I now own this very glider (in the near future i will put up videos of it flying here in NSW Australia on my youtube channel). Just about to put a new lineset on it. I am no expert with the Boomerang, however, i have over 150 hours on the Icepeak and can sympathise as there is nothing worse than being in a situation where nothing is working and one is just waiting for "the moment of doom". It is an awful feeling. I was fortunate to recover from a bedsheet underneath me scenario with Icepeak and fly away, a situation i hope not to repeat with the Oxygen Boom.
@kiliascupra6 жыл бұрын
Adam Edgar hope you to enjoy all your flights with the glider. If possible make a SIV ;) Icepeak was my favorite glider and made the best flights with it.
@adamedgar57656 жыл бұрын
thanks kiias...just a couple of questions...how many hours was put on this glider before Charlie bought it? also, were you flying on bar just before that collapse?
@kiliascupra6 жыл бұрын
Adam Edgar No more than 30 hours. I wasn’t flying on bar, the air was extremely turbulent, something that you can not recognize at the video. www.paraglidingforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=558673#558673
@adamedgar57656 жыл бұрын
Do you think the glider would have still collapsed if you had been pulling hard on the rear risers instead of the brakes? A comp pilot who flies at our local site says that i should ensure that i mostly fly using the rear risers on this glider.

Definitely bad weather conditions but this wing is too advanced for this pilot. Also I last year in Bassano I flew in similar conditions but with a Tequila 4 thankfully. The flight was a calvary but the wing held up well without major problems.
@kiliascupra5 жыл бұрын
Michele Ren 1 hour before me my girlfriend flown with Tequila also...although see was new pilot see landed ok. If you haven’t flown a hot 2liner you couldn’t really judge;)
@micheleren15345 жыл бұрын
@@kiliascupra I absolutely do not want to judge. It is only my opinion. The fact is that under these conditions the pilot over not having assessed the conditions well before taking off and then did not know how to control or prevent the collapse of the wing.

@@AMJB100000000 Comments are open to everyone here. You shut up. And I repeat, this wing is too advanced for this pilot if he is unable to handle it even in adverse conditions. That's all.

Yeah, when I read "boomerang" and "rescue landing" I knew this time it probably wasn't the pilots fault ;) I mean, you took off in shitty conditions, but apart from that...guess that's why we carry a rescue with us
@mcbrite3 жыл бұрын
And then it was the pilots fault after all... What do you do if there are other pilots climbing up below you when that happens? How do you get out of the way and let them through, or do you all crash together?

Unfortunately midair collisions are not uncommon and can result in death due to tangles with the reserve and/or knocked unconscious. But generally you can get out of the way if someone is having problems near you

i wonder if thr glider is out of trim. conditions didnt look that strong
@q062am Жыл бұрын
But answers are wrong. It’s impossible to know for sure but that kind of sudden violent collapse without some violent movement of the glider before usually are provoked by the pilot pulling the brakes or another line while using the speed system of the glider. It makes it loose stability. It was very windy and he was probably flying against the wind that’s what it looks like. So if I’m right this incident was totally predictable
@wazzobazzo6 жыл бұрын
Damn that got real high real fast. Is that normal (I don't paraglide but want to get into it as it looks really fun)?
@steveg85225 жыл бұрын
paragliding is fun - even more so when you attend training & learn/practice (lots of groundhandling too) - don't be afraid of the weather, respect it. Use your senses and visualize all the things that are happening all around you (the birds, fluttering leaves in the trees etc.) to help you read the landscape. In this vid, there were many indicators of potential for rotors in the path he was following. Don't be in a hurry to get a performance wing - ENB A's & low-end B's are great and will give you the flying experience you're looking for. I don't know the pilot but active flying, keeping the wing loaded without so much brake, reading the terrain better could have avoided the situation - but at the end of the day, he's safe and sound... hope you learned from this(?) happy flying my friend
@DomesticDave3 ай бұрын
It's really fun, until it isn't. Then your training or lack of it comes into play and allows you to later watch the playback and learn more, or it doesn't and you don't !

Foehn
@CharonUA7 жыл бұрын
Does foehn generate severe turbulence at some height above the valley? I am interesting because I was in Gemona, 50 km to the west in this moment and there were absolutely normal flying conditions.
@kiliascupra7 жыл бұрын
CharonUA At the same day all pilots was flying normal to Gemona!
@InteractivesitesDe7 жыл бұрын
Thanassis Freezman The longer the foehn travels, the warmer the air may get. Usually the weather goes from west to east - so 50km east there could have been more violent updrafts from it...
@q062am3 жыл бұрын
Why fly with a comp glider if there is no one to comp with. I suspect a c or b glider would have been more enjoyable to fly with without feeling your missing out on the plus 0.5 glide ratio on full bar since there is no one compare with

Bons vols
