Yeah, it feels like they're really trying to go after the visuals and pull people in... and have zero understanding of, or value for, what truly makes Borderlands Borderlands. The trailer felt "normal", kind of unremarkable. It didn't feel mildly insane or deranged or odd or off the wall. It wasn't smart or nuanced enough. It looks like at its core it's going to be forgettable and boring.

Who is this movie even for? Man I didn't even know I wanted this movie and now I couldn't care less about it. You couldn't get Emma Stone or Kate Mara or Amy Adams or literally any other great, younger actress that actually pulls off passionate red haired protagonist to fill the role? I'm sorry, WHAT THE ACTUAL FU---- Jamie Lee as Tannis... not my first pick, but...ok. Egh... Claptrap Jack Black and newcomer Tina Greenblatt, great. They seems to fit extremely well! Maybe you are right. But Borderlands was funny. I laughed playing it. This trailer made this film seem as unfunny as possible. Borderlands wasn't even all jokes. It had heart and serious moments. it would be great if roland wasnt cast by the guy who literally cant stop being his own character to save his life. its just kevin heart as kevin heart dressed to look like roland.

It's the Lord of the Rings thing, man. Peter Jackson and the casting crew of Lord of the Rings intentionally sought out less well known actors who would play "the character" instead of "the actor playing the character". This is just hollywood big-wig shenanigans - getting bankable roles as a safety blanket for their investment.
