PASSING OF A LEGEND The great, beautiful soul that was Nanci Griffith has flown into the eternal. I fell in love with her when I first saw this video back in 1987. I loved the fragile grace of her voice. I have loved her music ever since. Like many artists, I didn't share her political views (she was very left wing), but she was passionate and articulate with her beliefs. I have no problem with someone's political views (right or left) if they ground them in philosophy, ethics and faith. She was incensed at those who would take advantage of others -- regardless of the reason. She was sometimes filled with righteous anger and still her grace and love for her fellow man bled through in her face and in her words. Rest in peace Ms. Griffith. your music, your spirit will be missed. And yes, there IS a light beyond these woods Ms. Griffith.

Nanci Griffith has been keeping me sane since...forever. In chemotherapy a quarter century ago, her music lulled me to sleep every night (on a disc-man--remember those?) in the hospital. When I got home, as the months of chemo ground on, preparing to go to her concert (at Wolf Trap, Virginia) kept me moving ahead. And I went to that concert. I was so thankful to be there (with my boyfriend -- he is my husband now), that I sat in my seat, and wept. Tears of gratitude and joy. Thanks for posting--this is one of my very favorites.

Joe U said exactly how I felt..what a darling little face and such innocence to her tone..I've learned to play the fingerpicking.. It's the very same as " Girl from the North Country" only latter is played a bit faster..Viva Dylan!....it would be great to hear what Dylan thinks of her interpretation. But something tells me he ain't sayin'....I love much of his lyrics and instrumental work, but that privacy stuff seems like a " man of mystery " affectation. ( I hate that term " cover" what the hell does that mean anyway?" No offence to you..it seems its just a word not quite as true as " interpretation, " ) Ciao Paolo
