This is an overview of all known ways to boost performance, seasoned players have a high probability of being aware of these boosts. We touch on settings, Shader Caching, and setting a page file (aka virtual memory). I hope this helps you out should you have needed it. Its a short one, just compiling the few tips for newer players. 00:48 Setting Up the Page File 02:57 Nvidia Shader Cache 04:19 Game Settings

Set your windows page file to 1.5x the amount of ram you have, this is just what i learned from others over the years. if your on 16 gigs of ram, set 24576. cause 1 gig is 1024mb. Also deleting the user folder inside the star citizen folder have sometimes improved performance for me after major patches over the years :) be adviced! all custom keybinds and settings disappear when you delete the user folder. Also make sure your running the latest GPU drivers obviously. Also make sure you have XMP/D.O.C.P enabled in bios

Oh god yes! The XMP Profile, yet another, so many do not have this set...newer system builders. Or people forgetting after a RAM update. A general gaming PC performance video would be nice for all of this.

In my view, people who dont bother getting into overclocking/thermals/optimizing OS, deserve the performance they get, for the money they paid. Game alpha builds are usually poorly optimized as well :P so there is that

You can copy your keyboard/joystick bindings file to another folder before you delete the USER folder and then replace the file after.

@@GipsyRonin Don't need one. The reason XMP is important is because of the marketing ram manufacturers do. 1. They advertise 3466Mhz speed DDR4 ram. (What they really mean is XMP is 3466 but the ram by default runs at 2666 unless you enable XMP and adjust your CAS latency timings and DRAM frequencies accordingly) Manufacturer's can provide the correct settings if you have to manually set CAS Latency Timings. 2. This is important for people to know because your frame rate studder, and lower FPS is because you are running at nearly 30-50% of your RAM's speed capability. (which would actually be slower than your high end SSD) Changing this can in some cases make a HUGE difference for people with slower CPU's. 3. Caveat - Like everything else some people won't notice a difference, usually because you have a newer machine that is more than capable of handling SC. Hope that helps people.

Just make a copy of the "Profiles" folder in your USER folder to save your key binds. Re copy the profiles folder back in there once the USER folder updates.

Yeah I came here because I have an I7 12700K 32 gigs ram and a Radeon 6900xt and my game has been crashing alot lately. Didn't do this much in the beginning 😕. I've got a pretty decent setup. However really enjoyed the production of this video !

I've found that the sharpening and chromatic aberration settings do nothing if you're running at the native resolution of your monitor. Where they come into play is if for example you have a 1080p monitor but you drop the resolution to 1600 x 900. If you have a less powerful system like an i5 and 1060 ti, then lowering the resolution to 900p will give a massive increase in performance at the expense of a blurrier image. Setting sharpening and chromatic aberration to 100% will help fix the image with no performance hit. Also, if you are getting framerates dipping below 30 in places like Orison, you should enable motion blur for mouse movement in the settings. There is a lot of misunderstanding of what this setting does. Basically, movies at the cinema are filmed at 24fps but as we know, games running at 24fps look terrible. Why? Because the frames of a movie capture motion blur so that everything looks smooth whereas games don't. This motion blur setting tries to emulate the effect of what happens when a movie is filmed, so that when the game dips into low framerates it doesn't look so stuttery. It works pretty well and has negligable effect on performance.

Believe it or not Star citizen is optimized so bad that I find doubling my RAM on a page file stops memory leaks and stutters in the game. I noticed this helped a lot when I had 32gigs of RAM and made a 64gb page file. Now I have 64gigs of RAM and a 128gig page file. Here I haven't noticed much of a difference. Keep in mind I have seen this game use 52gigs of RAM now that I use 64. So yes 32gigs is not enough for Star citizen for all areas of the game! Keep in mind I would never do this for any other game haha. But it works for SC. Doubling your page file from your RAM size will stop stutters in the game. Test it and see for yourself.

I know this is old but great video and details. Although I feel one shouldn't have to do all this to play a game. The devs should be trying to optimize more than the fans.. I know it's an alpha but I know alphas that do optimize.

NIS for Nvidia cards. I tried it I see no difference in performance. SC is one of those games where basically regardless of resolution there is no real advantage to one resolution over the other in terms of what maximum tolerances you use. I play at 1440P normally and NIS does nothing for me when I drop it down to 1920.

nice video but i disagree as with the virtual ram . since windows 98 times it is recommended to set the vram in this way...... at least as much as "real" RAM is available, better is 1.5x of the ram for possible "outliers" is the best option. to explain : Think of your hard drive as an empty warehouse with rows of shelves. if you set the setting to automatic then your OS will work like a "LAZY" worker and pack the data to wherever a shelf is free..... the next "worker" then searches all the shelves in the warehouse to find where the previously file is..... THAT COST TIME which is wasted. If you now say "I have a FIXED area where data is stored that is used more often" you gain "TIME" that is not wasted by the "worker" (OS/windows) searching for the file in the ENTIRE warehouse. He searches in the area that is specially designed for this purpose and finds the files faster! if you have lthe uxury and have several SSDs, you can get even more speed by not putting the page file on the disk where the actual files are because you open more "WAYS" to get to these files that are needed

Ty didn't realize shader cache used page file. I have 64GB of ram so my page file is turned off. I'll test it again but I doubt I'll see any change, If anything I expect worse performance since everything can fit into my ram vs pagefile.
