I show you all the books I keep in my front room, the ones I love most.
I realise I missed out my Super-oversized gems, but that might be a nice excuse for another tour at some point in the future.
Most of the books shown here have a more in-depth review on my channel, and if it doesdn't yet, it will soon!
Please consider clicking the Like button and SUBSCRIBE if you'd like to support my channel, and thank you to every single one of my subscribers!
Thanks for watching!

Thank you for sharing. I had to sell many of my beautiful books to pay medical bills a few years back, so I'm also now a collector of some of the Barnes and Noble classics. At least here in the United States, around Christmas you can pick up these goodies 2 for $30.00. And they are at least as unique as anything from Easton Press.or other fancy binding/publishing houses. A side note, one upside I learned about digital audio and Kindle/PDF books when I had to start selling my posessions: it's actually a comfort sometimes to know that you cannot sell something, even if you don't technically own it either.

Ah, for sure, I can relate - I had to sell my comic collection when my son was born to buy nappies. We left the UK since then to live in Poland and suddenly disposable income is not a problem any more - so much do that I've managed to build this book collection over only 2 years, and pretty much buy back the entire collection of comics I'd sold. Amazing what you can do when the roof over your head doesn't cost 3/4 of your monthly salary 😂

I completely agree with you about the B&N collection. I know they're not to everyone's taste, but I think they look easy more interesting than the admittedly beautiful but very sober Easton Press collection et al. And yes! Long live Kindle, right? That's how I consume most fiction 🤩

Foolish Fish until the medical stuff hit I worked as a draftsman, and could listen to whatever I wanted so long as my office mate didn’t object. So I went much harder on the audiobook route. It’s a very different experience, sometimes better sometimes not, depends on the type of book and how good the narrator is.

@@JasonJrake I love a well-narrated audiobook! 😄 Some of the full-cast, sound-effect heavy productions are just mind-blowing, like Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology (which also exists as a version with only him narrating which is also great).

You're a great barometer for a good book, The Barns & Noble editions are quite breathtaking. Joseph H. Peterson's 'Lesser Key of Solomon' was one of my first grimoires. I missed out on a first edition several years ago on eBay, sadly I haven't seen one since. I've ordered the hardback edition of 'Three Books of Occult Philosophy' which you reviewed. I have the paperback which I've read to death over the years, with some tatty pages now loosely inserted.

I'm waiting on book one of Agrippa's 3 books +4th which is getting a new translation by Black Letter Press, but to be honest, it's just for the form factor, I'm not expecting it to be anywhere near as well annotated or as informative as Tyson's edition. BLP's books are rather photogenic but it seems to stop there...

Beautiful bookshelf. All your books are good quality and nicely arranged. That is the way that a library should look. I particularly like the occult books. Though I prefer to work my way up gradually because some of them sound quite advanced in understanding so it would be better to understand the foundational teachings before I should read them.

Hi @Cult Fiction! Thanks for watching and for the kind words 😄 I have a video on my channel about 10 esoteric books for beginners which explore concepts that are common in esoteric books but from a very approachable, non specialist standpoint. And then I think you could do worse than pick up Six Ways, or Three Books Of Occult Philosophy or any of the Gallery of Magick books that grab your attention. Those would be great primers after which you will be able to make more informed decisions on what you want to explore next. Safe journeys!

Foolish Fish Thankyou I will take that advice. In the past I’ve read occult books including some of Lon milo duquettes and Donald Michael Kraig and kraigs book was aimed at beginners but was a practical manual more than theoretical. But In hindsight it would have made more sense to learn the basic theory first. So your recommendations may be just the thing for me to read beginning with Philip k dick I believe although Agrippa work looks like a good option too although I’m unsure whether I will ever get through it all because it’s so huge

Always a pleasure to hear from you, I hope things are going well, and your wallet isn't being too badly depleted because of the videos I've been putting out :D As I mentioned in the video, I would STRONGLY advise you (and anyone else considering) against getting a paperback version of "How to Experience God Without Religion". It's full of typos and formatting errors, (mostly fixed in the Kindle edition), and doesn't include the seriously improved first chapter. I wrote it about 10 years ago as a parting gift for my students when I quit teaching, and the principles explored are much better explored in my much more recent "Esoteric Saturdays" video playlist ;P Thanks for being there since the beginning, M T, can you believe it's been 2 years already?

@@FoolishFishBooks Agreed. A collection like what you have is something special to behold. Especially considering how recently many libraries now are not even letting people inside to browse - they have people checkout online and pick up the books outside. Online censorship is ramping up and websites with mainstream-contradicting ideas are vanishing. What you have going is important, so no shame in showing it off a little.

Nice collection DP, well done! If you'll indulge me, I have one recommendation to fill what I perceive to be a glaring omission for a spiritual seeker such as yourself. You look to have the canonic texts for the main spiritual paths except for Buddhism. May I suggest that you investigate the first four nikayas (collections) of the Pali Canon. These are the only texts that are acknowledged by all Buddhist schools as being the authentic teachings of the Buddha (I won't go into the 5th nikaya, the Khudaka Nikaya here for sake of brevity, but I note that you already have the Dhammapada which is a start). Wisdom Publications are the printers of the best translations in English. Your spiritual collection looks very similar to what mine once did (perennialists, Wilber etc.) and I owned and had read many books about Buddhism, but it wasn't until I was directed to the first four nikayas of the Pali Canon that I came to realise that most Western 'Buddhist authors' really have no idea what they are talking about (and I include my once beloved Ken Wilber in that group whilst acknowledging that he isn't writing specifically about Buddhism, though he does misquote it terribly). If you want the original Buddhist teachings, the authentic teachings, read the first four nikayas (Digha Nikaya, Majjhima Nikaya, Samyutta Nikaya, and the Anguttara Nikaya). After reading those books, you will also see the divergences of the many derivative Buddhist paths that have crept into the West (i.e Zen, Vajrayana etc.). Being a man of intellect, you'll quickly ascertain the wheat from the chaff, and boy is there a lot of chaff out there! I see that you have a book on mindfulness by Bhante Gunaratna which is good, Bhante G being one of the few good ones :)
@FoolishFishBooks
@FoolishFishBooks 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the recommended translations. You're quite right, they are a glaring omission in my collection. In truth, the Wilbur books are vestigial from early investigation (about 15 years ago), and I would get rid of them if my wife allowed it. I have only a moderate amount of love for them for the very reasons you describe. But my Perennials are very dear to me 😉

I rather liked the practical approach. I've since made a review.

Is there any specific method you follow to organize books?
@FoolishFishBooks
@FoolishFishBooks 4 жыл бұрын
Generally yes, the areas of interest are generally grouped together, but there's a lot of "what looks good" going on too. Ultimately, these are my home surroundings, and I like to be delighted by what I see, wherever I look. I'd much rather an aesthetically pleasing bookcase than to know that the books of any particular collection are in alphabetical order, for example ;)

Really enjoyed watching this, and was excited to see the Name of the Wind & The Wise Man's Fear in your collection. So... what do you think is in the Lackless box? :P Hope you are keeping well!

I noticed you have a book holder on your shelf. Did you by chance get that in a subscription box? I've been interested in wicca and the occult, and a few you tubers I follow are subscribed to one or more services that send out wicca or occult related items. Anyway, one of the items from the monthly box was, among other things, a book about herbs and a book holder that looks exactly like that! Lol I forgot the name of the company, but it started with "Witche's....something". I just thought how cool that it could look so similar or is the same as the one I've seen a while ago. Cool🙂

I, the Supreme looks like a worrying and important read. It's not a major interest of mine, though the lure of control through absolute power is certainly worth understanding... I might check it out. I take it you're a fan 😜

Wonderful library! I'm really jellause about a lot of books you have xD I noticed you have a Nintendo Switch and an XBox, so you are also playing console games? :D Or are these from your son? PS: Because of personal things in my life I'd like to know about the Islam and Budhism a bit more. Can you recommend a book about them? Just for someone who doesn't really know a thing about it other than the obvious facts. Would you recommend that one book from yours? ( 20:56 I mean you obviously like it xD) I'm also quite interested in Japanese Religion (Shintoism I think), but I think you don't have book about it? Maybe I missed something.
@FoolishFishBooks

Hi @JohnHenric! Yeah, I like to play when I get the chance, which isn't often. My son's disability makes it quite hard for him to coordinate his movements, so he tends to find video games rather frustrating, though we do enjoy the of fame of Mario Kart on automatic mode from time to time 😜 Yeah, Heart of Islam and A Survey of Buddhism are definitely the way to go. I read a lot of books on both topics, and those were the clear standouts that I chose to keep. You're quite right, my lack of literature on Shintoism is less than ideal 😆 I can't justify that, and I'm afraid I wouldn't know what to recommend. My understanding of Shintoism comes exclusively from visiting temples in Japan and popular culture. If you come across something good, don't hesitate to recommend it!

@@FoolishFishBooks Ah I forgot about that. But that's quite a nice usage of that mode, never thought of it like that! All the best to your son^^ Alright, thank you! I'll keep my eyes out for them! Haha that's ok :D I will!

💙 Edit: Also,do the pages of the hardcover books get yellow over time?
@FoolishFishBooks
@FoolishFishBooks 4 жыл бұрын
It depends which ones. Generally acidic paper does tend to yellow. A hard or a soft cover doesn't tend to be the differentiator here. I have some soft-covers that just stay permanently brilliant white, and some Hardcovers that brown quite fast. Luck of the draw :D

Finding my wife 😉 The time I randomely found £180 in cash was also pretty cool having asked for that exact amount... The second video in my Esoteric Saturdays playlist talks about the weirdest outcome at a time I didn't yet realise that what I was doing was practical magic. (It also shows my face, which some people seem to find entertaining 😄)

I love your channel! Better than porn! lol jk, but seriously. As a bibliophile, I super appreciate these videos. As a father, I super appreciate the showcasing of children's books especially, folktales and mythology. As a mystic and magician, I also super appreciate your coverage of the esoteric literature. What a beautiful niche I've found! I am thoroughly enjoying going through your channel here. Also, someone ought to tag you for unintentional ASMR. As a vlogger-to-be, I'm also taking notes. I do have one question, what camera do you use for your videos? Thanks for all you do. Keep up the Great Work!
