This is a tutorial video showing you how to clean Suede Leather Boots. These boots are Marine Corps combat boots that I had when I got out of the Marines back in 2011, I've worn them maybe for maybe 1 year in garrison before I got out. I wish I still had my deployment boots which were really dirty, they were stolen out of my storage unit when it was broken into in 2012.
This leather suede cleaning kit can be purchased from just about any Walmart store in the shoe section for about $12's. You can also purchase it on Amazon

I’ve got two pair of the same (non-usmc version) they’re steel toe, had them for YEARS, and I love them!! Amazingly comfortable and durable. Mine need the soles glued back on. Had it “professionally” done once before and they came right off after about 3 months. Did it myself and lasted about a year. Now, they’re dirty af so I will try this kit.

Suede leather can be hard to clean depending on what you get on them, such as motor oil.

I did too, I had a garrison pair and a field pair. I got tired of being stopped at the PX by a higher ranking person because they wanted to nit pick my boots after I just spent more time in the field in the last week than they did in the last year combined.

Thank you for the tutorial AND for your service as well!! I own three different brands of desert boots: Response, Magnum, and Bates. NONE of them included the correct method/s of cleaning/care instructions. I also have a Kiwi Desert Boot/suede cleaning kit. ALL the accompanying cleaning/care instructions to the said boots and cleaning kit, oddly enough were incorrect and only made (so far) my Response desert boots a WORSE mess than they were prior to cleaning. My Magnum's were borderlining the same until I realized to watch a tutorial video before I proceed any further. Thankfully, the Bates do not need cleaning yet, but soon, and they as well as Magnum's are too expensive to just allow to get all screwed up by poor/vague/incorrect instructions. I will let you know how they turn out. Thank you again, Marine!!😎

Kyle Ellis I love the suede leather boots that the Marine Corps uses but they can sometimes be a lot of work when you get black scuffs on them. Mud and dirt usually brushes off easily. I hope it helps get your boots clean, sometimes I have to repeat the process over and over again until they are spotless. I need to make another video of what to do when you spill cooking oil/grease on suede leather, I’ve cleaned those too to where they are spotless.

We don't use suede leather boots anymore that was a thing of the 90's with the DCU & DBDU. There made out of Pigskin nowdays. You don't have to waterproof them . All you need is Dawn Dish Soap , Magic Eraser for stains and a Scrubber to remove dirt let the boots dry over night.

Amphib Aav I always hated when I got out of the field, all I wanted to do was going grab some pogey bait and a pack of smokes from the PX. Then you had some higher up pog, who goes to the field once a year, chew you out for having dirty boots and cammies. I love the new boots but yet, they are still expensive, a lot less maintenance though. As Arnold would say “You lack discipline”.

Great Job here and a great result, actually it does seem to me that the Suede Combat Boots taken more effort to keep presentable than the "old" fashioned leather smooth boots that can just be cleaned by washing off mud etc and then cleaned with boot polish and waterproofed with Dubbin, Bees wax etc Suede boots are great in the Desert when you can just brush off the sand etc but in a temperatue climate seem more hassle to keep clean take care out there
@BtRct
@BtRct 5 жыл бұрын
On The Run Plmr Suede leather is harder to take care of as far as cleaning but they can certainly take a lot of abuse. Smooth leather boots are easier to clean but can get deep scuffs which makes it hard to smooth out and polish. At least in my experience.

God! It takes 6x longer to care for these suede boots than the older black leather combat boots which I wore in USAF. Why did the military change? Do the DIs allow extra time for inspection preparation as well as as the recruits having a separate pair just for inspections?
@BtRct
@BtRct 5 жыл бұрын
Penelope L Goss I’m sure it had to do with the tactical aspect of it. Last time we wore black boots in combat was probably Desert Storm: not a very good idea to be blending into the desert background and have black boots on amongst the brown dirt/sand.

If there is oil like vegetable oil, you can put these boots in a paper bag with corn starch covering the boot. The starch will absorb the oil out of the leather. Might take more than 1 application, for me it only took once to get vegetable oil off.

If water gets on the outside of boot, blot it off as quick as you can. It takes a minute but will be worth it. I make sure it dries completely. In the sun is preferable. Leave the laces off until fully dry so u can open them up as much as possible. After dry get a fabric softener sheet, I get mine from the $ store. And place down inside the shoes when u store them

@BtRct
@BtRct 5 жыл бұрын
ParallelMango Yeah, the Marines has shifted a lot of their focus from parade style presentation in the battlefield to more combat readiness and efficiency. No more shining boots or starching cammies. A lot of the old salt dogs hold onto their previous experience as being more prideful as you do.
@eightthreeminustwo804
@eightthreeminustwo804 5 жыл бұрын
I was lucky enough to be in the Corps during the transition from the woodland cammies and black jungle boots, to Marpat digitals and tan boots. My first two deployments were in tri-color deserts and tan jungle boots. I wore my woodlands up to the last day we were authorized to wear them (wore my saltiest set, they were AWESOME!!). I remember my first Plt Sgt telling us we better be able to shave with our trouser creases in the reflection of our boots for every Monday inspection. I would iron and polish every Sunday, it was a part of my weekend routine. But ParallelMango, I disagree with you. All of the work I did on my cammies and boots (which are packed away and STILL hold a shine) did nothing for my combat readiness. I went to Iraq 4 times, all of which were combat deployments, and was blown up and injured by an IED. I was in several firefights, and lost several good friends. Not once could any of this have been changed if I still had my black boots polished to a high gleam. My combat readiness began back in CONUS with my hard charging PltSgts who wouldn’t let us quit, or fail. I was very resistant to the cammie and boot change. I felt we were going soft. But there was a change in the Corps when we went to digitals and tan suede boots; our uniforms got more comfortable, but the bodies wearing them got much harder. I disagree that the military was “stupid” for picking a new boot. I wore the tan jungles and the ‘new’ tan suede boots. The new ones were far superior in ankle support and foot fatigue. I still rock my boots when I’m out at the range or camping, why? Because they are great boots. Check the stats, far less foot and ankle injuries after changing boots. If you don’t think that’s important, than you are just a troll looking for an argument. My number one concern was my Marine’s welfare. Because if they were down, we’d have no combat readiness. “Black and polish” was great, and they will always have a place in my heart, but after my 12 years, and rise to the rank of SSgt, it would be foolish for me to say the tan suede boots aren’t “respectable.” Honestly though, I did my service with my head held high, but the boots I wore didn’t really matter. Instead of shaving with my creases, I used a razor, and without my boot reflection, I used a mirror. Times change ParallelMango, you may want to at least try to be ready for it. Isn’t that at least one thing people learn in the military?

Oh, and great video BootRecruit, I stumbled across your video on the Ariat boots, I have a new pair and was curious what the care was like. Nice video there too. I have a thrashed pair of Columbia hiking boots, would love to see you do a video to help me with those. I just can’t revive them!! Lol
