Salt in vinegar has no reaction. The purpose of the salt is to use it as an abrasive. You immediately diluted it 🤣

I just ove how people think using a wadded ball of anything is the answer. The stamped impression are meant to stay. If you must clean them out --use a brass tooth brush or hard nylon tooth brush when wet using a fine rubbing compound. Only after that. Like a sanding block- which does not go into the surface but across it. use a flat fine polishing stone like one uses for a chisel or knife. Of course all this detail is only if you really give a crap, and won't be a gnarly junk yard mechanic.
