They search for them the same reason smugglers smuggle them, they're highly profitable, constantly in demand, and lightweight making them good cargo, the barrier to entry for trying to smuggle them is low, and the personal risk seems to be lower too since you might be able to convince them it's for personal use, and they're not illegal in the same way coke is. If marijuana was legalized everywhere and had a higher profit margin, all the smugglers would switch to that and there'd be little focus on cigarettes in customs. All this is to say, why should it surprise you that they look for what is by far the most popular thing to smuggle?

Ever heard of chain smoking? Its actually not as rare as your "suspicion" thinks. Chain smokers will always have one lite and in an ash trash when home for example. Especially in the age these days where most people just sit in front of a computer or TV all night. While they are not taking literal drags every second they are awake, one is always burning or in arms reach for a drag. This isnt suspicious, just bad for ones personal health.

I can smoke 2-3 packs in a day when I'm at work driving for 12 hours. My dad can sit on the couch and smoke 3-4 packs a day no problem. Lights 1 after the other, drank heavily for years used lots of drugs back in the day and is 60 and still healthy as a horse as they say. Not sure how but I hope I'm so lucky

One I watched earlier the knife they used to cut into the persons property had been dirty so it gave a positive ready and even when they found nothing and got no further positive reads, they still had the person strip search. Only to say, “our knife was likely contaminated” excise me?!?! Not acceptable. Also they could do an X-ray body scan first. Strip search should be a last resort not an acceptable end to a search that has turned up nothing else to that point.

You'd be surprised what people use to hide drug's or even cigarettes. People have gone through customs with pottery, statues of Jesus or Mary and theve been filled with drug's. Whether liquid cocaine or packed in Marijuna and everything in between. One guy year's back said he was on holiday and had everything needed to go rock climbing. Everything seemed normal until customs picked up the climbing rope he brought and could barely lift it. It was saturated in liquid cocaine worth a fortune, he was close to walking had they not picked it up. The worse drug smugglers to me are the one's who put it inside dog's and bring them across. I work in Veterinary Medicine and sadly I've treated a few dog's who were victims of such smuggling techniques. Very sad and hard to deal with for me personally 😷 Another show you might like is customs at Peru airport here on KZfaq. One woman went through with suitcases packed with cocaine. She had brought her 7 year old daughter along with her. She was arrested and convicted to 8 year's in prison while her poor daughter was put into CPS care. The episodes are about 45 minutes long. I binge watch these as well 💯

They generally have a bunch of other methods, but if the smell is strong enough you can't help but smell it while doing the usual checks

Seems you've either never been arrested or dont understand how the law works, if drugs were found within the vehicle and not the goods they will be arrested for further questioning, no charges will be pressed until investigation is completed.

Don't lose faith mate, sometimes they are able to find out who the receiver is and arrest them as well...and even find out who is shipping it it's few in far in between but it happens.

That is why they never do it themselves.

They try to get the driver to give information on the people who hired them in return for a reduced or even dismissed sentence. They need to find out who the suppliers are somehow and intercepting shipments and then getting drivers to inform is one of the few feasible ways of doing it.

The machine itself can become contaminated if it isn't cleaned or well maintained on a regular basis.

In areas where cocaine is rampant it gets into the air and onto everything, some chemicals that are also in cocaine are used in other things- it’s also just sometimes a weird blip

It's easy to use a dirty cloth to swab a bag and use it as an excuse to perform further searches to catch something legit. performance reviews are real; it's a job like any other. produce (catch the bad guys) or you're not worth your salary.

British people don’t have adequate reasons to leave the uk, there’s a few things that might make them want to leave, but at the end of the day it’s one of the better countries to live in. Whereas some countries are not the best places, and people struggle to get jobs and therefore lie and sneak into other countries. They often work for money, and never leave or hide on ships. They can get to France with ease because the countries are connected, but Britain has the highest rate of accepting immigrants so they would rather be there (even though they have much higher chances of getting caught on their way)
