I keep telling myself it's nitpicking and not to complain but I do hope to see a video sometime pointing out all the way these Changelings are inferior in every way to the original models, not enhanced like they keep saying. They can't seem to turn into non-humanoids, they can't easily form body weaponry and their big new advantages aren't really new (they always read as having internal organs and could fake blood screenings). It's just a little frustrating to me because they still have weaknesses (like needing to revert to liquid form) and the only new thing they got out of the deal is the ability to have cut off limbs not turn back into goo. The most important new thing - that they could changelingify solids - is only implied.
@BlazingOwnager
@BlazingOwnager Жыл бұрын
As a follow up to that it drives me nuts that they engage in melee combat and Raffi attacks them with swords. Odo found people attacking him with bladed weapons kind of hilarious, since it literally couldn't hurt him. Pull the knife out and the wound is instantly fixed.. that said I can't really hate on the season over this. They got the borg references down to perfection.

Actually, the plot string of a slower assimilation of the human species was from Voyager. You could, however, call this plot string as a product of the "TNG era", as most people are apt to do when referring to TNG, DS9, and Voyager.

@@stopgeorge I agree, ironically First Contact is one of my favorite Star Trek movies but I also hate that it had to be the one that started the whole queen thing. The "collective consciousness" never should've needed an individual being to maintain order or whatever. That's like saying neurons can't work together unless one neuron "controls" all the others. Neurons don't work like that, they naturally link together to form a single brain, aka a single consciousness. The need for a queen just implied to me that without her, the "collective consciousness" is more like an online forum with someone in an administrator role than a single entity. Only got worse when 7 of 9 was introduced and had to get her orders from... I dunno, "the rest of the Borg" I guess? ...by pausing, listening to them, and then verbally acknowledging the command. So now Borg are just cyborgs that like turning people into more cyborgs, and I guess that's about the extent of it.

Funny thing is this season has been such a return to form that plot holes/ confusing things don’t really matter. I still don't understand why they needed to steal Picard's body. If the Borg were able to change Picard's DNA when they turned him into Locutus, they know what genetic code they added. They still have that knowledge because they were the original source. So they could just give the changeling infiltrators that sequence to be implemented into the transporters without creating the attention related to the Daystrome break in. It would have also given them a much wider time window, because not much time has passed since that break in. And why the need to activate on fleet day? They could have just installed the transporter manipulations on earth with those highly frequented public transporters and waited a year until pretty much every human under 25 has used one. This is one of those plots that only fails because the enemy executed it stupidly. The Borg just haven't played enough Stellaris to be actually smart conquerors 😅

Unless if Picard was the only success in their experiments to weaponize the DNA. They could implant what they had with Picard into other humans but Picard's body contained the means to fully weaponize it, as they were unable to do so with the other experiments. After all, they could have been trying to do this for so long and finally found their success in Picard, but didn't realize what they had until after they had lost him.

Trip sucked, Malcom sucked pretty much the whole cast sucked aside from Archer and Flox. None were as bad as Burnam though. The problem with discovery was the writing sucked they tried to retcon established and well liked lore. Both shows did it, std did it with the Klingons and control and enterprise did it with the Xindi and the homesfront arc. The only up enterprise had over discovery was there was no woke politics and social issues being injected into the show which is a pretty big deal.

@@Bitchslapper316 I absolutely HATE the diseased STD, but I pretty much agree with your 2nd and 3rd (in particular) paragraphs. Enterprise was such a wasted opportunity. They should have completely skipped the Xindi crap and went straight for the Earth/Romulan War which was already canon and a far more interesting story as it dealt specifically with the creation of the Federation which was basically what Enterprise was supposed to be about. Instead they had to squeeze it into a hastily done final episode where they sped things up and skipped years of events just to get to where they had been aiming. They just let themselves get distracted and blown off course by some writer/producer vanity project that turned out lame anyway. STD was always a bloated puss filled disease ridden piece of crap. From the stupid Klingon re-design to the Woke filled moronic writing and attempted reboot of the Star Trek universe. Until this last season, Picard was little better. I haven't watched either show, but I've seen enough clips and articles about them to know how I felt about them. I love Star Trek as a franchise, so it's not like I WANTED to hate these shows. I do love TOS, and TNG era Trek, especially DS9. I weep for the tragic loss of what could have been good entertainment with well told cohesive storytelling. Instead, a bunch of Woke zealots took control with no care about the material itself and used it to push their own visions and politics at the expense of the story itself. So of course we got diseased crap like STD (the irony is happily noted).

I’ll nitpick. 1) without Borg cybernetic implants and a local external power source all that computation and signal processing would drain a biological creature of energy rather quickly, 2) why do the Borg need Picard or his body or his offspring to achieve this plan? Since presumably they can create a better Locutus using any human (or Federation species) and have each generation procreate repeatedly with Federation officials and Starfleet officers/cadets? 3) Why did they require changelings to modify the transporters when they could have simply quietly taken control of the shipyards at Utopia Planetia and the Daystrom Institute itself?

This completely retcons everything we've been told in the past about the transporter process. If you look in TNG Technical Manual by Michael Okuda, and any of dialogue from the series where Geordi or O'Brien discuss the transporter process in detail, it is stated that the transporter system stores and then re-materializes your pattern EXCACTLY as it was - down to every last atom. But now, according to what Data stated in the latest episode, that is not the case. The process now uses building blocks based upon each species biology, and it was those building blocks that the Borg modified with Picard's modified DNA. It makes for a cool episode, but did anyone on the writing or production staff consider that they were retconning the transporters throughout ST cannon?

When you take apart a person atom by atom, it takes a lot of data to store each person individually, remember, the computer is the thing remembering how people go back together with the correct quantum reconstruction and the way the energy needs to go in order to put them back how they were. But anyway, to take up less space you store pattern templates for things that all people have, like base codes for DNA, which pretty much everyone has the same to 99.9 percent difference of each other. The changling went in and changed that template, making it so borg DNA would get instituted along with the regular DNA everyone shares

Borg Queens seem to arise and disappear only to rise again rather oddly. Fundamentally, you would THINK there could only ever be just ONE of them (at a time, and they seem to be able to live just about forever unless bodily destroyed somehow). PICARD Season 2, however, seems to show that a Borg Queen isn't just an individual with a body who can be killed, but is a self-regenerating FUNCTION of the Borg nanite technology which just 'grows a new one back' using the next available body (Agnes, in that case). All of this also makes you wonder how there can be a Jurati Borg Queen and a separate Season 3 Borg Queen both in existence at the same time. Wouldn't they be in conflict/competition with each other for who 'rules the Borg roost?' And wouldn't two different/separately-ruled Borg collectives/factions create a house unworkably divided against itself? Some part of me wonders if Jack's character arc--as the obvious 'wild card' in all of this--won't be resolved by him prevailing over one or both Borg queens and as a TRANSMITTER becoming the first Federation-friendly Borg KING--? If so, then the Episode 10 title "The Last Generation" might refer to the Borg rather than to the TNG crew. Perhaps Jack would cause that to happen by summarily de-assimilating every last Borg drone everywhere, thus ending their enslavement and existence as Borg forever.

It doesn't really connect though. The only thing they have in common is a "virus" gradually spreading through the Federation, but at no point in the original series do they indicate it was always her intention to use Picard or his DNA this way. If it was then why did it take so long? He was in Starfleet for decades after Best of Both Worlds. Don't tell me she was waiting for Section 31 to conveniently create the perfect Changelings for her. Don't tell me she was waiting for Picard to have a child she could use. If that's what she was waiting for, then why not just clone him? She has his DNA. If Picard was that important to this plan, then why did she reject Picard in favor of Data in First Contact? She told Seven she intended to detonate a bomb in Earth's atmosphere, not all this convoluted BS.

The plan may have adapted and changed over the years as Starfeet made their changes. And the naturally occurring DNA in Jack may have been a better point that the artificially modified DBA in Picard. And as for the bomb, after Seven was disconnected, it was likely the queen did not trust her but sought to use her. Gave her enough of a plan to see if she could get the work all while hiding enough that if Janeway really did fully pull Seven back from the collective, she could still get what she needed without the enemy knowing the full plan. As for the Changlings, it is likely their adaptive nature would have made assimilation impossible for the Borg, but hey, they have a common enemy in Starfleet.

To be fair, there's lot of plot in the whole Star Trek Franchice that doesn't make any sense or can be just out of the writer's whim. For example, in the original, Spock never mentioned he has a brother in the series nor any sort of hints where given. Then fast forward to Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Sybok pop-out of nowhere and his spock's half elder brother. As much as I don't like Discovery, I accepted the plot of Spock having a Half sister since it is something that came out of the franchise holder and has been made canon - same as me accepting Sybok, even though both situation irks me to a point. As for the plot on Picard S3 and this clip from voyager. It may not have been said in the original but it does tie-up some ends on the Picard and Borg narrative. Picard having the borg adaptation being undetectable makes sense since in all of those who have been "Cured" his the one supposedly completely turned back to a human without any Borg implants - yet he can still hear them. The 2nd one is the clip here which is from the episode "Dark Frontier". 7 of 9 rejected what the borg queen wanted for her to do and a whole lot of things happened - giving the so called virus an open ending plot hole, that if a writer is smart enough can use this instance to justify the fact that the virus was still there - but given the circumstances and the Borg's experiences with humans, they might have used that opportunity to modify their strategy. Granted, there's no indication that the whole thing should be connected to Picard's condition, but, there's also no indication that it isn't. In the end, what the writers did was actually sound.

I really hope it ends on a cliffhanger, the borg deserves a 2 parter season finale

The show runner said the finale is going to be a movie, an hour and thirty minutes. They were giving out some imax tickets for people to go watch it in the theater.

The borg reveal was honestly pretty disappointing. I'm tired of the borg, it's always the borg. The changelings being involved breathed fresh air into the story, but that WHOLE PLOT THREAD has been unceremoniously DUMPED.

changelings tie into DS9 as does the Pah-Wraith storyline. Borg ties into TNG/Picard.

And there are considerably less risky and more sensible ways for a bunch of changelings to destroy the Federation than allying with the Borg.

I know a lot of people love Picard season 3, and while I think it's a big improvement over what we got so far, I am not impressed with yet another "Borg trying to assimilate Earth" storyline. It's been done to death, and the last season wrapped it up with Juratti becoming queen. I don't see why they went back to it, 2 seasons in a row. If what happened in season 2 with the Borg amounted to nothing (according to Captain Shaw) ,then why should we take this encounter more serious than the last?

Exactly. Voyagers Equinox episode (in the video) was just terrible. On the other hand Voyager's Survival Instinct was great. It was a story where Seven of nine remembered her time when she was with a bunch of Nines on a planet, and they slowly regained their humanity. There's so many great Borg episodes out there, like I, Borg.

Yep it's not original like: The Daleks, The Master, The Cybermen for 60 years. How many Death Stars and Death Star Planet batteries were built over almost 50 years? Always with the Cylons!!!!! The Shadows have gone but their minions remain. ANOTHER DAMNED MONOLITH!!! Pulp SF franchises ALL use recurring galactic threats over and over again after 1968. At least TOS found a new threat every week, then moved on forgetting about it.

Explains why Vaddick killed the Vulcan chick in the first place it was always my intention to get rid of her because frankly she doesn't age the way human so she will either be too young or too old for it to be effective and then there is the architecture in her own brain will also prevent it from being effective because of her age again, why she got bumped off...
